JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Ervin W. Sauls, 85, of Jacksonville died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001. The Maco, N.C., native served in the Navy in the Pacific theater during World War II. He also served in the Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine.
Survivors include two sons, Harold Sauls and Albert Sauls, both of Jacksonville; a daughter, Jane Sauls Vinelli of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Winifred S. Miller of Utica; and several nephews and nieces.
Graveside services were Jan. 8 at Evergreen cemetery in Jacksonville. Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home in Jacksonville handled arrangements.

BEAVER DAM -- Anthony Gambrel, 81, of Beaver Dam died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Knox County native worked for Peabody Coal Co. at Ken Underground Mine. He was a Baptist and a member of the U.M.W.A. Local 1543.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Mills "Sally" Gambrel; a foster daughter, Janice Manasco of Beaver Dam; two foster grandchildren; a brother, Finley Gambrel of Corbin; a sister, Laura Wagoner of Pineville; a nephew and three nieces; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

EVANSTON, Ind. -- Edward W. Chamberlin Jr., 62, of Evanston died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at St. Mary's Warrick Hospital in Boonville, Ind. The Petersburg, Ind., native was a pot operator for 25 years at Alcoa Warrick Operations. He attended Little Pigeon Baptist Church and was a member of Aluminum Company of America Union.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Hattie Chamberlin; two daughters, Denise Chamberlin of Mariah Hill, Ind., and Debbie Chamberlin of Chandler, Ariz.; three grandchildren; three brothers, Oscar Chamberlin of Paris, Fla., Ray Chamberlin of Chrisney, Ind., and Ralph Kays of Owensboro; and a sister, Judy Bono of Silver Lake, Ind.
Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, Ind. Burial will be in Little Pigeon cemetery near Chrisney. Visitation is from 2 to 7 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Little Pigeon Baptist Church.

TELL CITY, Ind. -- Betty S. Ward, 68, of Tell City died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System of complications from emphysema. The Ohio County native retired from General Electric Co. in Owensboro in 1985 after 34 years and enjoyed crocheting, quilting and fishing.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer J. Ward; a son, Darrel Riley of Tell City; three grandchildren; a brother, Medley Hoover of Centertown; and five sisters, Shirley Bell, Violet Hedges and Naomi Boyken, all of Livermore, Alcyone "Toni" Chinn of Centertown and Delores Halfhill of Evansville.
Services are at 2 p.m. EST Sunday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery in Tell City. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday and after 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Perry County Memorial Hospital.
Virginia Moss 'Ginny' Humphrey Gray

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Virginia Moss "Ginny" Humphrey Gray, 67, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Calhoun, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at her daughter's home. The Owensboro native was a nurse at Blodgett Hospital for 14 years. She was a 1951 graduate of Calhoun High School and a Baptist. She was a volunteer for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the American Cancer Society, enjoyed collecting Victorian era memorabilia and traveling. A daughter, Gina Gray Surline, died Feb. 12, 1992.
Survivors include her husband, Ural R. "Ray" Gray; two daughters, Lana Maksymowski and Dena Oyler, both of Grand Rapids; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services were Jan. 20 at Daylight Ministries in Grand Rapids. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Cancer Society.

Wiley Hulsey, 90, of 5110 Essex Drive, Owensboro, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at his home. The Daviess County native retired from Fleishman's Distillery. He was a member of Hall Street Baptist Church, was a deacon at Delaware Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Florine Jewell Hulsey; a son, William Hulsey of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; a daughter, Bessie Lea Nolan of Owensboro; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Alta Moss and Pauline Faith, both of Owensboro, and Lucile Wahl and Helen Lee Ward, both of Beech Grove.
Services are at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. William A. 'Bill' McSpedden

GREENVILLE -- William A. "Bill" McSpedden, 84, of Greenville died there Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a brief illness. The Nashville native was a veteran of World War II. He was a manager of Palace Theater from 1945 to 1961 and worked for Greenville Fire Department from 1961 to 1979. He retired as a fire chief and was a member of Greenville United Methodist Church and Pond River Masonic Lodge 244, F&AM.
Survivors include his wife, Edna McSpedden; three daughters, Donna Richardson and Helen Chappell, both Greenville, and Bee "Billie Jean" Ewing of Madisonville; four grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Greenville. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Greenville United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Margaret Mays, 85, of Owensboro died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at her home. The Owensboro native was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the senior Bible study group and Nurses Guild. She was a former member of the senior choir and enjoyed gardening and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Mays, on May 5, 1990, and two sons, Robert Kelly in 1996 and Godfrey Kelly in 1997.
Survivors include two sons, David Kelly and Phillip Kelly, both of Owensboro; three daughters, Deborah Hogg, Geneva Tyler and Reva Hanley, all of Owensboro; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Florence Perkins of Cincinnati and Roberta Woodard of Kansas City, Mo.
Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fourth Street Baptist Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. McFarland Funeral Home in Owensboro is handling arrangements.

GRANDVIEW, Ind. -- Charles W. Hughes, 66, of Grandview died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at his home of cancer. The Grandview native was a farmer and a member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Eloise Hughes; two sons, David Hughes of Grandview and Michael Hughes of Lamar, Ind.; three daughters, Carol Champion and Regina Horn, both of Santa Claus, Ind., and Beverly Turner of Grandview; 10 grandchildren; and a sister, LaVerne Williams of Grandview.
Services are at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, Ind. Burial will be in New Hope cemetery in Newtonville, Ind. Mary Ozetta Kessinger, 85, 1751 E. 26th St., Owensboro, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The Daviess County native retired from the bottling department at Glenmore Distillery after 36 years and was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. A son, William Sherman Pickrell, died in 1995.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Gova "Eddie" Kessinger; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph William Montgomery of Whitesville; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at noon Tuesday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

CANNELTON, Ind. -- Alice W. Crowe, 73, of Cannelton died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System from heart failure. The Derby, Ind., native was a homemaker and had worked at Commercial Filters in Tell City, Ind., for seven years. She enjoyed animals, working puzzles and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Curtis Crowe, in 1996; and a daughter, Ida Ruth.
Survivors include a son, Talmadge Tindall of Louisville; a daughter, Mary Kay Young of Cannelton; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services are at 2 p.m. EST today at Huber Funeral Home in Cannelton. Burial will be in New Cliff cemetery in Cannelton. Visitation is after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Heart Association.

BEAVER DAM -- Anna E. "Dolly" Martin, 79, of Beaver Dam died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. The Ohio County native retired from Beaver Dam Deposit Bank and was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Her husband, William Maurice "Mossy" Martin, died June 11, 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Martin Walters of Beaver Dam; a grandchild; and a sister, Bess Caudle of Hopkinsville.
