Harry W. Berry
September 19, 1923 - April 17, 2001
Harry W. Berry, 77, Norris Court, Glasgow, died Tuesday at his residence. A native of Barren County, he was a son of the late Ellis and Ethel Franklin Berry. Mr. Berry received his law degree from the University of Louisville in 1949 and began practicing law in Glasgow in 1950. He was a former Barren County Attorney and Glasgow City Attorney. He had served as a member of the House of Delegates of the Kentucky Bar Association and also as President of the Barren County Bar Association. He was a member of Camp 658 of Woodmen of the World and had retired as national secretary of Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society of Omaha, Nebraska in 1984. He was also a member of TPA, a veteran of WWII, VFW, American Legion and the Glasgow Baptist Church, where he had also served as Sunday School Teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel Gabhart Berry; one son, Greg Berry and his wife, Leslie of Glasgow; two daughters, Cheryl Ambach and her husband, Jack, and Lori Houchens and her husband, Ricky all of Glasgow; eight grandchildren, Patrick, Andy and Laura Klapheke, Bridget and Steven Houchens, Rachel, Sara and Rebecca Berry; four brothers, Dr. Milton P. Berry, Kenneth Berry and Wayne Berry all of Louisville and Dr. Julian Berry of Texas.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Kenneth Berry
December 30, 1925 - February 13, 2005
Kenneth C. Berry, 79 of Louisville died Sunday, February 13, 2005 in Louisville at Norton Southwest Hospital. He was a native of Barren County, Ky and a retired accountant with Brown-Forman Corp., with 36 years of service. He graduated from the old Bowling Green University in 1949 and was a Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife the former Beatrice T. Wheet; three sons: Gary A., Myron R. and Kent S. Berry; four daughters: Pamela T. Madison, Rosalyn C. Dietzman, L. Melanie Gray and Miriam C. Berry; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be 12:30 P.M. Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Pleasant Home cemetery. Visitation will be after 9:30 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Leymoine Harrison Berry
June 4, 1917 - June 28, 2007
Leymoine Berry, 90, of Glasgow died Thursday, June 28, 2007 at the Glasgow Health and Rehab Center. She was the daughter of the late Eddie Herbert Harrison and Annie Ethel Williams Harrison. She was the wife of the late Milton Lee Berry. She attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter: Martha Lee Berry Cole and her husband Lynn of Glasgow; one grandson: Jordan Lee Whitney Cole of Glasgow; one granddaughter: Courtney Lynn Elizabeth Cole of Glasgow; one niece: Betty Jean Thomerson.
Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sister Edna Mae Carver and her brother Basil Richardson Harrison; two nephews: Billy Terry Carver and Bobby Eugene Carver.
Funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with Bro. John Shepherd officiating. Burial will be in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Visitation will be after 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
Wayne Berry
December - December 14, 2002
Wayne O. Berry age 69 of Columbus Ohio died Saturday December 14, 2002 in Columbus. He was a native of South Barren County. He was the son of the late Ellis and Ethel Franklin Berry. He was of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Jonell Ward Berry. One Daughter Lynn Berry. Three Brothers: Dr. Milton P. Berry and Kenneth Berry both of Louisville and Dr. Julian E. Berry of Cedar Grove, Texas.
He was preceded in death by one sister: Christine Berry and one Brother Harry W. Berry.
Funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Pleasant Home Church cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon Tuesday.
William Forster "Bill" Berry
March 17, 1919 - May 17, 2008
William Forster “Bill” Berry, 89, Glasgow, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at his residence. A son of the late Laura Forster and William T. Berry, he was retired from the 623rd Unit of the Kentucky National Guard and a retired helicopter mechanic with the Federal Civil Service. He was a veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Glasgow Baptist Church, where he formerly was Secretary for the Intermediate Sunday School Department. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a ham radio operator whose call sign was K4KMJ.
Survivors include one brother, Ephraim Berry and his wife, Elsie, of Glasgow; five nieces and nephews, James Steenbergen and wife, Carolyn, of Richmond, TX, Joyce Craven and husband, Ted, of Platte City, KS, Alan Steenbergen of Fredericksburg, TX, John Berry and wife, Connie and Mark Berry all of Glasgow; several great nieces and nephews, including Joshua Berry and wife, Monica, of Glasgow.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Steenbergen; one niece, Linda Buis; one nephew, Eugene Steenbergen.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Mt. Olivet cemetery. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Donald Bertram
September 1, 1931 - October 29, 2003
Donald Lee Bertram, 72, Glasgow, died Wednesday, October 29, 2003, at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital . A native of Barren County, he was the son of the late Hershel and Nell Rush Bertram. A United States Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was former owner of Bertram-Jolly Cleaners, owner of Bertram Signs, a member and former deacon of the Columbia Avenue Church of Christ, a member of the Haywood Volunteer Fire Department and a model train enthusiast.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; one son, Ben Bertram and his wife, Amy of Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Ashley, Gage and Katie Bertram; one sister, Virginia Settle of Louisville ; two nephews, John Bertram Settle of Pittsburgh and Maj. Blake Settle (Adria) of Louisville, presently deployed to Afghanistan; one niece, Susan Lewis of Louisville; his mother-in-law, Velma Anderson of Glasgow; several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, John Settle.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Columbia Avenue Church of Christ with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery . Harry McKenzie Bertram
May 12, 1928 - July 31, 2001
Harry McKenzie Bertram, 73, Millersburg Branch Road, Glasgow, died Tuesday at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. The Barren County native was the son of the late Elber Hawley and Daisy Peden Bertram, a dairy farmer and a member of the Caney Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Hagan Bertram; one son, Joe Bertram and his wife, Marla of Glasgow; one daughter, Rossie Kingery and her husband, Jim of Glasgow; nine grandchildren, Chris Kingery and his wife, Becky, Jeff Kingery and his wife, Melanie, Hollie Buchanan and her husband, David, Brad Bertram and his wife, Tracey, Sherry Bonner and her husband, Barry, Tracy Bertram, Jeanie Bertram, Phillip Bertram and Paul Bertram; 4 great-grandchildren, Grace McKenzie Buchanan, Thomas Kingery, James Kingery and Savannah Grace Kingery. In addition to his parents, one son, Earl Bertram, preceded him in death.

Lester Leroy Bickel
September 25, 1912 - June 24, 2002
Lester Leroy Bickel, 89, Scottie Drive, Glasgow, died Monday at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. He was a retired mechanical engineer at Tyson Bearing in Glasgow, a United States Navy veteran of WW II and a member of the Faith United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian; one son, Jim Bickel and his wife, Suki, of Winston-Salem, NC; one sister, Ida Mae Doolittle of Colorado Springs. He was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Bickel.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Lillian Bickel
February 1, 1911 - December 21, 2004
Lillian Pearl Bickel, 93, formerly of Glasgow, died Tuesday, December 21, 2004, in Winston-Salem, NC . She was the daughter of the late Howard and Millie Mullett. She moved to Glasgow in 1967 and later to Winston-Salem in 2003, after the death of her husband, Lester Leroy Bickel. She was a member of the Gad About Club, Library Club, Bridge Club, the T. J. Samson Hospital Ladies’ Auxiliary and the Faith United Methodist Church .
Survivors include one son, James E. Bickel and his wife, Yong Suk Bickel of Winston Salem, NC. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Mullett.
Private services were held with inurnment in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery under the direction of the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.
Ruth Gramlin Birge
Ruth Gramlin Birge, 84, Glasgow, died Monday at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. A native of Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Lula Starr and Walter L. Gramlin and the widow of the late Ned Birge. She was a homemaker, a member of the YMCA Sassy Club and a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sons, Ralph Lee Birge and his wife, Pat of Mt. Hermon, Gary David Birge and his wife, Mable of Eighty-Eight, Rondal Birge and his wife, Wanda of Louisville; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sons, Billy Dean Birge and Charles Edward Birge and by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the White cemetery in Monroe County. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Bobby Bailey
April 20, 1936 - July 15, 2005
Bobby Bailey, 69, a well-known farmer of the Hiseville Community, died Friday, July 15, 2005, at his residence. A native of Barren County, he was a son of the late John Spencer and Ollie Mae Emory Bailey and a member of the Rock Spring Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Kim Bailey Jackson and her husband, Ralph Farris Jackson, of Cave City, and Lisa Bailey Britt and her husband, Kevan, of Austin; two granddaughters, Jacqueline Kinslow Gardner and Kristi Kinslow Walker; two great-grandsons; three sisters, Helen Bailey Ferguson, Linda Bailey Botts and her husband, Richard, and Wilma Jean Bailey Gooden and her husband, Preston; nine nieces and nephews, Jennifer Gooden Wood, Tim Gooden, Jonathon Gooden, Jamie Hines, Sherry Botts, Debbie Ferguson, Loretta Jones, Sheila Botts and Charlie Botts; one aunt, Hazel Christine Bennett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Spencer Bailey, Jr.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2005, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Hiseville cemetery. Friends may call after 1:30 Saturday at the funeral home. Goldie Muriel Bailey

Goldie Muriel Bailey, 87, Knob Lick, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at her residence. A native of Barren County, she was a daughter of the late Lou Etta Pardue and James Henry Eudy. The widow of the late Guy Thomas Bailey, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Wanda Kidd of Knob Lick; six sons, Thomas Bailey, Russell Bailey and wife, Kaye of Knob Lick, Clay Bailey and wife Brenda of Red Boiling Springs, TN, Gerald Bailey and Kathy of Columbia, Joseph Bailey and wife Janet of Greensburg, and David Bailey and wife Faye of Edmonton; one brother, L.P. Eudy; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Bailey and Laverne Eudy; one brother-in-law, Cecil Byrd; one aunt, Rosie Brown; 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Sara Francis Bailey and Lauretta Mae Johnson; a sister, Elizabeth Irene Glass; seven brothers, Powell Henry Eudy, Thomas Brook Eudy, Frank Henry Eudy, James Samuel Eudy, William Howard Eudy, John Raymond Eudy and Ewing Lawrence Eudy.

Evan Baker, 80, of Glasgow died Thursday, January 10, 2002 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. He was a resident of the Glasgow State ICF.

Barbara O. Bale
April 10, 1939 - September 18, 2007
Barbara Overington Bale, daughter of S. Garnett & Joy Field Bale, was born April 10, 1939, and departed this life September 18, 2007. She attended Christian College in Stephens, MO, before graduating from Western Kentucky University with a degree in Education. She began teaching first grade in the Fayette County school system in 1961, and in 1973 she accepted a teaching position at The Lexington School. During a career that spanned 37 years, she introduced first-graders to the lifelong magic and mystery of learning. Through the art of listening, she learned from them as well as they from her. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving are her sister Daryl Bale Vann (Mrs. E.P.) and brothers Shelby G. Bale and Phillip W. Bale (& wife Kristen), all of Glasgow; Richard H. Bale (& wife Gina) of Spokane, WA; Bradley F. Bale (& wife Pam) of Lubbock, TX; and sister-in-law Robin Bale of Seattle, WA. Also surviving are 15 nieces and nephews; 10 great-nieces and nephews; a multitude of friends; and a large family of dearly loved former students.
There will be a memorial graveside service 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2007, at the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. The family requests that expressions of celebration for Barbara’s life be given to The Lexington School, 1050 Lane Allen Road, Lexington, KY 40504. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.
Ruth E. Bale
March 6, 1911 - April 23, 2003
Ruth E. Bale, 92, Glasgow, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at the Barren County Health Care Center. Born in Louisville, KY, she was the daughter of the late Shelby Pepper and Lizzie McCubbin Bale. She attended Georgetown College, Georgetown, KY and graduated from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, with a degree in Speech and later did graduate study at American University, Washington, DC.
In early life, she was a news reporter for the Hardin County Enterprise and was the Executive Secretary of the Hardin County American Red Cross. A long-time resident of Washington, DC, she served as a congressional staff assistant to Frank Chelf, who represented the old 4th District of Kentucky, in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Always interested in the performing and visual arts, she was a member of the Arts Club of Washington, the Women’s Committee for the National Symphony, the American Opera Scholarship Society and a founding member of the Friends of Kennedy Center. She was also a member of the U.S. Capitol Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. S. Garnett Bale of Elizabethtown and a sister-in-law, Joy Bale Boone of Glasgow. She is survived by six nieces and nephews, Shelby G. Bale of Glasgow, Barbara O. Bale of Lexington, Daryl Bale Vann and her husband, E. P. “Pat”, of Glasgow, Dr. Richard H. Bale and his wife, Gina, of Spokane, WA, Dr. Bradley F. Bale and his wife, Pam, of Spokane, and Dr. Phillip W. Bale and his wife, Kristen, of Glasgow; a niece-in-law, Robin Bale of Tacoma, WA.; fifteen great-nieces and nephews; eight great-great nieces and nephews; many cousins.
Graveside services will be held 4:00 p.m. (EDT) Saturday, April 26, 2003, at the Elizabethtown City cemetery under the direction of the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. There will be no visitation prior to services. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Horse Cave Theater or to a favorite charity.
