Lena Bethel Jolly, 77, of 1752 Mohawk Drive, Owensboro, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. The Muhlenberg County native was a member of Crosspointe Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with family. Her husband, Douglas L. Jolly, died April 8, 1981.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Hawley of Lachine, Mich., and Kerri Nance of Frankfort; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Boyce Bethel of Owensboro.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Ethelena "Polly" W. Holbrook, 70, of Owensboro died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Daviess County native was a member of St. Paul AME Church in Owensboro. She enjoyed crafts, sewing and spending time with family.
Survivors include her husband, Otha Holbrook; two sons, Michael Chilton of Owensboro and James Richard Chilton of Napia, Idaho; two stepdaughters, Carol Hatchett and Monique Moorman, both of Owensboro; six grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Wimsatt of Clarksville, Tenn.; a sister, Mammie Wallace of Louisville; several nephews and nieces; and a cousin.
Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul AME Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. McFarland's Funeral Home in Owensboro is handling arrangements.
Zelma Glasscock Stone

Zelma Glasscock Stone, 91, formerly of the Roosevelt House, Owensboro, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Hermitage Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. The Breckinridge County native was a housewife and a Methodist. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Stone; and three daughters, Helen Glasscock, Elnora Ashcraft and Norma Basham.
Survivors include two sons, C.L. Glasscock of Taylorsville and Leroy Glasscock of Owensboro; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Edna Haire and Cova Smith, both of Illinois.
Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial will be in Ivy Hill cemetery in Hardinsburg. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Glenn Smith, 86, of Owensboro died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Oklahoma native retired from National Molasses as an engineer, was a member of Southeast Baptist Church and enjoyed model planes and sports.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Lorene Stallings Smith; three sons, the Rev. Randy Stallings of Owensboro, Joey Stallings of Lewisport and David Stallings of Fruitland, Idaho; seven daughters, Sharon Myers of Beaverton, Ore., Judi Whitney and Linda McMahan, both of Owensboro, Janet Rotharmel of California, Maria Majors of Louisville, Paula Cambron of Chandler, Ariz., and Mary Jane May of Aloha, Ore.; 32 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is after noon Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Southeast Baptist Church Building Fund.

TROY, Ind. - Gerald W. "Jerry" Foster, 52, of Troy died Sunday, April 14, 2002. The Perry County, Ind., native was a 1968 graduate of Perry Central High School, a truck driver and a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed Indiana University basketball, farming and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Jeremy Foster of Tennyson, Ind.; a daughter, Jaime Morrison of Dale, Ind.; four grandchildren; two brothers, Maurice Foster of Tell City, Ind., and Dolph L. Foster Jr. of St. Meinrad, Ind.; and three sisters, Charlotte Arnold of Tell City, Merilyn Leinenbach of Troy and Carol Joos of Boston.
Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Isidore Church in Bristow, Ind. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City. Prayers will be said today at the funeral home. The Rev. Leonard Arcilesi

The Rev. Leonard Arcilesi, 75, a native of Louisville and priest of the Diocese of Owensboro, died Friday, April 23, 2004, at his home. His parents, Frank and Hazel Arcilesi and his only sibling, Vita Mae Schall-Miller, preceded him in death. He was the pastor of St. Martin Catholic Church in Owensboro, former pastor of St. William and St. Lawrence parishes in Daviess County and St. Stephen Church in Cadiz and the founding parish of St. Michael Church in Fort Campbell-Oakgrove. He was associate pastor of St. Pius X and St. Mary of the Woods in Daviess County. Father Arcilesi was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Owensboro on May 27, 1989, after an internship at St. Anthony in Peonia. He is recognized as a builder and renovator, having served more than 14 years on the Diocesan Building Committee.
A graduate of Bellarmine College in Louisville, Father Arcilesi received graduate degrees in education from the University of Cincinnati and St. Mary Seminary. He did post-graduate work at Purdue University, the University of Illinois, DePaul University, the University of New York and Georgetown University. He was a world traveler and student of the arts - a true renaissance person. He was involved in construction, building design, landscaping and planning.
A Kentucky Colonel and former teacher union leader, he served as president of his local in Cincinnati and was elected president of the Ohio Education Association. He was a high school teacher and administrator in the Cincinnati Public Schools. He also taught two years at Louisville's Manual High, was chief negotiator of the first master agreement contract in the social sciences, co-authored a textbook on the teaching of high school economics and served a year as a counselor in the Army Dependent Schools in Germany. As an educator, his main focus was on genuine learning and preparation for life skills. As an administrator, he stressed the improvement of teacher classroom techniques and increasing teacher professional development. As a leader in the teacher unions, he worked for improvement of teacher salaries and working conditions. He promoted scholarships for deserving students and in promoting vocational education.
He is survived by his aunt, Maryann D'Angelo of Detroit; two nephews, Fred and Frank Schall; three nieces, Deborah D'Angelo (Leonard), Joan Marie Thorpe and Lisa (Timothy) Stinson; eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and many devoted friends.
Funeral services in Owensboro are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at St. Martin Catholic Church. Visitation will be at the church from noon until 8 p.m. on Monday and after 9 a.m. on Tuesday. A prayer vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday. Glenn Funeral Home is handling arrangements in Owensboro.
In Louisville, visitation will be at Bosse Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. EDT on Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday. There will be a vigil service at the funeral home at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and a prayer service at 11 a.m. Wednesday followed by burial in St. Michael cemetery.

CENTRAL CITY - Joan Ann Garrett, 58, of 712 Morehead St., Central City died at 11:46 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born Feb. 21, 1946, in Muhlenberg County. She was a homemaker and a member of Woodson Baptist Church in Powderly. She was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Garrett.
Survivors include her husband, Jewell Garrett of Central City; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Jessica Garrett of Central City; a granddaughter, Kayla Sigers of Central City; three brothers, Ronnie Pointer of Moorman, Bubby Pointer of Central City and Lewis Gene Pointer of Powderly; and two sisters, Betty June Dunn of Madisonville and Norma Jean Taylor of Jeffersonville, Ind.

SACRAMENTO - James "Darrell" Stewart, 60, of Sacramento died Thursday, April 29, 2004, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. He was a retired police officer from the McLean County Police Department and a member of Fairview Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Bremen.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Stewart; three sons, Jamie Stewart, Michael Stewart and Darrin Stewart; a daughter, Mary Revlett; a brother, Harold Stewart; and two sisters, Flo Heltsley and Betty Monoghan.

SACRAMENTO - Phyllis Lucille Von Roenn, 83, of 1505 Lynn City Road, Sacramento, died Friday, April 30, 2004, at 9:50 a.m. at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was born in Four Lakes, Wash., on Aug. 19, 1920, and was a homemaker and U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Survivors include two sons, William Henry (Jane) Von Roenn of Sacramento and Frank John Von Roenn of San Diego; two grandchildren, William Von Roenn and John Von Roenn, both of Sacramento; and a sister, Virginia Fatcher of Phoenix.

GREENVILLE - Mary Lois Jarvis, 78, of 2361 Highway 601, Greenville, died at 1:36 p.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was born Feb. 2, 1926, in Muhlenberg County and was a homemaker and member of New Cypress Baptist Church.
Survivors include six sons and daughters-in-law, William and Phyllis Jarvis, Jimmy and Freda Jarvis and Richard and Kim Jarvis, all of Greenville, Jesse and Vickie Jarvis of Owensboro, Mitchell and Judy Jarvis of Greenville and Michael and Kathy Jarvis of Graham; three daughters, Joyce and Donnie Hope and Carolyn Hunt, all of Greenville, and Rosemary and Richard Buck of Beechmont; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry Vincent of Greenville; and a sister, Opal Camplin of Morgantown. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jarvis; a grandchild, Wendy Beth Jarvis; a sister, Elizabeth Ray; and three brothers, Charlie Vincent, Robert Vincent and Jewel Vincent.
