BEECHMONT -- Gilbert Blake Walker, 55, of Beechmont, formerly of Hammond, Ind., died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at his home after a short illness. The Penrod native retired in 2000 as a boiler maker from Union Tank after 30 years and served with the Army in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969.
Survivors include two sons, Roger Walker of Medina, Ohio, and Christopher Walker of Africa; a brother, Larry Walker of Ennis; and five sisters, Margie Walker Belcher of Calvert City, Katherin Brister of Cedar Lake, Ind., Deloris Rhoades of Beechmont, Rebecca Allen of Beech Creek and Lottie Brown of Providence.
Services are at 2 p.m. today at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Union Ridge cemetery near Twin Tunnels. Visitation is after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.

MORGANTOWN -- Ray D. Martin, 86, of Rochester died Monday, July 9, 2001, at his home. The Butler County native was a retired farmer and member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Basham Martin.
Survivors include a son, Norman Ray Martin of Morgantown; five daughters, Janice Dossey and Carolyn Phelps, both of Morgantown, Joy Sheffield of Cromwell, Shirley McGehee of Browder and Charlotte Barrow of Rochester; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Hannah Allen of Ennis and Lora Clay Newton of Morgantown.

MAPLE MOUNT -- Sister Mary Bernice Uhing, 84, of Maple Mount died Friday, July 13, 2001. The Hartington, Neb., native was an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph and was in her 65th year of religious life. She had taught at schools in Earlington, Radcliff, Madisonville, Fredericktown and Louisville and had been principal of Immaculate Conception School in Hawesville. She enjoyed animals, reading, teaching and helping others.
Survivors include two brothers, Cyril Uhring of Blair, Neb., and Hubert Uhing of Hartington; and a sister, Julia Loise of Hartington.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Saint Joseph Chapel in Maple Mount. Burial will be in the convent cemetery in Maple Mount. Visitation is after 4 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Georgia Coleman Logan, 99, of Owensboro died there Friday, July 13, 2001, at Wellington Parc. The Daviess County native was the oldest living member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church. She had taught Sunday school for over 50 years and enjoyed quilting, crafts and flowers. Her husband, Bradley M. Logan, died July 22, 1968.
Survivors include a son, Sam Coleman of Owensboro; a daughter, Myrtie Wilhoyte of Owensboro; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Louise Cooper Snyder, 95, of Owensboro died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The Owensboro native was state president of Kentucky PTA from 1966 to 1969, was past member of National PTA board and served on the Kentucky Committee on Children and Youth. She served on Governor's Safety Committee and Citizen's Health Committee. She was a Kentucky Colonel and member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. Her husband, J. Russel Snyder, died in 1989.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Lett Shaw of Owensboro and Ann Chapman of Woodburn; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. There is no visitation. Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements. CALHOUN -- Sarah Elizabeth "Polly" Ross, 73, of Calhoun died Friday, July 13, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Sacramento native was a homemaker and had worked at General Electric. She was a member of Rumsey United Methodist Church and enjoyed crocheting, cooking, quilting and her grandchildren. Her husband, Billy Douglas Ross, died June 19, 2001.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara McGlothin of Owensboro and Debbie French of Rumsey; and several nephews and nieces.

GREENVILLE -- Lula Marie Bivins, 90, of Greenville died there Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. The Muhlenberg County native was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Bivins; and a son, Paul Ray Bivins.
Survivors include four sons, Glendal Bivins, Freddie Bivins and Donald Bivins, all of Greenville, and Dariel Bivins of Drakesboro; three daughters, Lucille Willis of Elkton, and Linda Shelton and Louise Morris, both of Greenville; 34 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Melvin Dukes of Turlock, Calif.

Jo Tilden "Top" Orendorf
"Top" Orendorf, age 92, of Bowling Green, Ky., died Friday, June 6, 2003, at The Medical Center @ BG in Bowling Green, Ky. He was the widower of Betty Suggs of Morganfield to whom he was married
for sixty-two years, and the father of Betty O. Daniels of New York City, and Washington, CT, and Allison O. Walter of Danville, and Grandfather of Five.
He was born in Lexington, Ky on June 13, 1910, attended Ogden College as a prep school, received a baccalaureate degree from Center College and his law degree from Tulane University. His career covered teaching, the practice of law, management of financial institutions and stock brokerage. He taught law and the Bowling Green Business university and while in the practice of law he collaterally served variously as City Prosecutor, City Solicitor, and Commonwealth Attorney. Still in these years he was a Trustee on the State Employees Retirement Board and Chairman of the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance.
In 1963 he became Chairman of the Board and President of Citizens National Bank where he had served as Director since 1942, Following this retirement in 1975, he became Chairman of the Board and President of First Federal Savings and Loan Association which under his watch became the first mutual financial institution to convert to stock in Kentucky. Following that retirement (although he continued as Chairman of the Board) he became a stockbroker with Hilliard and Lyons in 1983. In 1987 he returned to Harlan and Parker as Of Counsel.
"Top" served on the Board of curators and as a Trustee for Centre College, President of Rotary, and member and Elder of The Presbyterian Church, member of the Son's of the American Revolution, The Board of the Red Cross, the United Givers Fund, Chamber of Commerce and many others. He also enjoyed sixty-five years as a member of the Fortnightly Literary Club, and over seventy years as a very skilled golfer who won several tournaments including the Bowling Green Country Club Championship four times.
Arrangements are being handled by Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home, 901 Fairview Avenue, Bowling Green, Ky., where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2003. Funeral service will be at Fairview cemetery at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2003 , Rev. Richard W. Bridges and Dr. Matthew W. Covington officiating. Interment will be at Fairview cemetery in Bowling Green, Ky.

Betty Jo Tierney "Mamaw" Thompson, 67, of 2614 S. Kingman Loop, Owensboro, died Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Daviess County native was a member of Blessed Sacrament Chapel and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. "Chick" Thompson, on Sept. 3, 1998; and a daughter, Holly Jane Thompson, in 1992.
Survivors include two sons, John D. Thompson Jr. and Michael Alan Thompson, both of Owensboro; a daughter, Cindy Jo Clark of Owensboro; seven grandchildren; and three sisters, Virginia Hawkins, Ruth Conkright and Anna Lee Barr, all of Owensboro.
Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen Cathedral in Owensboro. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Owensboro. Edith Marie Owen Curry
Edith Marie Owen Curry, 92 of Bowling Green died at 6:30 am Monday, June 9, 2003 at The Medical Center @ BG. The Barren County, KY native was a retired teacher having taught in the Barren County School System, T. C. Cherry Elementary School and in the English Department at Western Kentucky University. Mrs. Curry was a graduate of Western Kentucky University and Peabody College in Nashville. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Bowling Green Literary Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac D. and Susan Stella Duncan Owen; her husband, Bronston Loving Curry; a son, Lerond L. Curry; and a daughter, Joan Marie Curry Lively.
She is survived by five grandchildren; Martha Lively McLaughlin of St. Joseph, MO; Luanne Lively Marshall of San Paulo, Brazil; Robert Philip Lively of Lees Summit, MO; Nathan Andrew Curry of Bowling Green; and Hannah Michelle Curry of Atlanta, GA. Six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at Fairview cemetery I with Rev. Richard W. Bridges and Dr. Robert Lively conducting the service. The Family will receive visitors from 1:00PM to 3:00 PM at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home

CANNELTON, Ind. -- Donald A. Smith Jr., 21, of Cannelton died Sunday, July 29, 2001, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Warrick County. The Portsmouth, Va., native worked at Sabelhaus Construction Co. and had worked with his father at Don Smith Electrical. He enjoyed electrical work, concerts, skateboarding, playing video games and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his fiancé, Ashley Ingle of Cannelton; a daughter, Taylynn Smith of Cannelton; his parents, Donald Smith Sr. and Lora Ann Smith, both of Tell City, Ind.; his grandmothers, Helen Hess of Tell City and Beulah Smith of Cannelton; and a sister, Megan Smith of Evansville.

Frank James Weir, age 72, of Adolphus, Ky., died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at The Medical Center @ BG in Bowling Green, Ky. Mr. Weir was employed by Houle Brothers Granite as a crane operator. He was a member of A F L C I O Local, and was an Avid Hunter, Fisherman & Gardener. He was the son of the late Walter Weir and the late Agnes (Donald) Weir.
