CLOVERPORT -- Hazel Powers, 84, of Cloverport died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. The McQuady native was a member of Cloverport Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Edna Claycomb of Cloverport; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Cloverport Baptist Church. Burial will be in Cloverport cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Wallace Funeral Home in Cloverport.
Carl E. Whitmer

BREMEN -- Carl E. Whitmer, 74, of Bremen died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at Spark Nursing Center in Central City. The Muhlenberg County native was a saw mill worker. He was preceded in death by a son, Tony Whitmer.
Survivors include three sons, Jeff Whitmer of Bremen, Greg Whitmer of Central City and Wayne Whitmer of St. Charles, Ill.; two daughters, Sandra Wilson of Central City and Tabitha Hester of Beaver Dam; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services are at 10 a.m. Friday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Wilcox cemetery near Central City. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Leland S. Highman Sr.

EVANSVILLE -- Leland S. Highman Sr., 82, of Evansville died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at his home. The Tell City, Ind., native retired from Whirlpool after 33 years and was a Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He served in New Guinea and Australia and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He enjoyed gardening, walking in the woods with his dogs, smoking his pipe and talking on citizens band radio.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Cecilia E. Stallings Highman; two sons, Leland S. Highman Jr. and Randall H. Highman, both of Evansville; a grandson; a granddaughter; and a brother, Lester Hershel Highman of Evansville.
Services are at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ziemer East Chapel Funeral Home in Evansville and at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Evansville. Burial will be in Park Lawn cemetery in Evansville. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Good Shepherd Catholic Church or Visiting Nurses Association Hospice.
Earl Gardner Pyle

Earl Gardner Pyle, 76, of 8349 U.S. 60 West, Owensboro, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001. He retired from the Navy as a commander and was a retired high school principal. He was a Presbyterian, a member of the No-Name Club and enjoyed collecting coins.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, June Pyle; a son, Cameron E. Pyle of Owensboro; two grandsons; three nephews; and four nieces.
Memorial services are pending. The body was cremated. Baldwin-Fairchild Cemeteries & Funeral Homes, Inc. in Orlando, Fla., was in charge of arrangements.
Geneva Pearl Embry

Geneva Pearl Embry, 88, of 3030 Daviess St., Owensboro, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at her son's home in Owensboro. The Butler County native was a member of Community Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, Artie Embry Sr., on Nov. 9, 1988; and three sons, Willie Embry on Dec. 3, 1936, Willard Embry on Nov. 17, 1962, and Boyd Embry on Jan. 19, 2001.
Survivors include a son, Artie Embry Jr. of Owensboro; a daughter, Lucille Goetz of Philpot; eight grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several stepgreat-great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Hobert Smith of Wooster, Ohio; three half-sisters, Eula Willis of Leitchfield, Dorothy Willis of Braidwood, Ill., and Lorene M. Mothey of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Graveside services are at noon Monday at Isaiah Evans cemetery in Butler County. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. HARDINSBURG -- Theresa Henning, 66, of Hardinsburg died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Hospice and Palliative Care of Louisville. The Breckinridge County native was a care giver, member of St. Romuald Catholic Church and a 1955 graduate of Breckinridge County High School.
Survivors include a son, Raymond Bland of Falls of Rough; two daughters, Martha Jean Mattingly of Louisville and Wanda Carwile of McDaniels; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles H. Henning and Earl Henning, both of Hardinsburg, and Bobby Henning of McDaniels; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Romuald Catholic Church in Hardinsburg. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Romuald School.

MCQUADY -- James Henry Bishop, 59, of McQuady died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at his home. The Glen Dean native had worked for Dunaway Timber as a logger.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Howard Bishop; two sons, Jason Howard of Guston and Aaron Matthews of Falls of Rough; three daughters, Sirena Davis of Greensburg, Sissy Ford of Centertown and Nina Valdez of Adaburg; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph Bishop of Glen Dean and Calvin Spaulding of Falls of Rough; and a sister, Betty Phillips of Falls of Rough.

BONNIEVILLE -- Minnie Arnett Smith Williams, 82, of Bonnieville died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Caverna Memorial Hospital in Horse Cave. She was a member of Campground Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 191 in Bonnieville. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William P. Smith and Willis Williams; and a son, Walter Smith.
Survivors include two daughters, Norma Smith of Bonnieville and Wanda Green of Owensboro; two stepsons, Jim Williams of Iowa and Tom Williams of Radcliff; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; and two half brothers, Floyd Crump and Otis Crump, both of Bonnieville.
Services are at 11 a.m. EDT Tuesday at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia. Burial will be in Bonnieville cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. EDT today at the funeral home.

GREENVILLE -- James Oliver Jessup, 73, of Greenville died there Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. The Muhlenberg County native retired from Peabody Coal Co. as a miner. He was a Korean War veteran and was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Woodson Jessup; a son, Alan Bruce Jessup of Blue Springs, Mo.; a daughter, Kimberly Jane Locke of Greenville; three grandchildren; a brother, Pete B. Jessup of Greenville; and two sisters, Martha A. Sweeney and Wanda June Jones, both of Central City.
Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Greens Chapel cemetery in Greenville. Visitation is after 4:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Heart Association.

ROCKPORT, Ind. -- Alice Martine Tharp, 75, of Jeffersonville, Ind., formerly of Rockport, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. She was a homemaker and member Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Sheldon Tharp; a son, Russell I. Tharp of Jeffersonville; three daughters, Mary Annette Bagshaw of Jeffersonville, Karen Lee Tharp of Borden, Ind., and Nancy Faye Byrd of New Albany, Ind.; four grandsons; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marguerite Wilkinson of Rockport.
Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport. Burial will be in Sunset Hill cemetery in Rockport. Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and after 8 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

DICKSON, Tenn. -- Nan Oliphant Barber, 69, of Dickson, formerly of Owensboro, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at National Health Care Center in Dickson. She retired as a school teacher after 38 years of teaching in Dickson, Nashville and Owensboro and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Dickson. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nanette Marksberry.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Don Barber; a son, Donald G. Barber of Dalton, Ga.; three grandchildren; a brother, Edward Oliphant of Vanleer, Tenn.; a sister, Sue Yates of Warren, Mich.; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson. Interment will be in Dickson Union cemetery, Williams Addition. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Willowbrook Hospice, 1335 W. Main St., Suite A, Franklin, TN.

BUFFALO -- Mildred Ilene Macdonald Taylor Wiegand, 74, of Buffalo, formerly of Ohio County, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at her home. The Detroit native retired from Montpelier Glove Factory and was a homemaker. She was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church and South Fork Homemakers. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Owen Iler Taylor in 1976, and John Wiegand on Aug. 26, 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Danny Taylor of Dewitt, Mich., and Feb I. Taylor of Owensboro; three daughters, Geraldine Chinn of Montgomery, Ala., Jacqueline Devore of Buffalo and Imogene Taylor of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jimmy Macdonald of Warren, Mich., Phillip Macdonald of Yale, Mich., and Ross Macdonald of Applegate, Mich.; and two sisters, Rozella Olszewski of Sterling Heights, Mich., and Yvonne Moretto of Titusville, Fla.
Private graveside services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at West Providence Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Beaver Dam.
