Mrs. Marian Vivian Ginger

Mrs. Marian Vivian Ginger, 76, of Madisonville, KY died at 10:37 P.M. Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at her home.

Born August 29, 1929 in Arkansas she was the daughter of the late Howell Aldron Tedder Sr. and Jimmie Ann Oakley Tedder. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Leslie “Buddy” Ginger on June 14, 2003 and one brother, Howell “Bill” Tedder.

She was a salesclerk at the former Hale’s Furniture Store for thirty-one years.

She is survived by two daughters; Kelly Ann O’Bryan and Allyson Kittinger, both of Madisonville; two grandchildren and one great- grandchild.

Mrs. Mary Simms Rucker

Interment: Slaughters cemetery

Mrs. Mary B. Simms Rucker, 88, of Madisonville, KY died Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at the NHC Health Care in Madisonville.

Born October 2, 1917 in Slaughters, KY, she was the daughter of the late Alex C. Buchanan and Frankie Lea Cleak Buchanan. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Kincheloe Simms, her second husband Fulton G. Rucker, a daughter, Dianne Simms McDougal and a step-son, Richard Rucker.

She was a member of Madisonville First Christian Church where she was active in choir and other groups, and served on staff as secretary for twenty years. She was very adept at needle work and spent many hours creating items for the church’s annual bazaar. Over the years she held memberships and served in several civic service organizations including the Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Daughters of the Nile.

She is survived by three grandchildren, P.J. and Patty McDougal of Bowling Green, KY, Mary Lea McDougal of Bowling Green and Matthew and Megan McDougal of Auburn, KY, and son-in-law Paul McDougal of Bowling Green. Step-children are Jim and Peggy Rucker of Danville, KY, Gary and Linda Rucker Rideout of Atlanta, GA, Jack and Mary Rucker Danvenport of Ormond Beach, FL, and a daughter-in law, Patty Rucker of Bowling Green.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Don McLaughlin officiating. Burial will follow in the Slaughters cemetery in Slaughters, KY.

Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday and after 11:00 A.M. Saturday until the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may take the form of donations to the First Christian Church, 1030 College Drive, Madisonville, KY 42431. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ruby Kington Jackson

Mrs. Ruby M. Kington Jackson, 99, of Madisonville, KY died at 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 20, 2006 at the Brighton Cornerstone Healthcare.

Born December 11, 1906 in Graham, KY she was the daughter of the late James Mason Collins and Gertie Hopson Collins. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Hammond L. Kington in 1954 and her second husband, H.B. “Jack” Jackson in 1981 and two brothers, Gregory P. Collins and James M. Collins Jr.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Madisonville First Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald M. and Jo Ann Kington of San Francisco, CA; four grandchildren, Kimmel Kington and Geoffrey H. Kington, both of San Francisco; Mason Kington of Costa Mesa, CA, Ann Kington Frideland of San Mateo, CA and one great-granddaughter, Rose Lovan Frideland of San Mateo.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Don Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows cemetery.

Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Joy Mabel Cobb

Mrs. Joy M. Cobb, 83, of Madisonville, KY, died Thursday, January 19, 2006, at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home.

Born December 9, 1922, in Hopkins County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Mabel Weir Daves. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvis Harold Cobb, Sr., on September 30, 2001; two sisters, Mildred Russell and Rachel Rudd; and one brother, Roy Daves.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Madisonville for over 50 years and was a member of the choir. She was the former manager of West Broadway School lunchroom and a former cashier at Kroger.

Mrs. Cobb is survived by three sons, Terry Cullen, Donnie Cullen, and Harold Cobb, all of Madisonville; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 21, 2006, at 2:00 P.M., at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Leonard and Rev. Jim McMurtrie officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, January 20, 2006, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., and from 11:00 A.M. until the service time on Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Drew Scott, Jerry Weir, Donovan Cullen, J. Doc Hamilton, Kenneth Daves, Stephen Long, David Long, and Frank Corum.

Memorials may take the form of donations to the First Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mary E. Davis

Mrs. Mary E. Davis, 96, of Barnsley, KY died at 6:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at her home.

Born April 13, 1909 in Hopkins County, KY she was the daughter of the late George Thomas Sadler and Mary Caroline Brewer Sadler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Davis; one son, Samuel Davis, one grandson, Paul Davis; five sisters and one brother.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Earlington First Christian Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Jo Ann Belken of Brownstown, MI; one son, Gene Lloyd Davis of Elizabethtown, KY; three sisters, Virginia Wagner of Lincoln Park, MI, Kathleen Baker of Elizabethtown and Dorothy Josey of Madisonville; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.]

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 20, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Morse officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows cemetery.

Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday and on Friday from Noon until the services.

Mr. Brent Hobgood

Mr. Brent Hobgood, 63, of Hanson, KY died at 12:15 P.M. Monday, January 16, 2006 at the Western State Hospital in Hopkinsville, KY.

Born November 30, 1942 in Slaughters, KY he was the son of the late Welby Hobgood and Donnie Thornberry Hobgood. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Kirsten Hobgood.

He was employed in retail sales and was the owner and operator of Hobgood Sporting Goods for ten years. He was a former manager for Carhartt Outlets ;and also worked for Bell South. He was a US Airforce veteran serving during the Vietnam War Era.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pat Hobgood of Hanson; one son, Jeff Hobgood of Hanson; two daughters, Jamie Hobgood of Lexington, KY and Jenger Thorne of Stowe, MA; one sister, Marde Hoggard of Elizabethtown, KY; four grandchildren, Autumn Hobgood, Dustin Hobgood, Iris Thorne and Lily Thorne.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, January 19, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Mr. Jeff Hobgood officiating. Burial will follow in the Slaughters cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry Orange, David Gentry, Mike Copely, Randy Nance, Mike Mangum, Gary Phaup and Lyndle Vaughn.

Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and on Thursday after 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the Alzheimers Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mr. James V. Montgomery

Mr. James V. Montgomery, 68, of Madisonville, KY, died Sunday, January 15, 2006, at 5:30 A.M., at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

Born August 6, 1937, in Emmet, IN, he was the son of the late L. J. and Eva Reed Montgomery. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Scott and Alice Vandiver.

He attended St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and had been in the U. S. Army reserves. He retired in 2004 from the Regional Medical Center after being a medical technologist there for 45 years. He was a member of the International Association of Medical Technologists. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother-in-law.

Mr. Montgomery is survived by his wife of 46 years, Donna Strain Montgomery of Madisonville; three daughters, Kim Cartwright of Hanson, KY, Staci Smith of Newburgh, IN, and Debbie Cox of Evansville, IN; one sister, Ernestine (Teanie) Phillips of Madisonville; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at 1:00 P.M., at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Father Jim Trimble, Rev. Bob King, Deacon Tom Mills, and Bro. Tondra Daugherty officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 17, 2006, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., and from 11:00 A.M. until the service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ray Cartwright, Mike Smith, Ron Cox, Mark Knight, Dick Anderson, Allen Anderson, Erick Polley, and Dennis Scott. Honorary pallbearers will be Perry Howard, Bob Johhnson, Sean Stemaly, and Charles Strain.

Memorials may take the form of donations to Feed the Children, St. Judes Childrens Hospital or the National Crohn’s and Colitis Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mrs. Marion Sue Crook

Mrs. Marion Sue Crook, 59, of Madisonville, KY, died Saturday, January 14, 2006, at 11:27 A.M., at the Regional Medical Center.

Born November 25, 1946, in Hopkins County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Clint and Abbie Hunt Pyles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Clint Anthony Clayton.

She was the owner of Beech Creek Energy Coal Companies, The Carpet Barn, and Quality Pizza. She was a member of Pritchetts Chapel Church, Madisonville Lions Club, and the Hopkins County and Madisonville Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Crook is survived by her husband of 37 years, James William Crook of Madisonville; one daughter, Dawn Crook Dunlap of Charleston, KY; three sons, Jeffery Thomas Clayton of Indianapolis, IN, Kevin Crook and James William Crook II, both of Madisonville; one brother, Andrew Holmes of Nortonville, KY; and two grandsons.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 17, 2006, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, with Bro. Bob Rich officiating.

Visitation will be Monday, January 16, 2006, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., and from 8:00 A.M. until the service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Roy Basham, Harold Basham, Terry Holmes, Dwight Holmes and Gerald Pyles. Honorary pallbearers will be Austin Crook and Doyle Dunlap.

Memorials may take the form of donations to the Mahr Cancer Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mrs. Nancy Lorraine Renfro

Mrs. Nancy Lorraine Renfro, 54, of Madisonville, KY died at 5:42 P.M. Thursday, January 12, 2006, at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, IN.

Born March 2, 1951 in Webster Co., KY she was the daughter of the late Ben Harrison Blanchard and Esther LaPradd Blanchard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard F. Renfro Jr. on June 7, 2003.

Mrs. Renfro was the owner of Renfro Tax Service and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Madisonville and a Kentucky Colonel.

Surviving are two daughters, Kana Lee Smith of Clay, KY, and D.D. Thomas of Henderson, KY; one step-daughter, Melissa Renfro of Louisville, KY; three sons, David and Marion Todd both of Madisonville and Lance Smith of Clay; a step-son, Bradley Renfro of Louisville; two sisters, Barbara McGregor of Clay and Priscilla Ipock of Providence, KY; one brother, Ricky Lynn Blanchard of Gilbertsville, KY and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Brian Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Old Bethel cemetery in Sturgis, KY.

Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday and after 8:00 A.M. Monday until the service time at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Mike Blanchard, Alan Blanchard, Jerry McGregor, Alan McGregor, Max Dodds, David Dunn, James Babb and Cory Hayes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry McGregor, Eugene Ipock, Paul Baldwin, Lance Smith and Timmy Dukes.
