Rev. H.G. Sullivan, 87
The Rev. H.G. Sullivan, 87, of Princeton, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at 1:40 a.m. at Princeton Health Care Manor, following a long illness.
A retired Baptist minister and member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church, he was born Oct. 10, 1916, in Caldwell County, a son of the late John Newton and Ada Belle Riley Sullivan.
Survivors include his wife, Velda Woodall Sullivan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Dorothy Sullivan of Paducah and John and Mary Sullivan of Albermarle, N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Tommy Brown of Princeton; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Sullivan of Caldwell County; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. at Walnut Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. David Brown and the Rev. Steve Thompson will officiate the service.
Burial will follow in Rowland cemetery.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Morgan’s Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the funeral time at the church on Thursday.
Betty Jo Dulin, 69
Betty Jo Weaver Dulin, 69, of Dawson Springs, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at 7:11 a.m. at Madisonville.
A self-employed nurse’s aide who had worked for a number of people in the Dawson Springs area and a member of the New Hope Holiness Church, she was born May 8, 1934, in Hopkins County, a daughter of the late Lexie and Cozy Gamblin Dockery.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Douglas Weaver, who died June 18, 1966; her second husband, Robert Gibbs, who died Feb. 2, 1986; a sister, Blondie Frazier; and a brother, Lenville Dockery.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Faye Braden and Shala Robbin Gibbs, both of Mortons Gap; a son, Troy Patrick Weaver of Princeton; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Aileen Hopkins, Beatrice Hopper, Gala Hunt and Linda McKnight, all of Dawson Springs, and Norma Sue Litchfield of Hopkinsville; and a brother, Pat Dockery of Anton.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 1 p.m. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs.
The Rev. Willard Walls will officiate the service, assisted by the Rev. Tony McKnight.
Burial will follow in Walnut Grove cemetery.
Verbal Mitchell, 90
Mrs. Verbal Mitchell, 90, of Princeton, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at 1 p.m. at her home, following a long illness.
A homemaker and member of Southside Baptist Church, she was born Sept. 4, 1913, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Preston and Allie Mitchell Haile.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David F. Mitchell, in 1989; and a son, Gaydon Mitchell.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Katie Mitchell of Princeton; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Lestina and Jerry Drennan of Nashville, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Will and Evan Drennan; and a sister, Wilma Walker of Hopkinsville.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.
The Rev. Ronnie Sivells officiated the service for Mrs. Mitchell, assisted by the Rev. John Benton.
Burial followed in Princeton Memorial Gardens.

Lillian A. Haney, 72
Lillian A. Haney, 72, of Eddyville, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at 8:20 p.m. at Parkview Nursing Home in Paducah.
A daughter of the late Parvin and Vernon Davenport Miller, she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Haney III in 1982; and two brothers.
Survivors include four sons, Alan Thornburg of Murray, James Haney IV of Madisonville, Dennis Haney of Ledbetter, and David Haney of Paducah; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three brothers, Richard Miller, Charles Miller and James Ronnie Miller, all of Gladewater, Texas; and two sisters, Laverne Haney of Estill Springs, Tenn., and Gloria Byford of Earlington.
Funeral services for Mrs. Haney will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m. at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville.
Burial will follow in Kuttawa cemetery.
Etta Jane Beshear, 77
Etta Jane Beshear, 77, of Dawson Springs, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at 12:20 a.m. at the Dawson Pointe Nursing Home Facility in Dawson Springs.
A graduate of Dawson Springs High School, former employee of Ottenheimers Manufacturing of Dawson Springs and a retiree of Arvin Industries of Princeton with 21 years of service, she was born Jan 23, 1927, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Alma and Georgia Mae Galloway Ausenbaugh. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Church in Caldwell County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Eugene Beshear, on April 13, 1995; a son, Mark Beshear, on Dec. 29, 1982; and a brother, George Earl Ausenbaugh, in 1979.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law Gail and Mike Riley of Princeton, and Joyce and Mark Lamb of Panama City, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Cindy Beshear of Dawson Springs, and Monty and Shari Beshear of Panama City, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs.
The Rev. William Bud Baird and the Rev. Roger Felker will officiate.
Burial will follow in Rosedale cemetery in Dawson Springs.
William Ray Menser, 73
William Ray Menser, 73, of Dawson Springs, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at 2 a.m. at his home.
A sawmill worker who was most recently disabled and a member of the Baptist faith, he was born Oct. 30, 1930, in Hopkins County, a son of the late Dewey Francis and Effie Eula Ford Menser.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Brandt, on Jan. 9, 1998.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Sue Menser; three daughters, Beth Shaklee and Beverly Smith, both of Salem, Mo., and Debbie Brown of Dawson Springs; two sons, Bobby Menser of Davenport, Iowa, and William R. Menser of Dawson Springs; two stepdaughters, Barbara Neisz and Becky Burbage, both of Dawson Springs; a stepson, John Jackson of Dawson Springs; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and three stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs.
The Rev. Mike Menser officiated the service for Mr. Menser.
Burial followed in Dunn cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mark Neisz, John Jackson, Jimmy Menser, Donnie Ausborn, David Ausborn and Ronnie Menser.
Whitson Kirby, 85
Whitson Kirby, 85, of Cadiz, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at 12:45 a.m. at Trigg County Hospital in Cadiz of natural causes.
A retired employee of the State Highway Department and member of Liberty Point Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, he was born Sept. 25, 1918, in Trigg County, a son of the late John William and Zepha Thompson Kirby.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ilean Adams Kirby in 1944; his second wife, Mary Alice Curtis Kirby in 1989; a great-grandchild, Jennifer Johnson; and two brothers, Eugene Kirby and Thomas Kirby.
Survivors include five daughters and sons-in-law, Thelma and Robert Earl Fowler, Cora Ella and Norris Mitchell, Joyce and Joe Anderson, Carolyn “Tib” and Randy Freeman, all of Cadiz, and Kay and Tommy Creamer of Indianapolis, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Hammond of Cadiz.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 29, at 10 a.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz.
The Rev. Jeff Hendricks and the Rev. Derrick Norris will officiate the service for Mr. Kirby.
Burial will follow in Boyd cemetery in Trigg County.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Marcilla C. DeBoe, 92
Marilla C. DeBoe, 92, of Caldwell County, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at 12:52 p.m. at Hilltop Nursing Home in Kuttawa, following a short illness.
A homemaker and member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, she was born Jan. 15, 1912, in Stewart County, Tenn., a daughter of the late Will and Ada Courtney.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Barnes DeBoe, in 1967.
Survivors include a son, Harvey DeBoe Sr., of Caldwell County; a daughter, Sue Ellen Wides of Lexington; two grandsons, Harvey DeBoe Jr. and Charles Sorrell; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home with the Rev. J.R. Bruce officiating.
Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery.
Bettye Bettag, 79
Bettye Fox Bettag, 79, of Cadiz, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at 11 a.m. at her home.
A Eucharistic minister at St. Stephen’s and a member of the Ladies Guild and a homemaker, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Mary Catherine Fox.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Allen Bettag.
Survivors include a son, Tim Bettag of Cadiz; a sister, Helen Dauby of Tell City, Ind.; and a brother, Leo Fox of Sanford, Fla.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, where she was a member.
The Rev. Richard Danhauer officiated the service for Mrs. Bettag.
Burial was in Hurricane cemetery in Trigg County.
Goodwin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Charles R. Mullennix, 70
Charles R. Mullennix, 70, of Eddyville, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at 9:30 p.m. at his home in Lyon County.
A member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, an Air Force veteran serving during the Korean conflict and a retired truck driver for K.A. Steel & Chemical in Lamont, Ill., after 30 years, he was a son of the late Harold and Madeline Warner Mullennix.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Mullennix in 2000; and a brother, Reginald Mullenix in 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Marcia Johnston Mullennix; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles Mullennix Jr. of Peotone, Ill., and Matthew and Kelly Mullennix of Matteson, Ill.; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Wayne Baker of Princeton; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Vern Mullennix of Cadiz and Edward Mullennix of Lake Village, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Jan. 26, at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Lyon County.
The Rev. Robin Redd will officiate the service for Mr. Mullennix. There will be no visitation.
Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville is in charge of arrangements.
James Edward Pool, 78
James Edward Pool, 78, of Eddyville, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at 3:26 p.m. at his home, following a long illness.
A retired Air Force Tech Sergeant and member of First Baptist Chuch of Eddyville, he was born March 22, 1925, in Caldwell County, a son of the late Gid Scott and Ermel Faye Pool.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gid Shelby Pool; and a sister, Charlotte Rose Pool.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie Ann White Pool; a son, Walter R. Pool of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a daughter and son-in-law, Bobbi Faye and Jerry Don Miller of Kuttawa; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 24, at 2:30 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.
Dr. Jerrell White will officiate the service.
Burial will follow in Pool cemetery.
