Sarah Syck
Sarah Katherine May Syck, 78, of Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2005, at Pikeville Medical Center.
Born October 3, 1926, in Floyd Co., Kentucky, to the late Vada Adkins May and Robert Lee May, she was a clerk in Shorts Drug Store and Dr. Howell Drug Store. She was a member of Burning Springs Old Regular Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Daniel Syck, who passed away March 14, 2004; and two brothers, Noah Bertley May and Ola Lee May.
Surviving are her five sons, Gary Davis (Judy) Snodgrass of Maysville, Kentucky, Danny Keith (Barbara) Syck of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, Robert David (Rubestine) Syck of Pikeville, Kentucky, Oscar Thomas (Jennifer) Syck of Pikeville, Kentucky and Jeffery Dale (Laura) Syck of Pikeville, Kentucky; two daughters, Deborah Lynn McCoy of Pikeville, Kentucky and Joyce Ann (J.R.) Taylor of Pikeville, Kentucky; sister, Jeanette Chaney of Oliver Springs, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law, Betty May and Alice Syck; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great- grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2005, 11 a.m., at Burning Springs Old Regular Baptist Church with Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow at Syck-Stratton cemetery, Burning Fork Road.
Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Burning Springs Old Regular Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Burning Springs Old Regular Baptist Church.

Mildred Green Ratliff, 87, of Jamestown, Tenn., formerly of Draffin, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2005, at Jamestown, Tenn.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2005, 11 a.m., at Little Pond Old Regular Baptist Church, Draffin, Kentucky, with burial following at Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville, Kentucky
Visitation was held Monday evening at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel.

Kelsie Rowe Lester, 84, of Belcher, Kentucky, died Saturday, January 8, 2005, in Pikeville Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, January 10, 2005, at the Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City, Kentucky Burial will follow in the Hackney-Lester cemetery at Belcher, Kentucky
George Stepp
George Wendell Stepp, 63, of Inez, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2005, at his residence.
He was born March 29, 1941, in Charleston, W.Va. He attended the Freedom Freewill Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 28, 2005, 1 p.m., at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez Chapel. Visitation will be after 8 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Landon Norman Jr.
Landon "Buddy" Norman, Jr., age 55, of Edgefield, S.C., entered into rest on Wednesday morning, January 12, 2005, at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga. A native of Thacker, W.Va., he had resided in Augusta, Grovetown and Edgefield, S.C. area since moving from Washington State, with his military appointment to Fort Gordon in 1975.
Mr. Norman had retired in 1989, from the U.S. Army at Fort Gordon at the rank of E-8 First Sergeant. During his 23 years of active duty, he served three tours of duty in Vietnam. His last 10 years of enlistment at Fort Gordon; he worked as an Instructor with the Signal Corps.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Landon "Doc" Norman, Sr. and Oma Warf Norman; two brothers, Emmanuel and Mack; and four sisters, Georgia, Faye, Shirley and Ruby.
The loving grandfather is survived by three sons, Landon Norman III, Grovetown, Ga., Greg Norman of Augusta, Ga. and Joey Norman of Morristown, Tenn.; their mother, Nyoka Wells of Augusta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Hollie, Hunter, Brandy, Jaylyn and Jaynae Norman; friend and companion, Terri Morgan; two brothers, Henry and Denver; six sisters, Lora, Barbara, Janice, Patricia, Tina and Judith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12 - 2 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2005, at the R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, Phelps, Kentucky
Betty Goff
Betty Jane Daniels Goff, 69, of South Williamson, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at her residence.
Born November 11, 1935, in Williamson, W.Va. to the late Harrison Daniels and Minnie Murphy Plaster, she was employed by the Pike County Board of Education as a cook and formerly worked at Maloney's Department Store at Goody, Kentucky She was a member of Sharondale Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Granville Goff.
Surviving are her sons, Randall (Sarah) Goff of Canada, Kentucky, Richard (Libby) Goff of Huddy, Kentucky and Sidney (Wanda) Plaster of Phelps, Kentucky; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and caregiver and special friend, Martha Webb of South Williamson, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 8, 2005, 1 p.m., at Sharondale Church of Christ with Bob Werntz officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky Men of the church will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Rogers Funeral Home and the body will lie in state from 12 noon until 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Special services will be held Friday evening at 7 p.m.

Patricia Wides
Patricia Ann Dotson (Marinaro) Wides, 65, of Lexington, Kentucky, completed her journey to be with God on January 3, 2005 in Orlando, FL, after celebrating the Christmas holidays with her family.
She was born on Jan. 14, 1939 in Phelps, Kentucky, to Lula Reedy Dotson and James Lewis Dotson. Her loving nature and priceless sense of humor brightened the lives of her family and all those who couldn't help but love her.
Pat is survived by her four adoring daughters, Teresa (Terri) Marinaro of Orlando, FL, Jeanne M. Sallee of Lexington, Joanne Marinaro of Huntersville, NC, Christina (Chris) Auerbach of Casselberry, FL, and by her seven grandchildren.
Memorial service will be on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of Christ the King, 299 Colony Blvd., Lexington.
Visitation with her family will be on Friday, Jan. 7 from 6-8 p.m. in Hehman Hall at the Cathedral, with a brief prayer service and sharing of stories at 7 p.m.. John Burgess
John Langley Burgess, 71, of Piso Road, Varney, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at U.K. Medical Center.
Born March 15, 1933, in Pike County, Kentucky, to the late Freel Burgess and Elizabeth Burgess, he was a retired coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Joseph J. Caines and Roger D. Caines.
Surviving are his wife, Goldie "Clevinger" Burgess of Piso Road, Varney, Kentucky; son, Walter B. Caines of Tennessee; daughter, Janet Toll of Nyles, Mich.; brother, Ben Burgess of Millers Creek, Pikeville, Kentucky; sisters, Geineve Hall of Kentucky and Ruth O'dell of Cleveland, Ohio; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 15, 2005, 11 a.m., at Piso Freewill Baptist Church with Bill Maynard, Bobby Mullins and Johnny M. Caines officiating. Burial will follow at the Caines Family cemetery, Brushy Road, Varney, Kentucky

Bertha Booth
Bertha Mills Booth was born January 28, 1913 and died Wednesday, January 12, 2005. She was the daughter of John and Luna Hammond Mills of Martin County, Kentucky
Mrs. Booth was the widow of Sheridan Booth, who died January 18, 1985 after more than 50 years of marriage.
She is survived by sisters, Eunice Copley of Dayton, Ohio and Stella Sexton of Louisa, Kentucky
Preceding her in death is a daughter, Oralee Alberta; brothers, Lawrence Mills and Billy Lee Mills; and sister, Georgia Griffith; and a grandson, Dennis Brandon Booth.
Mrs. Booth leaves behind seven children and their spouses, Don and Thelma Booth, Morris and Joann Booth, Peggy and the late Orville Blankenship, Joyce and Dick Ferris, Sheridan Jr. and Carol Booth, Jim and Linda Booth, and Karen and Bill Harvey; thirteen grandchildren, Dena Booth, Leslee Both, Jonathan Booth, Alison Booth, Mary Ann Dyer, Tommy (Tammy) Booth, Jill (Michael) Rambo, Angie (Jeff) Fraley, Amy (R.D.) Hall, Andrea (Ryan) Wilson, Wesley Booth, Jennifer (Jason) Hutchinson, and Stuart Blankenship; and two great grandchildren, Nichole, Carla and Cassie Booth, Alyssa Dyer, Brooke, Blake and Blair Fraley, Holden and Chloe Hall and Peyton Riley Hutchinson.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday and Friday evenings, 6 - 9 p.m. The memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Inez First Baptist Church with Jason Hutchinson and Paul Schmidt officiating.

Bertha Booth, 91, of Inez, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sheridan Booth, Sr..
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 15, 2005, 1 p.m., at Inez First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held Thursday and Friday, 6 - 9 p.m., at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Kentucky
Kennis Rife
Kennis Andrew Rife, 65, of the Upper Elk Section of Stopover, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2005 following a brief illness.
Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Bud and Merty Hurley Rife.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Rife was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ariel Jane Beard; a sister, Ermal Hunt; seven brothers, Ernest Rife; Hobert Rife; Charlie Rife; Luke Rife; Estel Rife; Willie Rife and Walter Rife.
He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Rife was a retired truck driver and the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include: two daughters, Cheryl (Bryan) James of Charlotte, N.C. and Wanda (Ralph) Beard of Castlewood, Va.; one son, Don Freeman of Elgin, Ill.; six grandchildren, Danny Joe Freeman; Brandon Freeman; Colton Freeman; Kyle James, Carly James and Kane Beard.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at the Stopover Freewill Baptist Church, Stopover, Kentucky with ministers Larry Rife and Harold Layne officiating.
Burial will follow in the Rife cemetery on Upper Elk Creek near Stopover, Kentucky
Family members and friends will serve as active pallbearers.
Friends may call at the Stopover Freewill Baptist Church after 2 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2005. Special services will be conducted at 7 p.m.
