John O’Bryan, 82

John O’Bryan, 82, of Calvert City and formerly of Dawson Springs, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 1:05 a.m. at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.

A retired mechanic and auto body repairman, who for many years worked with Renwalt at Calvert City, where he was an instrument technician, was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran having served from 1942-1946 in the Atlantic where he was a Seaman radio operator on the USS Chimung Fueling Tanker, a charter member of the VFW Post 5359 in Dawson Springs, a Ham radio operator, who built the emergency radio system for MARS that is located at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah and of the Baptist faith, he was born Oct. 12, 1921, in Hopkins County, a son of the late Chester and Essie Leota Jones O’Bryan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Mae Mosley O’Bryan, who died in 1996; a brother, J.R. O’Bryan; and three infant grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, John Thomas “Tommy O’Bryan of Calvert City; two grandchildren, Richard O’Bryan and Misty O’Bryan Reynolds; and three great-grandchildren, Jeromy O’Bryan, Tiffany O’Bryan and Haley Reynolds.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 7, at 2 p.m. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs. The Rev. Randall Rogers officiated the service.

Burial followed in Rosedale cemetery in Dawson Springs.

Mitchell O. Wood, 75

Mitchell O. Wood, 75, of Dawson Springs, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at 3:24 p.m. at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

A graduate of Butler High School in Princeton, retired U.S. Civil Service “civilian” telephone repairman at Ft. Campbell, veteran of the U.S. Army who served from March 1, 1951-Jan. 31, 1953, in Germany, and a member of First Baptist Church of Dawson Springs, he was born April 13, 1929, in Caldwell County, a son of the late Olus V. and Mary “Thelma” Nixon Wood.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Louise Alton Wood in 1930.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jean Hobgood Wood; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen J. and Thomas Conder of Henderson; five sisters, Mary F. Jackson and Jo Ann Hillyard, both of Princeton, Barbara Fae Clark of Trigg County, Nellie Sue Clouse and Mildred Marie Adams, both of Christian County; a brother, Ralph Douglas Wood of Marshall County; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs. The Rev. David Fambrough officiated the service, assisted by the Rev. Maurice Lisanby. Burial followed in Rosedale cemetery in Dawson Springs.

Pallbearers were Bill Schinderle, Joe Lovell, Richard Hatley, Scotie Gray, Ronnie Clark and Douglas Inglis.

Honorary bearers were Ted Armstrong, Wayne Dismang, Ralph Hillyard and Leo Menser.

Owen Son, 81

Owen Son, 81, of Caldwell County, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at 11:31 p.m. at Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green, following a short illness.

A World War II Army veteran, retired truck driver, member of VFW, American Legion and Elks Lodge, he was born Nov. 2, 1922, in Princeton, a son of the late Clem and Macie Nelson Son.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Son and Everett Son; and two sisters, Frances Embry and Margaret Williams.

Survivors include his wife, Nadine Owen Son; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Virginia Long of St. John, Ind.; three grandchildren, Kerry Owen Long, Randy Long Jr., and Kim Young; and a sister, Pauline Merrick of Princeton.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 9, at 11 a.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton. The Rev. Wayne Duncan will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Newsom cemetery in Caldwell County.

Allen Pendleton, 86

Allen Pendleton, 86, of Hopkinsville, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 12:50 a.m. at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., of natural causes.

A prominent Hopkinsville agricultural leader and father of former Caldwell County Sen. Joey Pendleton, he was a retired dairy farmer and member of Second Baptist Church. Born July 21, 1917, in Christian County, he was a son of the late Oscar Turner and Mary Pink Miles Pendleton. As owner of Greenland Jersey Farm, he was actively involved in 4-H work and for 20 years served as a 4-H leader, was active in numerous organizations related to the dairy industry, served as president of the Pennyroyal Parrish Jersey Cattle Club and had served as president of the Pennyroyal Artificial Breeders Association and the Christian County Livestock Improvement Association. A former president of the Christian County Dairy Herd Improvement Association, member of the board of directors for the Christian County Grade A Milk Producers and the Paducah Grade A Milk Producers Association, he was a director of Dairymen Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Barrick Pendleton; a son, Sen. Joey Pendleton; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 8, at 10 a.m. at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home in Hopkinsville.

The Rev. Daniel Ferguson officiated the service.

Burial followed in Riverside cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the scholarship fund of the Christian County Cattlemen’s Association.

Mrs. June Jones, 72

Mrs. June Jones, 72, of Eddyville, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at 7:08 p.m. at River’s Bend Retirement Center in Kuttawa.

A former nurse for Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton and at Hilltop Nursing Home in Kuttawa and a member of Chestnut Oak United Methodist Church in Lyon County, she was a daughter of the late Ben and Marie Robinson Hyde.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. “Pooch” Jones.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa West of Livingston County; a stepdaughter, Anita Bacon of Livingston County; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha Raye Harris of Eddyville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 9, at 11 a.m. at Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel in Eddyville. The Rev. Steve McVay will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Chestnut Oak cemetery in Lyon County.

Lamar Depree Gray, 18

Lamar Depree Gray, 18, of Evansville, Ind., died Saturday, June 5, 2004, the result of an accidental drowning in Gibson County

A former Princeton resident, he moved to Evansville, Ind., at the age of 8 and was educated in Vanderburgh County schools having attended North High School and graduated from Bosse High School in 2004. He had received acceptance to Lincoln Technical School in Indianapolis, Ind., and would have attended in October. He enjoyed rap music and had made a CD of his own rap. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Evansville, Ind.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Winona and Brian Rice of Evansville, Ind.; his father and stepmother, Brent and Liz Gray of Providence; two sisters, Whitney Gray and KayeLa Rice, both of Evansville, Ind.; a brother, Brydell Rice of Evansville; Ind.; a stepbrother, Justin Devonte Gilmore-Gray of Providence; grandparents, Rose Harris and Shirley Gray, both of Princeton, Raymond Robinson and Erletta of Drakesboro, and Ernestine Rice of Evansville, Ind.; great-grandmother, Lillian Gray; several aunts, uncles and cousins, special friends, Theresa Golike and Will Decker, and an unborn son.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 9, at 1 p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church in Evansville, Ind.

Adrian Brooks will officiate the services for Lamar.

Burial will follow in Oak Hill cemetery.

Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel in Evansville, Ind., is in charge of arrangements.

Kay Parker Crick, 43

Kay Parker Crick, 43, of Dawson Springs, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 7:45 p.m. on Hwy. 70, one mile west of Richland in Hopkins County, from injuries received in a one-car accident.

A member of the Christian faith, she had worked in dietary preparation in several nursing facilities in Hopkins County. Born Jan. 27, 1961, in Indianapolis, Ind., she was a daughter of Leeman Ray Parker of Plainfield, Ind., and Patsie Irene Jackson Neisz of Charleston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Carlton in 2001.

Survivors in addition to her mother and father include her stepmother, Janice Parker of Plainfield, Ind.; a son, Micheal Shaun Walls of Princeton; a sister, Gina Clark of Plainfield, Ind.; a brother, Gary Parker of Indianapolis, Ind.; a niece; and three nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 10, at 11 a.m. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs. The Rev. Willard Walls will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Ilsley cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tony Royal, Kenny Clark, Tommy Clark, David Walls, Terry Sharp and Scott Walls.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday and until the funeral hour on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pervis Bishop, 76

Mrs. Pervis Bishop, 76, of Princeton, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at 6:15 a.m. at Caldwell County Hospital, following a long illness.

A retired instructional assistant in the Caldwell County School System and member of Shepherd Street Baptist Church and Happy Homemakers, she was born Feb. 22, 1928, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the the late Lucian Grooms, stepfather, and Ophelia Clark Grooms.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Bishop Jr. in 1997.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and Ronald Ford of Hopkinsville and Debra and Pete Copeland of Princeton; a stepdaughter, Joyce Overton of Lakehurst, N.J.; five grandchildren, Tara Bishop, Carl Copeland, Carroll Copeland, Cedric Ford and LaKeshia Ford; two great-grandchildren, LaNinya Ford-Chambers and Aglaeshia Copeland; four sisters, Jim Ella Bumphus, Lillian Harris, Gladys Sims and Charlene Bumphus, all of Princeton; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 12, at 2:30 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton. The Rev. Gene Baker will officiate, assisted by the Rev. James Brasher.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Nellie Green Frazer Richards, 84

Nellie Green Frazer Richards, 84, of Dalton, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at 2:05 a.m. at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

A member of Dalton Baptist Church, a Dalton Homemaker for 57 years, president of the Hopkins County Homemaker Council, past president of the Dalton PTA, a lifetime member of the Hopkins County PTA, she was born Feb. 8, 1920, in Dalton, the daughter of the late William Alexander Frazer and Pearl Byrd Wyatt Frazer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A.O. Richards on May 10, 2004.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Martin and Cindy Wright, both of Dalton, and Gayle Davis of Princeton; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Amanda Dever and Ada Peyton, both of Dalton.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 12, at 11 a.m. at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville. The Rev. Dennis Mayfield will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Dalton cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robyn Sanchez, Cheree Ball, Irvin Wright, Leah Wright, Kelly Davis and Jayme Davis.

Honorary bearers will be George Dever, Nick Frazer, Alex Peyton, Sam Frazer, Larry Durham and deacons of the Dalton Baptist Church.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Dalton Baptist Church or the Mahr Cancer Center.

Jim Walker, 57

Jim Walker, 57, of Crittenden County, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at 8:51 a.m. at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., following a long illness.

A retired self-employed truck driver and long-time employee for York Borg-Warner in Madisonville, he was born Aug. 28, 1946, in Muhlenberg County, a son of the late Henry Fred and Ethel Pearl Moseley Walker.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Chandler Moseley.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Karla Walker of Princeton; a daughter and a son-in-law, Tammy and Berry Mansfield of Tomball, Texas; four grandchildren, Whitney Stone, Mehgan, Macy and Dallas Walker; long-time friend, Judy Faught of Marion; a brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Sara Walker of Madisonville; a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and John Miller of Slaughters; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Moseley of Crofton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 18, at 3 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton. The Rev. Clarence Cooper will officiate the service, assisted by the Rev. Tommy Tackett.

Military graveside services will follow at Princeton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
