Matthew George ‘Doc’ Stuedle, 79
Pewee Valley
Matthew George ‘Doc’ Stuedle, 79, of Pewee Valley, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011.
Stuedle was a U.S. Army veteran who served in France and Germany after World War II. He enjoyed wood working, chip carving, making dulcimers, and making many items for his family. Stuedle donated hundreds of wooden gifts to Toys for Tots.
He was a member of the Louisville Dulcimer Society since its inception, earning their lifetime achievement award.
Beekeeping was more than a hobby, it was his passion. Honey production, Kentucky State Fair exhibitions, the Kentuckiana Beekeeping Association – including serving as their president – were outstanding highlights of his life.
He received the Beekeeper of the Year award in 2000, and a Lifetime Achievement award in 2010.
Stuedle was also dedicated to the Pewee Valley Volunteer Fire Department. He received the department’s Volunteer Fireman of the Year award for rescuing a balloonist from the Channel 11 radio tower in 1983.
He was also a member of the Pewee Valley Volunteer Police Department, and served on the town council for several years.
He received the Pewee Valley Lifetime Service to the Community award for his devotion to the city.
He was a long time member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Pewee Valley, the Gruetli Helvetia Club, the German-American Club and the Antique Tractor Club. He is also a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Betty Batcheldor Stuedle; three daughters, Mary Ann (Ken) Harvey, Susan (Dan) Lance and Elizabeth “Charlie” (Lee) Smith; four grandchildren; four sisters and a brother.
A funeral Mass was Feb. 28 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial took place in St. Aloysius cemetery. Stoess Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Shelbyville
Blanche Wayne, 90, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at the Masonic Home of Shelbyville.
She was a Baptist.
She was a retired nurses’ aid and worked at Kings’ Daughters Hospital, Crestview Nursing Home and Baptist East.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Wayne; one granddaughter and two grandsons.
Survivors include daughters, Shirley (Eddie) Ragan of Pewee Valley, Carolyn Sluman-Mitchell of La Grange and Betty Jo Snider of Crestwood; sons, Carl (Galene) Wayne of Bowling Green, Glenn (Teresa) Wayne of Louisville and Larry Wayne of Lebanon; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Lydia Phillips of Shelbyville, Ada Harley of Louisville, Marie Murphy of Shelbyville, Clara Issacs of Louisville, Linda O’Bannon of Chestnut Grove, and Brenda Oldham of Shelbyville; brothers, Joe Nation and Harold Nation, both of Shelbyville.
Services were March 2 at Shannon Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jesse Baxter officiating. Burial followed in Grove Hill cemetery.

La Grange
Sabine Specka DeWitt, 67, of La Grange, passed away Friday, February 18, 2010, at home.
She was a native of Leipzig, Germany.
Survivors include her husband, Robert G. DeWitt; daughters, Petra (Günther) Czarnecki of Germany, Rita (Rick) Everett of New York, Trudy (Shannon) Cunningham and Leah (Mitch) Slaughter; stepchildren: David DeWitt, Marty DeWitt and Christy (Darrell) Gidean; sisters, Ingrid Issleiber of Germany, Brigitta Oldaker and Marianne Ellrich of Germany; grandchildren, Galen Everett, Mitchell Slaughter, Alitzia Everett, Nicholas Gleitz, Miyonna Slaughter, Jordan DeWitt, Lacey DeWitt, Austin DeWitt, Justin P. DeWitt, Tyler DeWitt, Aaron DeWitt and Alexis DeWitt.
Services were Monday at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Garnett B. Morgan Sr., 88, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011, at The Richwood.
He was born on May 10, 1922, and was a lifelong resident of Oldham County. He was a retired farmer and member of Covington Baptist Church in Westport.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Dawson Morgan; daughter, Dana Rae Morgan; parents, V.B. and Junia Fendley Morgan; sisters, Sylvia Fulton, Virgie Moore and Margie Clifford. Survivors include his daughter, June Etta St. Clair; sons, Bobby (Evelyn) Morgan and Garnett Morgan Jr.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
Services were Sunday at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral & Cremation Service.
Burial took place in Valley of Rest cemetery. Memorial contributions may go to Covington Baptist Church.

Ruth Rahm, 89, of La Grange, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2011.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Rahm; and her son, Ricky Rahm.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Kenny) Smith; four grandchildren, Kellee (Brent) Gibbs, Kurk Smith, Chris (Sharon) Rahm and Tim Rahm; two great-grandchildren, Josh Rahm and Zach Rahm; daughter-in-law, Audrey Rahm; a sister, Helen Daugherty; and her grand-dogs, Stella, Daisy, Rikki, Kleo, Diesel and Ozzy.
Services were Feb. 17 at Oldham County Funeral Home.

Burial took place at at Louisville Memorial Gardens East.

She was a member of the VFW and AMVETS in Dallas.
She is preceded in death by a daughter, Veronica Ann Wood.

Wayne D. Woosley, 73, of Worthville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Baptist Hospital Northeast.
He is the retired owner of Woosley Excavating and a member of the La Grange Assembly of God Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mary McIntosh Woosley; and two brothers, Bill and Gus Woosley.

Katherine Taylor Ellis, 99, of Smithfield, entered the gates of heaven on Monday, July 16, 2012.
Katherine was a farmer’s wife, a retired state worker and member of Ballardsville Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ellis; and a daughter, Shirley Rockwell.
She is survived by her children, Doris (Charles) Anderson, Marian (Richard) Coiner, Billie (Arnold) Collins and Hobert (Wayne Goodwin) Ellis; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

R.D. Dunaway, 79, of La Grange, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2012.
He was a Drywall Finisher for Norman Lusch Drywall.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgia, and son, Ronnie.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Kay Dunaway; daughter, Melissa Dunaway; sons, Bruce (Cindy) Dunaway and Daryl (Deborah) Dunaway; brother, J.C. (LaMonne) Dunaway; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
Service are 11 a.m. Friday at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today (Thursday).

Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 30, at 1 p.m. at Rocky Ridge Baptist Church in Cadiz with the Rev. Troy Ladd officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
