Donald Berkemeier, Wilder fire chief
Donald Berkemeier was a man with a large commitment to his community and his family.
Wilder's first volunteer fire chief, Mr. Berkemeier, 70, of Newport, died early Sunday in the St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
Mr. Berkemeier had retired after 39 years as a customer service employee with the Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co. He also found time to lead his community's fire department and, at various times, to be a part-time police officer in Wilder and Highland Heights.
Mr. Berkemeier was a member of the Wilder Fire Department for 17 years, said a son, Randy Berkemeier of Burnside.
"He was into everything," the younger Berkemeier said of his father's civic and veterans' involvements.
An Army veteran of World War II, where he served in Italy and France, Mr. Berkemeier was a commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8020, in Wilder, and was a member of the VFW's Order of Cooties, his son said.
"He did everything he could for his community and his family," said Randy Berkemeier.
A daughter, Vicky Berkemeier, died in 1980.
Other survivors include his wife, Mary Berkemeier; sons, Dennie Berkemeier of Somerset and Rick Berkemeier of Wilder; a stepson, Jim Ruschman of Ft. Mitchell; daughters, Susan Chenot of Wilder and Bonnie Combs of Cold Spring; stepdaughters, Kim King of Alexandria, Cindy Stith of Bridgetown, Ohio, Chris Ruschman of Ft. Mitchell and Peggy Ruschman of Newport; brothers, Edward Berkemeier of Walton and Tom Berkemeier of Phoenix; a sister, Phyllis Jones of Cincinnati; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Church, Wilder. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with prayers at 8. Cremation will be in Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Wilder Fire Department, 402 Licking Pike, Wilder, Ky. 41071; or American Cancer Society, 7730 U. Charles "Buddy" Ammerman, 66, of Falmouth, died Sunday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana.

Jeanne Arnold, 51, of Ft. Worth, Texas , died Saturday at Ft. Worth Osteopathic Hospital. She was an executive secretary with Alamo Title Co., Ft. Worth.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Arnold; sons, Paul Arnold Jr., Chris Taylor and Jason Taylor, all of Ft. Worth; daughters, Gina Taylor and Ashley Arnold, both of Ft. Worth; her mother, Helen Martin of Villa Hills; brothers, Eddie Martin, Phillip Martin, Mike Martin, Jeff Martin and Scott Martin, all of Kentucky; sisters, Bobbie Lee Clark of Virginia, Mary Hackman of Kentucky and Linda Rabaxus; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Funeral Home, Ft. Worth. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Ft. Worth.

Gladys Bramblett, 90, of Owenton, died Thursday at Owen County Hospital in Owenton. She was a homemaker and a member of Long Ridge Baptist Church, Owenton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gayle Bramblett, and a son, Lloyd Bramblett.
Survivors include a daughter, Gwendolyn Cobb of Plainfield, Ind.; a brother, Harvey Bradford of Ohio; a sister, Louise Nelson of Lucasville, Ohio; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

James H. "Johnnie" Bravard, 73, of Brooksville, died Saturday at his home. He was a plumber and electrician with Downard Plumbing and Electric, and a member of Disabled American Veterans. He was a World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Downard Bravard; daughters, Linda M. Mineer and Cynthia Berry, both of Brooksville, and Charlotte Poe of Washington , Ky.; sons, Mike Bravard and John A. Vera L. Bredemeyer, 68, of Bellevue, died at 7:55 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Highland Hills Baptist Church, Ft. Thomas.

Myrix "M. J." Crouch, 73, of Verona, died at 3:37 a.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a former bus driver with Walton-Verona schools and a former Sunday school teacher and usher at First Baptist Church, Walton. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Verona, a past master of Walton Masonic Lodge No. 719, and a 32nd degree Mason. He was coach of the Bulldogs Knothole Baseball and Rosie Reds Girls Softball teams in Walton.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Pennington Crouch; a son, Myke Crouch of Verona; daughters, Glenda Wainscott of Verona and Wynona Osborne of Covington; nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Maude E. Frisby, 82, of Independence, died at 11:20 a.m. Saturday at Batavia Nursing Home, Cincinnati. She was a retired restaurant worker and a member of the Church of God, Alexandria. She was a member of Restaurant Workers Union Local No. 12, Cincinnati. Sons Joseph M. Stewart and Donald Stewart died in 1986 and 1950, respectively. A daughter, Dolores Turner, died Dec. 21.
Survivors include a son, Ted Wolfe of Peach Grove; daughters, Doris Prather of Independence, Joyce Capal of Taylor Mill and Betty Graziani of Highland Heights; a brother, Raymond Abner of Kenton County; 42 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 17 great- great-grandchildren.

Dee Gulley Hodge, 71, of Dayton, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Eagles Club.

Edith M. Hogrefe, 105, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Kenton County, died Friday at Wesley Care Center, Charlotte. She was a homemaker and a member of Order of the Eastern Star Naomi Chapter, and was a Grey Lady with the American Red Cross.
Survivors include a daughter, Estelle Jones of Charlotte, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Estelle Mae Linville, 98, of Mt. Olivet, died Sunday at Robertson Health Care Center in Mt. Olivet. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Olivet Christian Church. Her husband, Earl B. Linville, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, William B. Linville of Mt. Olivet; and a sister, Grace Holt of Cincinnati.

Marguerite Parker McDaniel, 92, of Fayetteville, N.C., formerly of Alexandria, died Friday at her son's home in Fayetteville. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Arthur McDaniel, died in 1984.
Survivors include a son, Stephen McDaniel of Fayetteville, N.C.; sisters, Thelma Voss of Southgate, Ione Reder of Ft. Thomas, Lillian Vater and Ferol Traub, both of Alexandria; brothers, Clyde Parker of Lenoxburg and Sam Parker of Alexandria; and nine grandchildren.

Aleatha J. Miracle, 58, of Hamilton, Ohio, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a chaplain with the pastoral care department of St. Elizabeth Medical Center and a former pastoral associate with Mercy Hospital in Hamilton, Ohio.
