HAWESVILLE - Ben E. DeJarnette, 104, of Hawesville died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Hancock County native was a member of Mount Eden Baptist Church, taught Sunday school for 35 years and was a deacon for 60 years. He was a member of Forrest's Orphans Camp 1744 Sons of Confederate Veterans, a son of a Confederate soldier and a former member of Hancock County Fair Board. His wife, Geneva DeJarnette, died in 1994.
Survivors include a son, Allen E. DeJarnette of Hawesville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Eden Baptist Church near Hawesville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is after 3 p.m. today and until 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Hawesville.
Polly Walker Wright

BEECH GROVE - Polly Walker Wright, 87, of Beech Grove died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at Colonial Terrace Nursing Home in Sebree. The McLean County native was a homemaker and member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church in McLean County. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, quilting and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold V. Wright, on Jan. 29, 1977; and a son, Robert Gene Wright, on Nov. 3, 1932.
Survivors include a daughter, Norma Reynolds of Beech Grove; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in Bethel cemetery in Beech Grove. Martha Lee Nevitt Tucker

Martha Lee Nevitt Tucker, 83, of 2920 Yale Place, Owensboro, formerly of Calhoun, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The McLean County native retired from McLean County Hospital after 27 years. She was a member of Calhoun Baptist Church and attended Hopewell Baptist Church in Philpot. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed quilting, bus trips with friends, and family. Her husband, Edgar Tucker, died Oct. 13, 1979.
Survivors include two sons, Eddie A. Tucker of Philpot and Freddie M. Tucker of Henderson; three daughters, Ann Caraway of Calhoun and Donna Bennett and Sue Nalley, both of Owensboro; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a half sister, Vonda Howard of Calhoun.
Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in Calhoun cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. BEAVER DAM - Charles W. Jones, 70, of Beaver Dam died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at his home. The McCrory, Ark., native retired from Electro-Motors, a division of General Motors in Chicago, as a welder, was a self-employed farmer and attended Mount Zion Baptist Church in Ohio County.
Survivors include his wife, Laverne Book Jones; three sons, Charles E. Jones and Dennis Jones, both of Beaver Dam, and Robert W. Jones of Lakeville, Ohio; a daughter, Sheryl Maldenado of Hartford; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry Jones of McCrory and Bill Jones of Hammond, Ind.; and two sisters, Wanda Brown and Charlotte Disney, both of Hammond.
Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Janice Clayton Smith

Janice Clayton Smith, 64, of 2412 State Route 1554, Owensboro, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at her home. The Daviess County native was a bus driver for Daviess County Schools. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Altar Society, Army of Mary, Right to Life and was a choir conductor. She enjoyed family time, Christmas caroling, writing poems and barbecues.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, James A. Smith; two sons, James A. Smith Jr. of Jackson, Tenn., and Joseph B. Smith of Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Jena Marie Kennedy and Jacquelyn Ann Glenn, both of Nicholasville; nine grandchildren; four brothers, Bob Clayton, John Clayton and Joe Bill Clayton, all of Owensboro, and Jimmy Clayton of Ashbyburg; and four sisters, Jean Abell, Joan Payne, Joyce Willis and Judy Grant, all of Owensboro.
Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. HARTFORD - Roger D. Daugherty, 49, of Owensboro, formerly of Hartford, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Ohio County native was a Baptist.
Survivors include five sisters, Joyce Roach of Fordsville, Diane Casey and Patricia Bishop, both of Hartford, Nancy Daniel of Lake Village, Ind., and Evelyn Phelps of Calhoun; and several nephews and nieces.

BEECHMONT - Derrick Lane Buchanan, 31, of Beechmont died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, in Fairfield, Ohio. The Muhlenberg County native was an air mechanic in the Marine Corps.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Billy and Pam Buchanan of Beechmont; his mother and stepfather, Donna and Eddie Sumner of Greenville; his grandparents, Donald and Eva Lee Carver of Greenville; a half brother, Matt Buchanan of Providence; a sister, Jenni Shemwell of Greenville; two stepsisters, Ashley Reynolds of Beechmont and Karla Pointer of Bremen; and a niece.

CALHOUN - Erica Lynn St.Clair Humphrey, 24, of Calhoun died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. The Calhoun native was a secretary at McLean County Board of Education Office in Calhoun, a member of Calhoun United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time with her family and children.
Survivors include her husband of five years, Ryan Humphrey; three daughters, Johnna Humphrey, Ivy Humphrey and Julia Humphrey, all at home; her parents, the Rev. Tony and Susie St.Clair of Calhoun; her paternal grandparents, L.J. and Bessie St.Clair of Hartford; and her maternal grandparents, Ted and Bea Dame of Calhoun.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in Calhoun cemetery. Visitation is after 3 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. BEAVER DAM - Edna Lee Taylor, 84, of Beaver Dam died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. The Butler County native was a housewife and member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Beaver Dam. Her husband, Albert W. "Jack" Taylor, died Nov. 2, 1967.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Mattingly of Hardinsburg, Ind.; three grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Phelps of Beaver Dam; and several nephews and nieces.

HORSE BRANCH - Sophia Beatty Sandefur, 86, of Horse Branch died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. The Grayson County native was a homemaker, operated Sandefur's Grocery with her late husband and was a member of Horse Branch Christian Church. Her husband, Pirtle B. Sandefur, died Sept. 1, 2001.
Survivors include three sons, W.H. Sandefur and Danny Sandefur, both of Paducah, and Sam Sandefur of Horse Branch; two daughters, Novella Burdin and Mary Sue Renfrow, both of Horse Branch; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Milton "Bud" Beatty of Rosine and Wavy Curtis Beatty of Sulphur; and two sisters, Elda Embry of Beaver Dam and Maxine Kuykendall of Dundee.
