Margarett M. Alexander
July 9, 1913 - December 26, 2005
Margarett Elizabeth Matthews Alexander, 92, widow of Robert Oliver Alexander, daughter of James Allen Matthews and Lillie Belle Depp Matthews, was born July 9, 1913 and died Monday, December 26, 2005. A life-long resident of Barren County and member of First Christian Church, she was the devoted mother of Pryntha Alexander Hardenbergh (Murray) of Lexington, Patricia Alexander Nielsen (Chris) of Lexington, Robert M. Alexander (Zara) of Glasgow, Judy Alexander Stokes (Bob) of Glasgow, Anna Margarette Alexander Wilson (Bobby Day) of Nicholasville, and Bobby Chapman (Joan) of Dalton, Georgia. She was the beloved Nana of Meg Travis (Bill), John T. Alexander (Holly), Ashley Donovan (Derek), Andrea Nielsen, Erik Nielsen (Cristy), Nathan Day Wilson (Janice), Adam Wilson (Delena), Shana Langley (Michael), Allison Stokes, Russell Chapman (Michelle), and Rob Chapman (Jackie). Her great grandchildren were Miller and Caroline Travis; Tipton, Sims, and Depp Alexander; Clarissa, Patricia, and Matthew Wilson; Alexander Langley; and McKenzie and Nicholas Chapman. She was a special aunt to many nieces and nephews who showed her great love and devotion.
She was preceded in death by Robert Alexander, her husband of fifty-seven years ; her parents; three brothers and their wives, B.F. and Bess Matthews, John T. and Oma Matthews, and James and Dorothy Matthews; an infant sister, Gladys Christine Matthews; and a dear cousin, Fanny Depp Koellner; two grandchildren, Pryntha Raye and Robert Aaron Wilson; and one great grandchild.
She was Mother of the Year in 1966 and received the Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen Award in 1971. Among her special commitments was her devotion to Glasgow Scottie Band as the designer and seamstress of the Scottish kilts. A devoted sports fan, she supported all Glasgow Scottie teams and the University of Kentucky Wildcats. She served First Christian Church for many years as Cradle Roll Superintendent.
She will be remembered for her generosity, love, wit, sense of humor, and recollections of family history, and especially her ability to tell a good story. As Mom, Nana, Great Nana, Aunt Margarett, or Mrs. A., she will be missed yet always cherished.
Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers, and her great grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2005, at the First Christian Church with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home and after 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.

James Ballard
March 7, 1936 - November 18, 2007
James Ballard, 71, of Glasgow, died Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. He was the son of the late James Talbert Ballard and Lucille Garmon Ballard and he was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by five brothers: Herbert Ballard and his wife Brenda of Glasgow, Robert Ballard and his wife Linda of Glasgow, Carlos Ballard and his wife Linda of Glasgow, Joe Ballard of Glasgow and Preston Ballard and his wife Gayle of Knob Lick; one sister-in-law: Margie Ballard of Edmonton and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother: Garnett Ballard and three sisters: Lucy Fields, Lounell Smith and Mary Ballard.
Funeral will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with Bro. Junior Shirley officiating. Burial will be in the Locust Grove cemetery. Visitation will be after 3:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
Marvin Ballard
August 15, 1984 - July 24, 2007
Marvin Charles Ballard, 22, Glasgow, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Vanderbilt Medical Center from injuries sustained in an accident. A native of Barren County, he was a truck driver for Mid-South Recycling, a member of the Locust Grove Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Shotgun Riders.
Survivors include his wife, Brandi; one son, Memphis Cole Ballard; his parents, Phillip J. and Rebecca S. Ballard of Glasgow; one brother, J.P. (Jane) Ballard of Glasgow; one sister, Jody Ballard of Glasgow; maternal grandmother, Mary Williams of Scottsville; paternal grandmother, Emma Lee Ballard of Glasgow; parents-in-law, Ronnie and Joy Childers and Paul Brown all of Glasgow; three nieces; one nephew; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Charlie Williams and Marvin Ballard.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2007, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Locust Grove cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Maxie Ballard
August 3, 1921 - May 31, 2008
Maxie Mariah Ballard, 86, Glasgow, died Saturday, May 31, 2008, at her residence. A daughter of the late Sophia Riddle and William Thomas Shoopman, she was a homemaker and a member of the Salem Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Lillie Ann Riley and husband, Mark, of Glasgow; one granddaughter, Loralea Riley; two step-grandchildren, James Riley and Andrea Price; one brother, Leonard Shoopman of Louisville; 2 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Finley Ballard, and 8 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2008, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Rogers cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon Sunday at the funeral home.

Nina P. Ballard, 81, Glasgow, died Friday, October 21, 2005, at the Medical Center at Bowling Green. A native of Cumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Martha Branham Vibbert, a homemaker and a member of the Locust Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Rev. Martin Ballard; 11 children, Mattie Wilkerson of Horse Cave, Teddy Ballard and wife, Lou Ella, and Richard Ballard and wife, Sharon, of Glasgow, Johnny Ballard and wife, Georgina, of Horse Cave, Amos Ballard and wife, Meg, of Allen County, Martha Coomer and husband, Danny, and Zeba Thomas of Cave City, Leonard Ballard and wife, Genene, of Glasgow, Brenda Vincent and husband, Greg, of Horse Cave, Joe Ballard and wife, Sherry, of Glasgow, Luke Ballard and wife, Jennifer, of Lexington; five brothers, J. T. Vibbert and wife, Joy, Ralph Vibbert and wife, Susan, Paul Vibbert and wife, Helen, all of Glasgow, Ray Vibbert and wife, Joyce, of Shelbyville, Melvin Vibbert and wife, Dale, of Tennessee; one sister, Myrtle Morgan of Glasgow; 56 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, Frank Henry Ballard, Fannie Lee and Freda Lou Ballard; and one brother, Jake Vibbert.

Larry Baker
April 26, 1946 - December 15, 2004
Larry Glen Baker, 58 of Glasgow, formerly of Middletown, Ohio, died Wednesday, December 15, 2004. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by one son: Brian Baker of Hamilton, Ohio; two daughters: Cathie Stevens and her husband Tommy and Susan McCord and her husband Chris both of Fairfield, Ohio; one brother: John Baker of Sanford, NC; one sister: Betty Sickle of Ellenton, FL; Ten grandchildren: Sarah, Taylor and Shelby McCord, T. J., Cara, Cristin, Catelynn, and Ty Stevens and Christopher and Cody Baker.
Graveside services with full military honors will be Wednesday, December 22, 2004 10:00 A.M. at The Veteran Memorial cemetery in Dayton, Ohio . Visitation will be from 5:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Monday, December 20, 2004 at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association.
Ona Baldock
October 17, 1916 - June 28, 2006
Nee Ona Baldock, 89, of Glasgow, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006 in Loveland, CO. She was the daughter of the late Allen Varney Williams and Mary Emma Gee Williams. She was married
for 57 years to Robert Lemore Baldock who preceded her in death in 1995. She was a member of the Glasgow Bible Church. Ona was an expert quilter, tailor and seamstress.
She is survived by two sons: Robert Allen Baldock of Evansville, IN and James Alfred Baldock of Topeka, KA; one daughter: Martha Susan Fellure of Loveland, CO; six grandchildren: MSGT Margaret Michal Hayatt, Army Reserve, Germany, Jennifer Letha Morehead of Portage, IN, Robert Evan Baldock of Evansville, IN, Charles Logan Baldock of Levittown, NY, Deborah Kay Ammend of Indianapolis, IN and Jacob Marcus Fellure of Loveland, CO; eight great-grandchildren: Hannah Michal Hyatt, William Francis Morehead, Logan Samuel Baldock, Robert Wayne Baldock, Lauren Elizabeth Baldock, Lauren Elizabeth Ammend, Jeremy Michael Ammend and Malachi Drake Felllure; Three sisters: Ollie Williams of Owensboro, KY, Opal Bradley of Glasgow, KY and Otia Bradley of Frankfort, KY.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters: Ovile, Oral, Omar, Ora and Orien.
Funeral will be 11:00 A. M. Monday at the Glasgow Bible Church with Bro. Mike Padgett officiating. Visitation will be after 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the Glasgow Bible Church with a Life Celebration Service at 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the Church, then continued visitation from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Burial will be in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Paul Barton
Paul Barton, 83, of Etoile died Monday, December 29, 2003 at the Greenview Regional Medical Center. Mr. Barton has no survivors. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Funeral will be 11:30 A.M. Friday at the Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Bethlehem cemetery in Monroe County. Visitation will be after 7:00 A.M. Friday.
Dorothy S. Basil
December 4, 1922 - October 29, 2002
Dorothy S. Basil, 79, Glasgow, died Tuesday at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. A daughter of the late Mary Ann Garner and Judge Leslie Shader, she was a retired seamstress at Kentucky Pants and a member of the Coral Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Danny J. Basil and his wife, Marla, Ronnie Basil, and Richard G. Basil and his wife, Donna, all of Glasgow; six grandchildren, Kevin Williams and his wife, Cindy, of Glasgow, Sue Ellen Goad and her husband, Steve, and Rev. Kelly Williams and his wife, Tasha, all of Colorado Springs, Scott Basil, Matthew Basil and Justin Basil all of Glasgow; two step-grandchildren, Amanda Coomer and Dwayne Marr and his wife, Dana, all of Glasgow; one brother, William Henry Shader and his wife, Mary Helen, of Glasgow; one sister, Lucille McGuire and her husband, Paul, of Glasgow; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Clyde H. Belcher
October 5, 1918 - September 30, 2001
Clyde H. Belcher, 82, Hatcher Court, Glasgow, died Sunday at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. The Metcalfe County native was the son of the late Clarence and Effie Norman Belcher. He was a retired sales manager for Preston-Ropp Chevrolet, a member of the Glasgow Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran of WW II.
Survivors include two brothers, James Belcher of Louisville and Robert O. Belcher of Summer Shade and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Hatcher Belcher and a sister, Mary Dean Meredith.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV. Friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

James Belcher, 53, Glasgow, died Tuesday at the Glasgow State Nursing Facility. He is survived by his family of caregivers at the facility.

Margaret Belk
June 29, 1932 - April 12, 2006
Margaret Lavern Hawkins Belk, 73, Glasgow, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at T. J. Samson Community Hospital. A daughter of the late Owen F. and Cordelia Annis Greer Hawkins, she was retired from Tyson Bearing Company and an avid antique dealer and collector. She was a member of Glasgow Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Belk; two sisters, Mildred Burkhead and her husband Ray and Wanda Lawson and her husband Sam of Louisville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2006, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Hazel Christine Bennett
October 24, 1926 - August 23, 2005
Hazel Christine Bennett, 78, Seymour Park Road, Horse Cave, died Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at Caverna Memorial Hospital. Born October 24, 1926, in Barren County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Dolly Wilcoxson Emory and widow of the late Clem H. Bennett. She was a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Carlos P. Bennett and his wife, Joan, and Terry L. Bennett and his wife, Sherry, all of Glasgow; four grandchildren, Connie Martin and her husband Raymond, Jamie Smith and her husband Clifton, Brandy Vibbert and Joey Jolly, and Christopher Lee Bennett; six great-grandchildren, Reagan Martin, Cassie Smith, Chelsea Smith, Caitlyn Smith, Bryson Braswell and Dalton Martin; two sisters-in law, Margo Puckett and Katherine Beard; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ollie Mae Bailey, a brother, LeRoy Emory and a granddaughter, Angela Bennett Braswell Sims.

He is survived by his father: Mark Benningfield of Horse Cave; his mother: Lynn Benningfield of Cave City; one brother: Joshua Benningfield of Cave City; four aunts: Margie and her husband Russell Eatmon of Cave City, Wanda and her husband Marty Cowles of Cave City, Daisy and her husband Emmett Mouldon of Park City, Jennifer and her husband Robert Cloyd of Cave City; eight uncles: Ronnie and Larry Taylor of Cave City, Mike Taylor of Horse Cave, Gary Conatser of Louisville, Tony, Mark, Joey and Brian Benningfield all of Louisville; paternal grandmother Helen Conatser of Louisville, paternal grandmother and grandfather: Walter and Joan Benningfield of Louisville; 14 cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather; Elvie Taylor, his grandmother Betty Crowe and his step-grandfather Tommy Crowe.

Beatrice Bond Roseman Bennington, 93, died Monday, July 04, 2005 at the NHC Health Care in Glasgow.
She is survived by one son: Glenn Roseman of New Castle, IN; two daughters: June Mattox of Smiths Grove and Violet Hoff of Brooksville, IN; twenty grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11:00 A. M. Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Johnstown, PA. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Beulah B. Berry
April 2, 1908 - January 23, 2004
Beulah B. Berry, 95 of Glasgow, died Friday, January 23, 2004 at NHC. She was born April 2, 1908 to the late Clayton and Henrietta Helm. She married
Otis Berry who preceded her in death in 1971.
Mrs. Berry lived in Michigan most of her adult life and retired from the Wayne County General Hospital in 1972. After retirement she returned to the Glasgow area where she lived until her death. Mr. & Mrs. Berry were founding members of Grace Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan were she taught Sunday School there for many years and was very active in church activities.
She is survived by her daughter: Juanita Bingley and her husband Leo of Michigan; three grandchildren: Scott Chickering, Susan Salakari and Chris Chickering; five great-grandchildren.
