Erma Bartley
Erma Gladys Bartley, 92, of South Mayo Trail, Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away at her Home Thursday, May 27, 2004, after a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at the Justice Funeral Home, South Mayo Trail, Pikeville, at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 29, 2004 with Bob Norman officiating. Burial will follow at the Johnson Memorial Park.
Visitation will be at Justice Funeral Home after 5 p.m. Thursday.
Fannie Casey
Fannie May Ball Casey, 76, of Phelps, Kentucky, died on Saturday, May 8, 2004, at her residence.
She was born on Feb. 6, 1928, in McAndrews, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Fred and Nancy Jane May. She was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Casey; two children; and one brother.
Mrs. Casey is survived by sons, Leroy (Berdie) Ball of Russell Springs, Kentucky, Bill (Sharon) Ball of Wellington, Kentucky, Buddy (Merry) Casey of Cynthiana, Kentucky, Jimmy Casey and a special son Terry Ball, both of Phelps, Kentucky, and Ancie (Vanessa) Casey of Kimper, Kentucky; daughters, Betty Kirkpatrick, Linda (Ronnie) Skeens and Joann (Scott) Murray, all of Phelps, Nancy (Kyle) of New Vienna, Ohio, and Lena (Paul) Smith of Cynthiana; sisters, Ann Winters of Florida, Betty Smith and Fonnie Workman, both of West Virginia; 22 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, May, 11, 2004, at the Phelps Funeral Services chapel with the Revs. Opie Harris, Paul Varney and Richard McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey Family cemetery at Smith Fork, Phelps.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Skeens, Terry Ball, Scott Murray, Terry Thorpe, Mark Smith and a special grandson C.H. Smith.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 9, at the funeral home with special services nightly at 7 p.m.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps Funeral Services.

Phyllis Chaney, of Peytons Creek Road, Pikeville, Kentucky, died on Saturday, May 8, 2004.

Shelia Hardin
Shelia Joann Hardin, 41, of Inez, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at her residence.
Born June 21, 1962 in Columbus, Ohio, to Joann Hardin of Inez, Kentucky and the late John W. Hardin, she was a school psychologist. She was a member of the Inez Church of Christ and a graduate of Eastern University with a masters and a Rank I.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, William Harvey and Nolis (Applejack) Hardin and Leonard and Grace Bowen.
Surviving are her sister, Michelle Hardin McCoy and Johnny McCoy of Inez, Kentucky; two nieces, Bethany Ann McCoy and Kara Lynn McCoy; one nephew, Justin Michael McCoy; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 28, 2004, 1 p.m., at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Kentucky with James Maynard officiating.
Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Thursday at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Kentucky

Ralph D. Hogston, 73, of Belcher, Kentucky, passed away Friday, May 7, 2004, at Pikeville Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, May 9, 2004, 1 p.m., at Annie E. Young cemetery, E. Shelbiana, Kentucky with entombment at J.U. Thacker Memorial Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Bailey Funeral Home, from 6 - 10 p.m.

Rittie Casey
Rittie Casey, age 82, of Phelps, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2004, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky
She was born August 15, 1921, in Pike County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Richard and Nancy Jane Daugherty Casey.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Laura Wolford; brothers, Burbage and John Casey; and sisters, Beulah Casey and Hazel Wolford.
She was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruby Wolford of Phelps, Kentucky; sons, Willard Casey, Robert S. (Princie) Casey, Carl W. (Betty) Casey all of Phelps, Kentucky, John Henry Casey of Matewan, W.Va.; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 20, 2004, 2:30 p.m. at the Jamboree Church of God with Rev. Willie Gordon and Rev. Muncy Lester officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey Family cemetery at Phelps.
Visitation will be held after 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the church with services nightly at 7 p.m.

Leonila Verdida
Leonila M. Verdida, 84, of Hardy, Kentucky, formerly of the Philippines, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Skilled Nursing Facility of the Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born January 17, 1920, in Mabolo, Cebu City, Philippines, to the late Tereso Macasero and Filomena Macasero, she was a retired elementary school teacher. Mrs. Verdida was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Williamson, W. Va.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eulalio Verdida; two sisters; and one brother.
Surviving are her son, Eddie (Emogene) Verdida of Hardy, Kentucky; one sisters, Consolacion Salera of Mabolo Cebu City, Philippines; and three grandchildren, Jake, Philipp and Stephanie Verdida.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 27, 2004, 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Williamson, W.Va. with Father David Glockner. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher, W.Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Wednesday at Rogers Funeral Home.

Judy Sincell
Judy Sincell, 70, of Phelps, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at the Pikeville Medical Center.
Born October 31, 1933, in Phelps, Kentucky to the late Johnny Wolford and Annie Dotson Wolford, she was a homemaker. Mrs, Sincell was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Pete Jr. Sincell; daughter, Sue Sincell; stepdaughter, Carol Jean Chapman; on brother; four sisters; and one great grandson.
Surviving are her sons, Freddie, Danny and Gary Sincell, all of Phelps, Kentucky; step son, Harold Sincell f Louisa, Kentucky; sisters, Gracie Ellis of Pikeville, Kentucky, and Rita Stell of Freeburn, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 9, 2004, 12 noon, at Gooslin Bottom Pentecostal Church with Revs. Benny Freeman and Barry Abshire officiating. Burial will follow at Sincell Family cemetery at Bones Branch of Phelps, Kentucky Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will begin Friday, May 7, 2004, at 6 p.m., at the church with services nightly at 7 p.m.

Gary Francisco, 53, of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at Pikeville Medical Center.

Rusty Drake
Russell M. "Rusty" Drake, 40, of Glasgow, Kentucky, formerly of Toler, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2004, at his home. Mr. Drake was preceded in death by his father, Russell M. Drake, Sr.
He was employed with the U.S. Government National Park Services at Mammouth Cave National Park. He was a Christian and a member of the Temple Baptist Church of Glasgow. He was a six year veteran of the U.S. Army and a 1982 graduate of Belfry High School.
He is survived by his biological mother, Mary Jones of Winchester; his mother, Edna Drake of Toler, Kentucky; wife, Bobbi Jean Fish Drake of Glasgow, Kentucky; son, Alexander Glen Drake of Glasgow, Kentucky; brothers, Mike Drake of Orlando, Fla. and Dennis "Denny" Horn of Front Royal, Va.; sister, Kelli Drake of Paola, Kan.
At Rusty's request, his body has been donated to Cancer Research Science. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Mammouth Cave National Park.

Deborah Aaron
Deborah Kay Aaron, 48, of Forest Hills, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born August 30, 1955, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Edmond Gene Blackburn and Ruby Lois Blackburn. She was a medical secretary for Dr. Shafer and formerly worked at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. She was a member of Belfry First Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Roland Dean Aaron; daughters, Amanda Ruth Gauze of South Williamson, Kentucky and Jennifer Grace Aaron of the home in Forest Hills, Kentucky; brother, Keith Blackburn of Forest Hills, Kentucky; sisters, Sandy (Jim) Virse of Georgetown, Kentucky and Bobbie Blackburn of Georgetown, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Kayla, Stephanie and Ruby Jada Gauze; and special friend, Kay Hatfield.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 16, 2004, 2 p.m., at Rogers Funeral Home with Elder Jerry McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky Her family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday night at the funeral home.

Leonila M. Verdida, 84, of Hardy, Kentucky, formerly of the Philippines, passed away Sunday evening, May 23, 2004, in the Skilled Nursing Facility of the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.

James Estep
James Estep, 83, of New Tazewell, Tenn., formerly of Phelps, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Laurel Manor Nursing Home.
Born March 12, 1921, in Jamboree, Kentucky, to the late Frank Estep and Ada Crockett Estep, he was a coal miner. Mr. Estep was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and of the Protestant faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dock, Douglas, Don, Sidney and Franklin Jr. Estep.
Surviving are his sons, Delmer Estep of Palestine, Ind. and Frank P. Estep of Palestine, Ind.; daughters, Norma Jean Watkins of Palestine, Ind. and Kathryn Shuey of Rochester, Ind.; sister, Nora Conn and Silvia Wood; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 27, 2004, 11 a.m., at R.S. Jones Chapel with Rev. Willie Gordon and Rev. Muncie Lester officiating. Burial will follow at the Estep cemetery, Jamboree, Kentucky

Bonnie Dotson
Bonnie Sue Dotson, 52, of Phelps, Kentucky, died on Sunday, May 23, 2004, at her residence.
She was born on Feb. 28, 1952, in Matewan, a daughter of Bertha Wolford Dotson and the late Harold Dotson.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one brother, Dusty Dean Dotson.
Along with her mother, she is survived by one brother, Teddy Ray Dotson of Phelps; and two sisters, Wanda L. Dotson of Columbus, Ohio, and Cathy Lynn Bentley of Lake Wells, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at the Phelps Funeral Services in Phelps with the Rev. Opie Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Wolford cemetery in Phelps.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., Monday, May 24, at the funeral home.
