KUTTAWA -- Alta M. Thomason, 90, of Kuttawa died there Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at Rivers Bend Retirement Community. She had worked as a factory worker and was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Jimmy Swift.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation: After 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Nola Mae Bivens Schaber

Nola Mae Bivens Schaber, 96, of Leisure Years Nursing Home, formerly of Roosevelt House II, died at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born July 30, 1908, in McLean County to Noah Lee Bivens and Rebecca Vanover Bivens. She was a homemaker and a member of RSVP, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Goel Chapter No. 104 Order of the Eastern Star and was a 1926 graduate of Calhoun High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Schaber on July 25, 1983; and two sons, Glenn Schaber in 1972 and James Edward Schlomer on Oct. 8, 2004.

Survivors include a son, Joe Schaber and his wife Julie of Owensboro; a daughter, Shirley Gilmore and her husband Mike of Philpot; a daughter-in-law, Luvern Schlomer of Kissimmee, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Stone officiating. Burial will be in Calhoun cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Eastern Star Service will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 5664 Highway 56, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Charles E. Ralph

Charles E. Ralph, 74, of 3602 Hawthorne Drive, Owensboro, passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Whitesville to the late Henry C. and Lula Ward Ralph. He was retired after 22 1/2 years at Commonwealth Aluminum. He was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus No. 817, the Seera Club and enjoyed camping. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorena Smith Ralph in 1983.

Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Geraldine Ralph; his daughter, Carol Nesmith of Owensboro; his son and his wife, Charles E. and Coletta Ralph Jr. of Georgetown; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with burial following in St. Mary of the Woods cemetery in Whitesville. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home. Prayers will be at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Blessed Mother Catholic Church Building Fund, 601 E. 23rd St., Owensboro, KY 42303.

James Carl 'Jim' Williams

BEAVER DAM -- James Carl "Jim" Williams, 67, of Echols died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at University of Louisville Hospital. He was born Aug. 27, 1937, in Ohio County to the late James E. Williams and Della Jones. He retired as a coal miner from Canyon Coal Co. in 1994 and had previously worked for Peabody Coal Co. Sinclair Strip Mine. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Nathana Hines "Cookie" Williams of Echols; two sons, Carl Williams of Echols and Tommy Williams of Mount Carmel, Ill.; two daughters, Dianne King of Echols and Georgina Dockery of Echols; a sister, Faye Baggarly of Echols; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with the Rev. Darrel Belcher and the Rev. Jeff Evans officiating. Burial will be in Pond Run cemetery in Echols. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at William L. Danks Funeral Home.

Sharon Faye Morris
11/16/2004

Sharon Faye Morris, 54, of 2743 Wimsatt Court, Owensboro died at 4:53 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at her home. She was born April 10, 1950, in Lewis County to James Edward Johnson and Betty Lou Lewis Johnson and was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed gardening, cooking and traveling.

Survivors include her husband of 30 years, James Edwin Morris; a son, James Edward Morris at home; a daughter, Angelene Davis of Nashville; grandchildren, Morgan Davis, Sara Davis and Kayleigh Davis; and a brother, James Robert Johnson of Lexington.

Services are at noon Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Craig Bratcher officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Leona W. 'Momma Jo' Moore
11/16/2004

GREENVILLE -- Leona W. "Momma Jo" Moore, of 109 Walnut St., Greenville died at 8:05 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was born in Muhlenberg County and was a bookkeeper at Dillingham, Richie & Petrie, Attorneys at Law in Elkton. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Franklin. She was past president of the Kentucky Association of Rebekah Assemblies and also past president of the International Association of Rebekah Assemblies.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Walker of Greenville; a son, Ken Dillingham of Elkton; a daughter, Ann Martin of Franklin; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; stepsons, Jimmy Walker of Los Angeles and Tommy Walker of Cazanovia, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Becker Carter of Fairfield, Ill.; seven stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. W.R. Cook officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be after 4:30 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City.

Earl Jenkins

CENTRAL CITY -- Earl Jenkins, 79, of 281 Segars Road, Central City died at 8:22 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born May 23, 1925, in Muhlenberg County and was a retired coal miner. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Oak Park, Mich., and was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the LSM 23.

Survivors include his wife, Uneeda Bowen Jenkins; a son, Earl Lee and Carrie Jenkins of Shelby Township, Mich.; a daughter, Jeannie and Dave Pepperell of New Holland, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Kim, Khris and Michele, Kurt and Nicole, Kyle, Kasey, Jesse, Rachel, Katie and James Earl; and a sister, Annie and Raymond Earl Cates of Central City.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Dave Pepperell officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Nelson Creek Fire Department, c/o Trent Peveler, 758 State Route 1379, Central City, KY 42330.

Evelyn Lois Smith Ontiveros

MOTT, N.D. -- Our beloved mother, Evelyn Lois (Smith) Ontiveros, passed this life on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at the age of 82 at Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Mott.

Evelyn was born to Alanzo and Cora Sandefur in Cromwell on Nov. 5, 1921, and grew up in Cromwell, Hartford and Beaver Dam. She married Charles Juniss "June" Smith in 1936. They lived in Newman where they raised their five children.

After June's passing, she moved her family to Owensboro where she became a cosmetologist supporting her children. She was well-known in her field and was often sought after to speak at conventions, seminars and high schools. She owned the Venus di Milo Beauty Salon in Owensboro.

She was the church organist/pianist most of her adult life. She had a beautiful soprano voice and entertained her children by whistling like a bird.

In the '60s they moved to Anaheim, Calif., for a few years, and later moved to San Antonio and worked in offices of Joske's department store for many years.

Evelyn moved to Casper, Wyo., in the '80s to be near her children, later moving to the nursing home in Mott in July 1999 to be near her daughters.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, June; mother-in-law, Sarah Smith; father-in-law, Marshall Smith; two brothers; and three sisters. Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Sally (Babe) Werre of Elgin, N.D., Lynda (Eddie-deceased) Stitt of Elgin; three sons, Johnny Smith of Elgin, Charles (Virginia) Smith of Kerrville, Texas, and Allen (Jean) Smith of Madisonville; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Mother was and is dearly loved and will be sorely missed, but we know she's with the Lord in peace and happiness.

Eugene M. 'Hank' Greenwell

Eugene M. "Hank" Greenwell, passed away of congestive heart failure and diabetes on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Whiting, Ind., on July 3, 1928, and was raised in Curdsville and resided at 837 Florence Court, Owensboro.

Hank was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. He retired from the United States Postal Service and was active in the American Postal Workers Union and headed other numerous offices including state president and vice president of the AFL-CIO Workers Union. He also served the Owensboro Federal Credit Union as president of the Board of Directors.

Hank was a devoted "Yellow Dog" member of the Democratic Party and participated in voter registration both locally and statewide. He was especially proud of receiving the Owensboro-Daviess Co. "Golden Rooster Award" on Oct. 4, 1997.

Hank was an avid golfer "in his day" and worked at Hillcrest Golf Course. He gave golf lessons for the City Parks Department and was especially interested in "Junior Golf." He was always happy to share his "expertise" with his friends (Smile). He was a loyal "die-hard" University of Louisville Cardinal fan. He was born to the late Clement and M. Elsie O'Bryan Greenwell. Also preceding him in death was his son, Julius E. Greenwell and his daughter, Sandra Cornelius, and a brother, William E. "Bill" Otto of Washington state.

He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Sue Graham Greenwell; his son, Michael Clement Greenwell of Dallas; daughter, Terry Thompson of Prospect; proud grandsons, Julius Eugene "Jay" Greenwell Jr. of Haubstadt, Ind., and Jonathan Ryan Greenwell of Owensboro; and an aunt, Sister Mary Clement of Maple Mount; and brothers and sisters, Mary E. "Toots" Hefron of Newburyport, Mass., Rita Kinney Ridgway of Nicholasville, Joseph Greenwell of Owensboro, "Tink" Greenwell of Frankfort, Claudia Myles Thurman of Sonora and L. "Bucky" Greenwell of Utica. Also recognized lovingly are nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation. Private family services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home and will be officiated by Father Freddie Byrd.

In honor of Hank's wishes, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to "The Healing Place", Attn: Becky of Funds Development, 1020 Market St., Louisville, KY 40202, Hospice, c/o V.A. Medical Center, Attn: Grace Dunlop, 800 Zorn Ave., Louisville, KY 40202, or Blessed Mother Catholic Church, 601 E. 23rd, Owensboro, KY 42303.

Following the services, there will be a "CELEBRATION OF LIFE" for family and friends at the beautiful Family Life Resource Center located at Blessed Mother Church.
