Arlene Anderson
Arlene Anderson, 85, of Hardy, Kentucky, died on Friday, Jan. 2, 2003, at the Mingo Manor Nursing Home in Williamson.
She was born on May 19, 1918, in Pike County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Joe and Truley Fraley Johnson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Clifford Johnson; one sister, Maxine Hinkle; and one grandson, Brandon Stepp.
She is survived by one son, Ron Stepp of St. Albans, W.Va.; one brother, Eugene A. Johnson of Wyandotte, Mich.; and one daughter, Magdelene Scott of Hardy, Kentucky; one granddaughter, Ronda (Grover) Church; and one great-granddaughter, Julianna Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home chapel with Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Julius Scott cemetery in Hardy.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 4, at the funeral home.
Donna Harless
Donna Harless, 61, of Jackson, Tenn., formerly of Inez, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2004. She was born February 26, 1942, to the late Samuel Goble and Docie Goble.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 25, 2004, 1 p.m., at Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez, Kentucky
Visitation will be held Friday and Saturday, 5-10 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mary Varney
Mary Margaret Dehart Varney, 87, of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of Matewan, died on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
She was born on March 16, 1927, in McCarr, Kentucky, a daughter of the late George and Naomi Webb Dehart. She was a homemaker and a member of the Enon United Baptist Church in Blackberry City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Varney; one son, Richard Varney Jr.; one granddaughter, Ricky Jean Varney; three sisters, Helen Ball, Anna Lee Dehart and Edith Warf; and three brothers, George Dehart Jr., Herbert Dehart and Everett Dehart.
Mrs. Varney is survived by one son, George T. Varney; one daughter, Toby Ann Chafin; two brothers, Walter Dehart and Jimmy Dehart; two sisters, Patsy Yates and Betty White; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at the Chambers Funeral Services' chapel in Matewan with Bro. Jerry McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in the Varney cemetery in Lynn, W.Va.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 4, at the chapel.
Iwan Devine Charles
Iwan Charles, of Raccoon, Kentucky, born June 10, 1919, died at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital, January 22, 2004.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Omar Charles, one son, six sisters and one brother.
Survivors include Helena Lowe of Raccoon, Don Charles of Raccoon, Phyllis Coleman of Robinson Creek, Bobby Charles of Raccoon, Gail Rife of Raccoon and Henry Charles of North Webster, Ind.; sisters, Emogene Taylor of Raccoon and Billie Sue Smith of Pikeville; and one brother, R.D. Maynard Jr. of Romulas, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Community Funeral Home, Pikeville, Kentucky
Larna Horn
Larna Horn, 78, of Inez, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2004.
She was born December 31, 1925, to the late Harrison Endicott and Mintie Hammonds.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2004, 12 noon, at Calf Creek United Baptist Church with Lonnie Ratliff and Brumley Marcum officiating. Burial will follow in the Hinkle-Endicott cemetery, Calf Creek, Kentucky
Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Monday, and all day Tuesday at the church.

Billy Crum, 47, of Davella in Martin County, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2004.
He was born November 30, 1957 in Hamilton, Ohio, to William F. Crum and Tennessee Tiller, both of Davella.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2004, 1 p.m., at Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez, Kentucky with Mike Amos officiating. Burial will follow at Crum cemetery, Davella, Kentucky
Visitation will be held anytime at the funeral home.

Rhonda King
Rhonda Faye King, 42, of Sidney, Kentucky, died on Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at her residence.
She was born on July 18, 1961, in Williamson, a daughter of James Harold and Phyllis J. Blackburn of Sidney. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God Acts 20:28.
She was preceded in death by one brother, James R. Blackburn.
Mrs. King is survived by her parents; her husband, Michael Anthony King of Sidney; three sons, Michael R. (Dorine) King of Phelps, Kentucky, David A. King and fiancee Crystal Smith of Sidney, and Kenneth L. (Amanda) King, who is stationed with the U.S. Marine Corps in Japan; one brother, William L. Blackburn of Hardy, Kentucky; one sister, Teresa Dean of Williamson; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at the Church of God Acts 20:28 with Paul Ray Davis officiating. Entombment will be in the Mountain View Mausoleum in Huddy, Kentucky
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, and Sunday, Jan. 11, at the Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Kentucky, and after 5 p.m., Monday, Jan. 12, at the church. Special services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home chapel and 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Bertha Hockenberry will officiate.

Carl Blankenship
Carl Richard Blankenship, 32, of Barrenshee, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 2, 2004, at his home.
Born July 26, 1971, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of Carl H. Blankenship and Linda Sue Prater Blankenship, both of Barrenshee, Kentucky He was a disabled machinist.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Drewey and Sadie Prater and his paternal grandparents, Eva and Alex Blankenship; and one brother, Todd Allen Blankenship.
Surviving are his wife, Melissa Mayhorn Blankenship; son, Jordan Todd Blankenship of Freeburn, Kentucky; daughters, Amber Dawn and Ashley Nichole Blankenship, both of Bland, Va.; sisters, Misty Mounts (Michael) of Barrenshee, Kentucky, and Carla Johnson (billy) of Madison, W. Va.; nephews, Chad Michael Mounts of Barrenshee, Kentucky, Colby Allen Blankenship of Madison, W. Va. and C. J. Johnson of Madison, W. Va.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 5, 2004, 12 noon, at Phelps Funeral Services Chapel with Revs. Bobby Dale Wolford, Doug Maynard and Roger Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Family cemetery at Barrenshee, Kentucky Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will begin Saturday, January 3, 2004, at 6 p.m., at the chapel with services nightly at 7 p.m.

Ray L. Huffman, 83, of Regina, Kentucky, died on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky
Funeral services will be at 11:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at the Justice Funeral Home in Pikeville, Kentucky with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young cemetery at East Shelbiana, Kentucky DAV rites will be conducted.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 22, at the funeral home with special services at 7 p.m. each night.
Jimmy D. Blackburn
Jimmy Dean Blackburn, 65, of Hardy, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, Kentucky
Born April 20, 1938, in Pike County, Kentucky, he was a son of Virginia Childers Blackburn of Hardy and the late Lacy Blackburn.
Jimmy was a disabled fleet worker for Goodyear Inc. and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church, Belfry, Kentucky, and attended the Hardy Church of Christ, Hardy.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Baker Blackburn; two sons, Michael (Beth) Cron of Monsey, N.Y., and Jason Blackburn of Hardy; three daughters, Stephanie Cron of Sloatsburg, N.Y., Leigh Ann Wells (Chuck Ray) of Williamson and Terry (Paul) Mills of Hardy; three brothers, Robert (Edie) Blackburn of Chapmanville, W.Va., Larry (Debbie) Blackburn of Hardy and Eddie (Vickie) Blackburn of Huddy, Kentucky; one sister, Phyllis (Ronnie) Mosher of Wellington, Ohio; two grandsons, Matthew Mills and John Thomas Mills of Hardy; four nieces, Judy (David) Nunez, Lisa (Donnie) Bliss and Rhonda (Andrew) Lara, all of Wellington, and Brandy (Scott) Brown of Hardy; and three nephews, Chris Blackburn of Hardy and Bart and Bobby Blackburn, both of Huddy.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004 at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Belfry, Kentucky, with Ed Lockard officiating.
Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Lockard, Jonathan Lockard, Scott Brown, Chris Blackburn, Bart Blackburn and Bobby Blackburn.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at the funeral home chapel. Belfry Chapter #141 DAV will conduct graveside services.

Rev. Marcus Wells
Rev. Marcus Wells, 79, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Inez, Kentucky, passed away Monday, January 19, 2004, in Dayton.
He was born June 4, 1924.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2004, 1 p.m., at Sulphur Springs United Baptist Church, Tomahawk, Kentucky
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Bobby Bevins
Bobby Gene (BB) Bevins, 73, of Meta, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2004.
Born September 15, 1930, in Pike County, Kentucky to the late Forrest and Hazel Blackburn Bevins, he was a retired coal truck driver. Mr. Bevins was a veteran of the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Fay Bevins and Mary Lou Hatmaker; and a brother, James Lee Bevins.
Surviving are his brother and sisters, Doug (Judy) Bevins of Meta, Kentucky, Eunie (Mrs. Robert) Ward of Kimper, Kentucky and Joyce Bevins of Meta, Kentucky
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2004, 11 a.m., at Community Funeral Home, Zebulon Hwy., Pikeville, Kentucky with Church of Christ ministers officiating. Burial will follow at Bent Ridge cemetery, Meta, Kentucky
Visitation will be held Thursday after 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Danny Leedy
Danny Wayne Leedy, 29, of Frankfort, Kentucky, formerly of McAndrews, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2004, at Frankfort, Kentucky
Born July 14, 1974, in Pike County, Kentucky, he was the son of Wayne Leedy and Shirley Leedy of McAndrews. He was also the son of Pamela Leedy of Frankfort, Kentucky and Maynard Coleman of Kimper, Kentucky He was a welder for Arvin Meritor Co. in Frankfort, Kentucky and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his special son, Matthew Woodward; brothers, Morgan Brooks of Frankfort, Kentucky, J.R. Coleman of Lexington, Kentucky and Ryan Coleman of Kimper, Kentucky; sisters, Christina (Dwayne) Bailey of Kimper, Kentucky, Beverly (Greg) Farley of McAndrews, Kentucky and Rhonda (Dale) Treen of Middleburg, Fla.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2004, 2 p.m., at Rogers Funeral Home with Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky
Serving as pallbearers are Ed Carroll, Steve Neat, Christopher Bailey, Edward Chapman, Bruce Chapman and Charlie Treen.
