Elizabeth Pollard Kunau of 2033 Littlewood Drive, Owensboro, died there Tuesday, July 17, 2001. The Ruston, La., native was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Walter Kunau, on Oct. 23, 1971; and two sons; Walter Lawrence Kunau Sr. on Sep. 12, 1990, and James Pollard Kunau on July 5, 1961.

Survivors include six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lillian Erixson of Owensboro.

Services are at 10 a.m. Friday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Joseph Wayne Mayes
(September 26, 1940 - December 19, 2011)

Joseph Wayne Mayes, 71, of Bowling Green, died Monday at his residence. The Bowling Green native was born September 26, 1940, a son of the late Joseph Whalin and Louise Felts Mayes. He was preceded in death by his brother, Delbert Gene Mayes. Mr. Mayes was a graduate of Bowling Green High School and attended Western Kentucky University. He worked in Facility Management at Western Kentucky University for 31 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include four nephews, Greg Mayes of Brandenburg, KY, David Mayes of Owensboro, KY, Delbert Mayes, Jr. of Cheyenne, WY and Danny Mayes of Owensboro, KY; one sister-in-law, Linda Dianne Mayes of Owensboro, KY; six aunts, Nina Shenton, Cyrus Felts, Marie Shew, Elsie Berryhill, Mary Watts and Edith Bessinger; several great nieces, great nephews and cousins.Visitation will be Tuesday, December 27, 2011 from 10:00 am until funeral time at 1:00 pm on Tuesday at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home. Burial in Fairview cemetery.

Robbie Lee Nance Hust
19 July 2001

SLAUGHTERS -- Robbie Lee Nance Hust, 76, of Slaughters, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Senior Citizens Nursing Home in Madisonville from diabetes complications. The Webster County native was a homemaker and member of Slaughters United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Hust; two daughters, Debbie Dunville of Slaughters and Susan Hust of Greenville; a granddaughter; and her mother, Naomi Todd Nance Orsburn of Madisonville.

Services and burial are private. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Tompkins Funeral Homes, Hanson Chapel in Slaughters. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to a favorite charity.

Martha N. Miller
(December 4, 1927 - December 19, 2011)

Mrs. Martha N. Miller, 84, of Bowling Green, died Monday, December 19, 2011 at The Medical Center. She was born on December 4, 1927, to the Late Finis and Gertie Dubree White. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald M. Miller; three brothers, Carl White, Harold White, Ewell White and a sister Refa Fuqua. Mrs. Miller was a Production Assistant at Holley Carburetor and a Building Service Attendant at Western Kentucky University. She was a member of Warren Way Church of God.

Mrs. Miller is survived by two daughters, Kaye Holder and her husband Larry and Phyllis Page both of Bowling Green; two grandchildren, Rob Smith and Angela Jordan; two great grandchildren, Jackson Jordan and Nicholas Jordan; a sister, Ollie Finch and her husband Lloyd; special nephew Jerry Finch and his wife Bertie as well as several other nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 pm to 8:00pm and again on Wednesday from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Bowling Green Gardens.

PLEASANT RIDGE -- Christopher Lynn Boling, 38, of Pleasant Ridge died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was a Daviess County native.

Survivors include his mother, Linda Powell of Pleasant Ridge; grandparents, Ruby and J.L. McKinley and Hazel and Virgil Boling, all of Pleasant Ridge; and a half brother, Franklin D. Powell II of Pleasant Ridge.

Services are at 5 p.m. Saturday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Christopher Lynn Boling Memorial.

Joann Hudson Austin
(September 14, 1919 - December 17, 2011)

Mrs. Joann Hudson Austin, 92, of Bowling Green, died Saturday, December 17 , 2011 at Greenwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family and nursing staff. She was born September 14, 1919 in Lafayette, TN. The daughter of the late Irvin and Ruby Hudson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry F. Austin; brother, James P. Hudson and sister Geralee Runner. Mrs. Austin was a retired nurse and a member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Austin is survived by two sons, Robert Austin (Wanda) and Tom Austin; two grandchildren, Bob Austin (Lynn) and Alisa Justice-Smith (Beecher); four great grandchildren, Scott Justice, Nick Austin, Jeff Austin and Greg Austin and a sister, Willa Harwood all of Bowling Green. Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no services.

Raymond L. 'Doodlebug' Collignon
19 July 2001

LAUREL, Md. -- Raymond L. "Doodlebug" Collignon, 67, of Laurel died Monday, July 16, 2001, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He was a Daviess County native.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Collignon; three sons, Raymond Collignon, Steve Collignon and Kenneth Collignon, all of Laurel; four grandchildren; and his mother, Phyllis Collignon of Owensboro.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Bethany Community Church in Laurel. Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Flecke Funeral Home in Laurel.

Georgia Mirl Clark
19 July 2001

Georgia Mirl Clark, 79, of 2953 McAlister Place, Apt. B, Owensboro, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Knottsville native was a homemaker, member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church and enjoyed walking at the mall and spending time with friends. She was preceded in death by a son, George Mitchell Clark, in 1947; and a daughter, Diana Marie Clark, in 1952.

Survivors include her husband, George H. Clark; six sons, Anthony Wayne Clark, Curtis Ray Clark and James Jerry Clark, all of Owensboro; Charles Don Clark of Lewisport, Dennis Roger Clark of Georgetown and Paul Darriel Clark of Whitesville; 23 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles John Payne of Owensboro; and a sister, Rita Mae Stiff of Owensboro.

Services are at noon Friday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Blessed Mother Catholic Church Parish Center.

Louise Moseley Simpson

Louise Moseley Simpson, 85, of Owensboro died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville. The Owensboro native retired from the Campbell Club as a bookkeeper and was a member of First Christian Church. Her husband, Clifton Simpson, died Jan. 21, 1991.

Survivors include a son, John P. Simpson of Gaithersburg, Md.; a daughter, Anne Hoffman of Prospect; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Ellis Miller
(February 20, 1928 - December 26, 2011)

Ellis E. Miller, 83, of Bowling Green died at 6:55 am, December 26, 2011 at the Medical Center. The Little Muddy Community native of Butler County was born on February 20, 1928 , a son of the late Claude Edward and Dovie Wilson Miller. He is preceded in death by his wife, Velma Christine Fishburn Miller; a son, Leland Miller and a great grandson, D.J. Kirgan. Mr. Miller was a construction worker retired from Scott Murphy Construction. Survivors include two sons, Maurice Miller (Janis) and Danny Miller (Mary); four daughters, Kathy Webb, Angela Bumpus (Larrie), Wanda Denton (John), and Valeria Noghlabadi (Tony); twenty grandchildren twenty-three great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to Highland Baptist Church cemetery Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday , December 28, 2011 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home and again from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday. Willie Jewell Snyder
(March 5, 1929 - December 31, 2011)

Willie Jewell Snyder, 82, of Bowling Green, KY died on Saturday, December 31, 2011 She was born March 5, 1929, a daughter of the late George Edgar and Blanche Walker Violett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Douglas Snyder; one brother, Donald Violett; two sisters, Mary Frances Allen and Lucille Blick and an adopted son, Eddie Galloway. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sisters, Virginia Berendt of Clarkston, MI and Shirley Ann Carter of Albany, GA; a beloved niece and caretaker, Joyce Merklin of Bowling Green and several other nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 am Thursday with burial in Fairview cemetery.

Marcheta Bartlett Blankenship
(September 13, 1951 - December 18, 2011)

Marcheta Bartlett Blankenship, 60 of Bowling Green, died at 9:45 pm, Sunday at her residence. The Bowling Green native was born September 13, 1951, a daughter of the late Robert S. Bartlett and Dorothy R. Pedigo Bartlett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert E. Blankenship. Mrs. Blankenship was a graduate of Bowling Green High School and attended Western Kentucky University. She was the floor supervisor for the Scottsville Road Kroger, #585, for over 28 years. She served on the safety team and culture team for the UFCW and attended the Citizens Police Academy at the State, County and City Levels. She was a member of the Air EVAC and attended Plano Chapel Church. She loved scrapbooking and people and was a big hearted person who never met a stranger. Survivors include her son, Steve Bartlett and his companion, Jaime Shanks of Bowling Green; one step-son, Randy Blankenship; one step-daughter, Andrea Taylor and her husband, Mike of Florida; two sisters, DaWanda Bartlett of Bethpage, Tennessee and Anita Bartlett Bird and her husband, Kenneth of Bowling Green; three grandchildren, Alisa and Hunter Bartlett and their mother Tammy and Jordan Shanks all of Bowling Green; four nieces, Kelli Miles, Cyndi Kolodzik, Erica Bird and Lauren Bird; two nephews, Kenneth Bird, Jr. and his wife, Kim and Eric Bird and his wife, Jennifer, great nieces and nephews and many friends. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm Wednesday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home and again from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Thursday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Fairview cemetery

Dencil Lee Boggess

ELEANOR, W.Va. -- Dencil Lee Boggess, 68, of Eleanor died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Thomas Memorial Hospital in Charleston, W.Va. He retired from Republic Container and was an Army veteran and a Christian. He was preceded in death by two sons, Gary Wayne Boggess and Larry James Boggess; and a daughter, Mary Jean Boggess.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Lee Meadows Boggess; a son, Rick Boggess of Owensboro; three grandsons; his mother, Gay Boggess of Hometown, W.Va.; a brother, Glenn Boggess of Hometown; four sisters, Sissy Anderson and Anna Null, both of Hometown, Sue Buck of Columbus, Ohio, and Diane Mellert of Cross Lanes, W.Va.; and a half brother, Ray Sayre of Hometown.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gatens Funeral Home in Poca, W.Va. Burial will be in Grandview cemetery in Red House, W.Va. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Deacon Robert "Bob" Imel
(September 24, 1940 - December 30, 2011)

U.S. Veteran
Deacon Robert “Bob” Imel, 71, of Bowling Green, died Dec. 30, 2011, at the Hospice Center. He was a native of Urbana, Ohio, and graduated from Urbana High School in 1958. He served 25 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a chief warrant officer W3 in 1987. He served several overseas tours, including Vietnam, Germany and Turkey, as well as a number of state-side assignments. Upon his retirement from the Army, he became vice president and director of fixed operations at Swope Family of Dealerships in Hardin County for 10 years. He was the first executive director of Hardin County Habitat for Humanity. During his tenure with Habitat, he was called to ministry in the Catholic church and ordained a permanent deacon by the Archdiocese of Louisville. He served as a deacon at St. Christopher Catholic Church of Radcliff and later continued his ministry as the deacon of St. Joseph Catholic Church. During his life, he was actively involved in the military, civilian and church community. He was involved in Boy Scouts, Warrant Officers Association, American Red Cross of Louisville, United Way of Central Kentucky, Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Warren County Ministerial Association and a number of other organizations. He was the son of the late Howard and Donna Imel of Urbana, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; a son, Joseph and his wife, Tracy, and grandson, Zach, all of Bowling Green; three daughters, Susan Galvan and her husband, David, and granddaughter, Alexis, all of Hoover, Ala., Michelle Holmes and her husband, John, of Fayetteville, N.C., and Catherine Sanspree and her husband, Brandon, of Bowling Green; a sister, Janet Imel Metherd of Urbana; and two brothers, Charles Imel and Donald Imel and his wife, Janet all of Urbana. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.Prayer Service will be at 7:00 pm Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions of Hospice to Southern Kentucky or St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Reva Nell Howard

SOUTH CARROLTON -- Reva Nell Howard, 67, of South Carrolton died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. The Muhlenberg County native was a homemaker and member of Central City Church of Christ. Her husband, Oscar Howard, died in 1980.

Survivors include three sons, Roger Flener and William Flener, both of Drakesboro, and Bobby Flener of Moorman; three daughters, Ann Mackey of Drakesboro, Debbie Wood of Nashville and Linda Koon of Central City; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her mother, Grace McClure of South Carrolton; a brother, Tommy McClure of Bremen; and two sisters, Carolyn Littlefield of Bremen and Pat McDonald of South Carrolton.

Services are at 1 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Island Methodist cemetery in Island.

Flossie Susan Nelson

BREMEN -- Flossie Susan Nelson, 102, of Bremen died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Columbia Health Care Center in Evansville. The Muhlenberg County native was a homemaker and member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Beverly L. Nelson of Owensboro, James R. Nelson of Evansville and Charles "Preacher" Nelson of Bremen; a daughter, Dorothy Shanks of Evansville; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Crelie Klieman of Boonville, Ind.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Mount Pisgah cemetery in Bremen. Visitation is after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mabel Osborne Jones
(April 23, 1917 - December 31, 2011)

Mabel Osborne Jones, 94, of Bowling Green died at her residence on Saturday, December 31, 2011 The Allen County native was born April 23, 1917, a daughter of the late Andrew Douglas Osborne and Emma Hinton Osborne. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence I. Jones; one sister, Ruth Mathes; three brothers, Elvin, Lucian and Guy Osborne. Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Western Kentucky University where she received her Masters Degree in Education. She taught elementary school for 41 years and taught music. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was active in the senior choir. She was an animal lover, was very outgoing and enjoyed traveling with friends. Mrs. Jones loved to walk, talk, cook and play piano.

She is survived by three sons, Jeffrey Alan Jones (Margot) of Bowling Green, Jerome Paul Jones (Margaret McConnell) of Covington, LA, and James Michael Jones (Cheri) of Louisville; four grandchildren, Joseph and Andrew Jones both of Bowling Green, Greg Jones (Heather) of New Albany, IN and Todd Jones (Erin) of Shelbyville; three great grandchildren, Simon, Lila and Noah Jones; two nephews, D.B. Mathes (Wynella) of Huntsville, AL and Guy Osborne (Sandy) of Shepherdsville, KY. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday, January 3,2012 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 am Wednesday January 4, 2012with burial in Fairview cemetery.

Marshall Gibson, Jr.
(January 16, 1932 - December 28, 2011)

Marshall Gibson, Jr. 79, of Bowling Green died Wednesday at The Hospice Center. The Rocky Hill, native was born January 16, 1932 to the late Marshall Gibson, Sr. and Ruby Sneed Gibson. Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Stewart, a sister, Laverne East, and three brothers, Brooks, Joe and Charles Gibson Mr. Gibson was retired from the State Highway Department and served with the US Air Force during the Korean War. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Fairview cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2011 and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home.

Patricia Shiarella Harris

Patricia Shiarella Harris, 59, of 324 Ford Ave., Owensboro, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Baptist Hospital in Columbia, S.C. The Owensboro native was a member of First Baptist Church and a graduate of University of Kentucky. She received Masters degrees in public health and anthropology from University of South Carolina.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff Harris of Broomfield, Colo., and Tom Harris of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Jane Downey of Columbia, S.C.; six grandchildren; a brother, Nick Shiarella of Owensboro; and a sister, Mary Sachs of Owensboro.

Services are at noon Saturday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Help Office of Owensboro, 1316 W. 4th St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Phil Gensler
(January 17, 1961 - December 15, 2011)

Mr. Phil Gensler, 50, of Rockfield, KY, died Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Hospice of Southern Kentucky after a three and a half year battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease/ALS. He was born on January 17, 1961, in Milwaukee, WI to Richard and Cynthia Mercer Gensler currently of Bowling Green. Mr. Gensler was preceded in death by a daughter, Lindsay Nicole Gensler in 1989 and his grandparents, Arthur and Agnes Mercer. Mr. Gensler was a graduate of Western Kentucky University and employed by Hill's Science Diet from 1997 to 2009 when ALS forced his retirement. Mr. Gensler and his family are also proud to be charter members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Family request expressions of sympathy to be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church Grand Piano Fund, 4754 Smallhouse Road, Bowling Green, KY 42104.

He is survived by his wife, Dana Leigh Gensler of Rockfield; two daughters, Melissa Gensler Keeling (Michael) of Bowling Green and Katie-Rose Gensler of Rockfield; a stepson, Christopher Baker of Memphis, TN; a brother, Michael Gensler (April) of TN and a sister, Linda Gensler Green (Carlthell) of Bowling Green.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 12:00 pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 9:30 am until the Mass begins. Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
