William Daniel Devantier, 82
William Daniel Devantier, 82, Florence St., Hopkinsville, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at 1:10 p.m. at Jennie Stuart Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Born June 22, 1920, in Galveston, Texas, a son of the late William Lewis and Agnes Irene Hattenback Devantier, he was a self-employed carpenter, a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annalee Devantier, in 2001.
Survivors include a son, James “Danny” Devantier of Hopkinsville; a brother, Gus Albert Devantier of Texas City, Texas; and four sisters, Carmen Oddino of Galveston, Texas, Vivian Mayhugh of Trinity, Texas, Agnes McFarland of New Braunfels, Texas, and Joann McFarland of Groveton, Texas.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 18, at 2 p.m. at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville.
Retired military Chaplain Nelson Gray will officiate the service.
Burial will follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Humane Society or to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
Esta Marie Jones, 83
Esta Marie Jones, 83, of Fredonia, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at 2:20 p.m. at Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton.
A member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Marion, she was a daughter of the late Clyde “Lydie” and Annie Agner Summers.
She was preceded in death by eight brothers and a sister.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, James T. Jones of Fredonia; two sons, John Pollock of Akron, Ohio, and Jimmy D. Jones of Newburg, Ind.; three daughters, Barbara Meredith of Eddyville, Sandra Joiner of Alexander City, Ala., and Mary Faulkner of Kenton, Del.; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Summers of Clarksburg, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 18, at 4 p.m. at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville.
Dean Sharp will officiate the service.
Burial will follow in Dycusburg cemetery.
Nell Harding Dockray, 83
Nell Harding Dockray, 83, of Madisonville, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at 4:30 a.m. in Princeton at the home of her granddaughter.
A homemaker, member of First Baptist Church of Madisonville and V.F.W. Post 5480 Ladies Auxiliary, she was born Oct. 23, 1919, in Hopkins County, a daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth Katherine Stoltz Harding.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Posey Dockray, on Oct. 2, 1993.
Survivors include a daughter, Gail McKenney of Paducah; a granddaughter and caregiver, Shera Mason of Princeton; two great-granddaughters; Jennifer Lasher and Jessica Mason; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 19, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville
Dr. Joe Leonard will officiate the service.
Burial will follow in Odd Fellows cemetery in Madisonville.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Mason, Steven Stoltz, Derek Lasher and Denny Stoltz.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until the service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
Laura Mae Thompson, 76
Laura Mae Thompson, 76, of Princeton, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at 7:51 p.m. at Caldwell County Hospital, following a short illness.
A homemaker and member of St. James Cumberland Presbyterian Church, she was born July 5, 1927, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Tilford and Edna Belle Stokes Bumphus.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee Thompson.
Survivors include a son, Donald Eugene Rice of Princeton; two brothers, Melvin Bumphus of Princeton and James Robert Bumphus of Louisville; two sisters, Sarah Copeland and Shirley Robinson, both of Princeton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 16, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Oscar Powell officiating, assisted by the Rev. Samuel Scott, the Rev. James Brasher and the Rev. Jerry Gray.
Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery.
Boyce E. Traylor, 88
Boyce E. Traylor, 88, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, in Sun City, Ariz.
Born July 21, 1915 in Repton, a son of the late Holbert W. and Vera Ann Summers Traylor, he was reared in the Fredonia area of Caldwell County. He was a member of the Bigham Lodge #256 F.&A.M.; in Marion.
He was preceded in death by a sister, JoAnna Phelps in December, 2002.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Osborne Traylor; two sons, Michael Traylor and Boyce Traylor Jr.; two daughters, Linda Chapman and Elaine Traylor; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Traylor; and ten nieces and nephews.
Burial was in El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego, Calif., where he had resided many years.
Zola L Wright, 57
Zola L. Wright, 57, of Kuttawa, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at 4:50 a.m. at Methodist Hospital in Morganfield.
A daughter of the late Terry and Frances Haney Wright, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Wright; a sister, Terry Annetta Wright; and two grandchildren, Amber and Charlie Wright.
Survivors include a son, Charlie Wright of Kuttawa; a daughter, Terry Towery of Farmersville; four grandchildren; a brother, James Wright of Wheatcroft; and five sisters, Mamie Herndon of Kuttawa, Mary McVay of Lisman, Martha Jacobs of Fredonia, Frances Brinkley and Kathy Jones, both of Crayne.
Graveside services were conducted Thursday, Aug. 14, at 4 p.m. at Pleasant Hill cemetery.
The Rev. Mickey Lewis officiated the graveside services for Ms. Wright.
Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville was in charge of arrangements.
Elizabeth B. Rogers, 92
Elizabeth B. Rogers, 92, formerly of Princeton, died Sunday morning, Aug. 10, 2003, in Louisville.
A resident at the Jefferson Place Nursing Home in Louisville for the past 11 years, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Vera Gunn Banister.
She was a retired vice president and trust officer from the Farmers Bank and Trust Company where she retired in 1976 after more than 40 years of service. A past president of the Kentucky group of the National Association of Bank Women, a past president of the Princeton Business and Professional Women’s Club where she was named “1969 Woman of the year,” she also served on the Princeton City Council from 1962-1970 and was a member of the board of directors of the Princeton Chamber of Commerce from 1971-1974. A longtime active member of the First Christian Church of Princeton, she served as secretary, organist and a member of the choir. She was also a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Neil Allison Banister, and a sister, Mary Katherine Sphar.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Byron and Micke Rogers of Sausalito, Calif.; two granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Beth and David White; and Michele and Hudson Piehl of Novato, Calif; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, “Rocky” and Doreen Rogers of Louisville; and four great-granddaughters, Brynn White, a student at the University of Georgia at Athens, Ga., Tate White of Louisville and Audrey and Natalie Piehl of Novato, Calif.
A memorial service will be held at the Jefferson Place Nursing Home at 1705 Herr Lane, Louisville, on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m.
Expressions of sympathy in the honor of Mrs. Rogers may take the form of donations to the First Christian Church of Princeton.
James O. Rushing, 82
James O. Rushing, 82, of Fredonia, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at 7 p.m. at Hilltop Nursing Home in Kuttawa, following a long illness.
A retired farmer, he was born March 7, 1921, in Caldwell County, a son of the late Silas and Mary Jane Holloman Rushing.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Stella Jones, Morine Parmley and Anita Campbell; and two brothers, Marion Rushing and Joe Rushing
Survivors include a son, Larry Rushing of Fredonia; two grandchildren, Shea Rushing and Kyle Rushing, both of Fredonia; a brother, Harden Rushing of Fredonia; two sisters, Juanita Wallace of Fredonia and Lala Rushing of Shawneetown, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.
Burial will follow in Fredonia cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Kathleen Ruffin, 60
Kathleen Ruffin, 60, of 2775 Lakeview Church Rd., Benton, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at 5:40 a.m. at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.
A prep cook and member of Lakeview Baptist Church, she was a daughter of the late Starling and Lottie Parker Coats.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Coats; and two sisters, Mable Jackson and Mary McLeod
Survivors include her husband, Charles Ruffin; two daughters, Susan Ruffin Webb of Bardwell and Melissa Ruffin Hale of Calvert City; a son, Douglas B. Ruffin of Benton; five grandchildren, Charles David Ruffin and Michael K. Ruffin, both of Benton, Brittany Paris and Kathleen Webb, both of Bardwell, and Clayton Thomas Hale of Calvert City; three brothers, Charles C. Coats and Buddy Coats, both of Coats, N.C., and Starling Coats Jr. of Selma, N.C.; and three sisters, Bessie Barefoot of Lillington, N.C., Glaydes Barefoot and Kathy Wells, both of Coats, N.C.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruffin were conducted Friday, Aug. 8, at 2 p.m. at Collier Funeral Chapel in Benton.
The Rev. Darvin Stom and the Rev. David York officiated the service.
Burial followed in Lakeview cemetery in Benton.

Christine B. Thompson, 78
Mrs. Christine Brown Thompson, 78, of the Farmersville Community in Caldwell County, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at 2:20 p.m. at Caldwell County Hospital, following a long illness.
A retired teacher with 30 years experience for the Caldwell County School Systems and a life-long member of Donaldson Baptist Church, she graduated from Farmersville High School and Murray State University. She was a former secretary at General Motors in Detroit, Mich., former member of The Princeton Art Guild, Caldwell County Homemakers, Paducah Quilt Society and Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. Born Sept. 7, 1924, in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lindsay Brown, who died Oct. 30, 1969, and Eva Belle Holeman Brown, who died Oct. 23, 1996.
Survivors include four sons, Steve Thompson and Sammy Thompson, both of Princeton, Stan Thompson of Murray and Sid Thompson of DeMotte, Ind.; seven grandchildren; a brother, Dr. Linz Brown of Carbondale, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Aug. 17, at 2:30 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Matt Ellis officiating.
Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
