Mary Elizabeth Davis, 88

La Grange

Mary Elizabeth Davis, the former Mary E. Layman, 88 of La Grange, died Thursday, December 23, 2010, at her residence.

She was a native of Grayson County, and a retired bookkeeper for Spalding Laundry.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Davis.

Survivors include her step-daughters, Shirley Smith and Elaine (Bill) Logsdon.

Services were Tuesday at Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood.

Burial took place in Resthaven cemetery.

L. Marilyn Thompson Frailey, 84

Lancaster, Penn.

L. Marilyn Thompson Frailey, 84, of Lancaster, Penn., passed away Monday, December 20, 2010, at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born at Glenarm, she was the daughter of Leonard H. and Hattie G. Gossett Thompson.

Many in Kentucky knew her as Chunny.

She met her husband, Robert R. “Bob” Frailey, while she served on the staff of the U.S. High Commissioner for Germany. Bob was stationed at the U.S Embassy, Bonn, West Germany.

They were married 55 years.

Survivors include her husband, Bob; two children, Michael (Barbara Hall) Frailey and Cynthia Ann (Williams) Keil.

A kind, thoughtful soul, Marilyn always asked how she could help; and maintained many bird baths and feeders.

One of her nieces wrote, “There won’t be a flower, bird, squirrel, deer or garden landscape in which I won’t remember Marilyn.”

She would be pleased to know that you thought of her when helping others or caring for wildlife.

Services will be private.

LeRoy Moore, 82

Eminence

LeRoy Moore, 82, of Eminence, died Monday, December 27, 2010, at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Dixie Bright Moore of Eminence; and a son, David Moore of Eminence.

Services were Wednesday at Sholar Funeral Home of Pleasureville, with the Rev. Jerry Anderson officiating.

Burial took place in Sligo cemetery.

Richard Edwards Smith Sr., 66

La Grange

Richard Edwards Smith Sr., 66, of La Grange, passed away Friday, December 24, 2010.

He was a member of Eighteen Mile Baptist Church and a machinist.

He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Edwards Smith Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Whitely Smith; children, Tracy (David) Melton, Rodney K. (Connie) Smith and David S. Smith; a brother, James “Rote” (Vesta) Smith; sisters, Marilyn Smith and Betty V. (Jim) Dixon; and five Grandchildren.

Services are 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at Eighteen Mile Baptist Church.

Burial took place in Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation is 10 a.m. today at the church and took place Wednesday at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Memorial contributions may go to Hosparus of Louisville.

James Dallas, 79

La Grange

James Dallas, 79, of La Grange, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at Baptist East Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother.

The body was cremated.

A funeral Mass will take place at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception in La Grange.

Gertrude Baertels Kidwell, 84

Sligo

Gertrude Baertels Kidwell, 84, of Sligo, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Wynwood Retirement Center in Mandeville, La.

Daughter of the late Charles and Pearl Moran Baertels, she was a bookkeeper for Ashbourne Farms (owned by Brown-Forman Distillery) and later for River Road Country Club and was involved with the DAV Ladies Auxiliary.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in La Grange.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Joe E. Kidwell.

Survivors include a son, Charles (Marty Duffy) Kidwell of Madisonville, La.; granddaughters, Jackie (Tony) Bartlett of Spring, Texas, and Kim (Tommy Hollahan) of Austin, Texas; two great-grandsons, Joseph Kidwell Bartlett and Samuel Christian Bartlett.

Services were Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in La Grange, with the Rev. Mark Spalding officiating.

Burial took place in Sligo cemetery.

Pallbearers were Steve Greenwell, Steve Tubbs, Jimmy Combs, Ricky Allgeier, Walter A. Logan and Raymond Allgeier.

Memorial contributions may go to the American Cancer Society.

Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Martin J. ‘Marty’ Klein, 78

La Grange

Martin J. “Marty” Klein, 78, of La Grange, died Friday, January 14, 2011, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Klein; sons, Martin J. (Michelle) Klein III and Mark (Nell) Klein; daughter, Kim (Lewis) Holland; and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth D. Klein.

Services were Monday at Oldham County Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may go to Hosparus of Louisville.

Jo Ann Purvis Long, 68

La Grange

Jo Ann Purvis Long, 68, of La Grange, passed away at Baptist Hospital Northeast on Thursday, January 13, 2011.

Survivors include her husband, J.C. Long; children, Danny (Lucy) Long, Janice Bramer and Jaime Disney; grandchildren, Jennifer Erdle, Katie Long, Matthew Long, Mason Bramer, Brooke Bramer, Madelyn Disney and Lilly Disney; and a great-granddaughter, Riley Sue Long.

Services were Tuesday at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Burial took place in Louisville Memorial Gardens East.

Lelia Satterly, 93

Louisville

Lelia Satterly, 93, of Louisville, died January 12, 2011, at her residence at The Oaklawn in Louisville.

She was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church in Washington County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.G. Satterly.

Survivors include her children, Tony (Laura) Satterly and Roxie (James) Hall; grandchildren Kim (Chris) Grater, Michael Satterly, Allen (Heather) Hall, Rebekah (Darren) Lacy and Brice Hall; great-grandchildren, Emily Grater, Katie Grater, Elizabeth Lacy, Julia Lacy, Clara Hall and Quint Hall; and other family members and friends.

A celebration of her life will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel in Harrodsburg.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.

Burial will take place in Springhill cemetery.

Memorial contributions may go to Oneida Baptist Institute, P.O. Box 67, Oneida, Ky., 40972.

Lelia’s family gratefully thanks the nurses and CNAs at The Oaklawn for their loving kindness and care.

Alexander ‘Sandy’ Speer, 67

Goshen

Alexander “Sandy” Speer, 67, of Goshen, died Thursday, January 13, 2011, at his residence.

The body was cremated.

Services will be 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 330 North Hubbards Lane, Louisville.

A reception will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Actors Theater of Louisville www.actorstheater.org, Parkinson’s Support Center of Kentuckiana www.pscky.org, or the Episcopal Church Home, 7504 Westport Road, Louisville.

Bertha Stoess Yoakam, 81

Louisville

Bertha Stoess Yoakam, 81, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2011, at her home.

She was a member of Middletown First Baptist Church, and she retired from the payroll department at Ford Motor Company’s Kentucky Truck Plant.

Survivors include her husband, David L. Yoakam; sons, Jerry (Mary Kay) and Rick (Judy) Purcell; stepsons, Dwight and Ronald Yoakam; stepdaughter, Kim (Jim) Leslie; brothers, Jim (Ann) and Bob (Dot) Stoess; sisters, Holly (Bill) Fischer and Dena (Jim) Thurmond; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were Wednesday at Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood.

Burial took place in Floydsburg cemetery.
