GREENVILLE -- Melvia Elaine Ford, 79, of Greenville died there Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. The Herrin, Ill., native was a homemaker and member of Church of God in Central City.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Ford of Central City and Norris Wayne Ford of Dixon; four daughters, Connie Gibson of Old Hickory, Tenn., Judith Dunning of Greenville, Nancy Gail Lott of Dresden, Tenn., and Cindy Ford of Nashville; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul McNeill of Texas; and a sister, Mazo Hale of Texas.
Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

EVANSVILLE -- Lucille Hutchinson, 85, of Evansville died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Holiday Health Care. She was a Kentucky native. Her husband, William Hutchinson, died in December 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Wells of Evansville; three granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph T. Martin of Beaver Dam; two sisters, Ruby Duke of Hartford and Lillian Lewis of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 10 a.m. today at Alexander West Chapel in Evansville. Burial will be in Alexander Memorial Park in Evansville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Alzheimer's Foundation.
Jakob Brettl

Jakob Brettl, 71, of 1232 Woodlawn Drive, Owensboro, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System of heart failure. The Brestowatz Banat, Yugoslavia, native retired from Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. He was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church, American Legion 0009, V.F.W. 696 and Amvets 75. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels and enjoyed gardening, knife sharpening and family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Couch Brettl, in 1983; and four children.
Survivors include three sons, Herbert Brettl of Cincinnati, Michael Brettl of Decatur, Ill., and Brian Brettl of Owensboro; six daughters, Eva Gailliez of Monroe, Mich., Therece Jorgensen of Clovis, Calif., Katrina LeVeck of Warrensburg, Ill., Kimberly Rinehart of Oswego, Ill., Victoria Helms of Richland, Ind., and Beverly Blust of Decatur; 19 grandchildren; and a sister, Maria Sabolowitch of Yaro, British Columbia, Canada.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Brintlinger's Funeral Home in Decatur. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery in Decatur. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro and after noon Monday at Brintlinger's Funeral Home in Decatur. BEAVER DAM -- Lillian Marie Gardner, 74, of Beaver Dam died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. The Muhlenberg County native was a housewife and member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Gardner; two sons, Barry Gardner of Knoxville, Tenn., and Kevin Gardner of Palm Harbor, Fla.; a daughter, Ann Givens of Newton, N.H.; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Dorothy Hildabrand of Fairdale.
Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Lewisburg cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

HARNED -- Roy Franklin Dowell, 79, of Harned died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. The Breckinridge County native was a farmer.
Survivors include a sister, Mary E. Meador of Harned; a nephew; and a niece.
Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial will be in Freedom cemetery in Harned. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

BEAVER DAM -- Dorothy Patton Coots, 73, of Beaver Dam died there Tuesday, May 15, 2001. The Ohio County native retired from Rice Drugs, was a homemaker and a member of Liberty United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Grace Chapter 37 and Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amil Coots on March 29, 1993; and a son, Haynes Patton Wood, on Oct. 17, 1969.
Survivors include a son, Walter "Woody" Wood of Beaver Dam; three daughters, Mary Lee Wood of Honolulu, Jo Anne Wood of Louisville and Janice Snodgrass of Cromwell; a stepson, James Coots of Beaver Dam; a stepdaughter, Kathy Phelps of Utica; 10 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and two brothers, Armit Patton of Beaver Dam and Bethel Patton of Tullahoma, Tenn.

John Rodgers Ashworth, 81, of 3740 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Baskett native retired from Southern Tank Company as a welder and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling and making charcoal drawings.
Survivors include four nephews, including James Lee Ashworth, Eugene Masterson and Ray Masterson, all of Owensboro; and three nieces, Mary Manley of Philpot, and Betty Sowders and Eula May Cooper, both of Owensboro.
Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. OAK CREEK, Wis. -- Anna Faye Thompson Neel, 70 , of Oak Creek died Sunday, May 6, 2001. She was a Sorgho native. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Neel.
Survivors include a son, Donald Neel; two daughters, Mary Ann Lewna and Linda Neel; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, James Thompson; and a sister, Carol Neel.
Services and visitation are private. Inurnment will be in Southern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial cemetery in Union Grove, Wis. Hartson Funeral Home in Hales Corners, Wis., is in charge of arrangements.
James Rudy Carden

James Rudy Carden, 84, of 2885 New Hartford Road, Owensboro, died there Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Wellington Parc. The Ohio County native worked with his father at Rudd Hotel Barber Shop and ran his own barber shop in the 300 block of Frederica Street for many years before retiring. He was a member of King's People Sunday school class at First Baptist Church and was an Army artillery veteran of World War II. His wife, Emmaleen Kelley Carden, died in 1991.
Survivors include a brother, Shirley Carden of Owensboro; a nephew; and four nieces.
Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Kentucky Baptist Childrens Homes.

Marian Chumley Appleby of 2229 Wintergreen Loop North, Owensboro, died there Thursday, May 3, 2001. The McHenry native retired from the Executive Inn Rivermont as a switchboard operator and was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, David Wynn Appleby of Owensboro and Richard Louis "Rick" Appleby of Houston; a daughter, Betty Ann Appleby of Louisville; five grandchildren; and a brother, David Chumley of Camphill, Pa.

CANNELTON, Ind. -- Anelka Lee Anderson Gatto, 73, of Indianapolis died there Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Community Hospital North. The Cannelton native was a secretary for Indianapolis Life Insurance Company. She owned Anelka Antiques at Shadeland Antique Mall and retired in 1999. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and a graduate of Cannelton High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvatore J. Gatto Jr.
Survivors include four sons, Michael J. Gatto, Christopher W. Gatto and Matthew J. Gatto, all of Indianapolis, and John R. Gatto of Cape Coral, Fla.; four daughters, Janice M. Williamson of Indianapolis, Rebecca B. McGrath and Annette M. Wright, both of Greenwood, Ind., and Laura H. Rettig of Castleton, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and a brother, John W. Anderson of Hudson, N.Y.

LOUISVILLE -- Adam Lee Sims, 38, of Louisville died Thursday, May 10, 2001, in Bedford. The Frankfurt, Germany, native was self employed in wallpaper and painting. He was a Christian and 1981 graduate of Daviess County High School.
Survivors include his parents, Gilbert and Mary Ann Sims of Maceo; his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Frances Tyro of Owensboro; his maternal grandmother, Virginia Collins of Owensboro; and a brother, Richard Andrew Sims of Owensboro.
