Robert Allen
Robert M. Allen, 86, of Tomahawk, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at his residence.
He was born on Sept. 23, 1917, Martin County, Kentucky, to the late Martin Rice and Stella Brown Allen. He was a retired school administrator. He was a member of the Marion Hale Lodge.
He was the husband of Jane Robinson Allen who also died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004.
In addition to his parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Allen, Brown Allen and William Allen; and two sisters, Lucille Cornette and Alice Davis.
He is survived by one Robert M. Allen of Inez, Kentucky; one daughter, Mary Jo Brown of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one sister, Marcella Burgess of Fort Myers, Fla.; and one granddaughter, Betsy Allen of Inez.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, with the Rev. Paul Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in the Saltwell cemetery, Inez.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 12, at the funeral home.
Josephine Maynard
Josephine Blackburn Maynard, 77, of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center in Phelps, Kentucky
She was born on Dec. 22, 1926, in Moree, Kentucky, to the late Dyke and Ora McCoy Blackburn. She was retired cook with the Veterans' Administration hospital system and a member of the Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Rex A. Maynard; three brothers, Tommy Blackburn, Wendel Blackburn and Virgil Blackburn; four sisters, Alice Williamson, Wildie Taylor, Mary Belle Tiller and Mae Blackburn; and one grandson, Larry D. Maynard.
She is survived by her husband, Ollie "Buster" Maynard; two sons, Larry Maynard of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Jack Maynard of Turkey Creek; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky, with Ed May officiating. Burial will follow in the Runyon-Maynard cemetery, Piso, Kentucky
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 12, and Friday, Aug. 13, at the funeral home.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.
Vernon Moore
Vernon Moore, 92, Dingess, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky
He was born on June 12, 1912, in West Virginia to the late Flem and Rebecca Moore. He was a retired coal miner.
Mr. Moore is survived by a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon, Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at the Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Dingess with the Revs. Bobby Moore and Johnny Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Sturgill cemetery, Kermit.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, until the time of services on Friday at the church.

Jane Allen
Jane Robinson Allen, 79, of Tomahawk, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Paintsville, Kentucky, to the late Marcus Homer and Virgie Preston Robinson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Inez First Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was the wife of Robert M. Allen who also died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer Preston Robinson and John Paul Robinson.
She is survived by one Robert M. Allen of Inez, Kentucky; one daughter, Mary Jo Brown of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and one granddaughter, Betsy Allen of Inez.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, with the Rev. Paul Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in the Saltwell cemetery, Inez.

Julius Marcum
Julius Marcum, 74, of Louisa, Kentucky, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at the Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa.
He was born in Lawrence County, Kentucky, on Sept. 19, 1929, a son of the late James and Minnie Marcum. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the United Baptist faith.
Mr. Marcum is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Marcum; five sons, Donald Marcum of Inez, Kentucky, and Ray Marcum, Joe Marcum, James Marcum and Junior Marcum, all of Louisa; and daughters, Rosie Lee Hale of Inez, Emma Yates of Gainesville, Fla., and Kathy Ann Marcum of Kermit.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at the New Friendship Church, Louisa, with Brumley Marcum, Sterling Marcum and Doc Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in the Marcum cemetery, Louisa.
Visitation will after 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 2, at the church.

Robert Blackburn
Robert Clay Blackburn, 46, of Orange Beach, Ala., died.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at the Annie E. Young cemetery, Pikeville, Kentucky, with Frank Crum officiating.
Visitation will be held at Thacker Memorial Funeral Home, Pikeville, beginning at 1 p.m., Thursday.
Leatrice McCoy
Leatrice Joy McCoy, 66, of Hardy, Kentucky, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, in Williamson Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 5, 1938, at Williamson, she was a daughter of the late Thurman Alan and Kathleen O'Conner Massie.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by husband, Clarence "Buddy" McCoy; daughter, Marlene McCoy and sisters, Violet West and Jean Concord.
She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by sons, Charley (Stephanie) McCoy of South Williamson, Kentucky, Craig McCoy of Hardy, Kentucky, Christopher (Misty) McCoy of Lewisburg, W.Va., Rudy (Millie) Vass of Forest Hills, Kentucky; daughters, Marydea (John) Stanley of Hardy, Kentucky, Kiki (Tyne) Bentley of Stone, Kentucky; brothers, Thurman Massie of Oklahoma, Jack Massie of Louisiana, Roger Massie of Borderland, W.Va.; sisters, Peggy Webb of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, Tina Young of Columbus, Ohio; and nine grandchildren, Derek McCoy, Camila Stanley, Corey Stanley, Cydney McCoy, Carlie McCoy, Wesley Stanley, Alex Vass, K.C. Bentley and Whitney Helton.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky, with Franklin Mounts officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Kentucky
Pallbearers will be Keith Thomas, Paul Michael Thomas, Stephen Massie, Scott Massie, Mike Goff, Paul Mills and Tim Mounts.

Herman Ratliff
Herman Ratliff, 92, of Elkhorn Creek Road, Ashcamp, Kentucky, died Tuesday, Aug. 10. 2004, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at the Lick Creek Holiness Church of God. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young cemetery at E. Shelbiana, Kentucky D.A.V. rites will be performed by Chapter 140 of Elkhorn City.
Visitation will be held after 6 p.m., Tuesday at the Lick Creek Holiness Church of God.

Grover Fannin
Grover Cleveland "Sheriff Cleve" Fannin, 87, of East Bank, departed this life, Friday, July 30, 2004, at his home.
He was born Jan. 28, 1917, at Martin County, Kentucky, a son of the late Joshua "Dot" and Rachel Perry Fannin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Brooksie Boggs Fannin; three brothers, Elmer, Ernest, and Carl Fannin; three sisters, Estelle Fannin Miller, Cynthia Fannin Dobbs, and Obera Fannin Hurley.
He retired from Appalachian Power Co., where he was an insulator. He was also a licensed barber, having worked in Charleston; He was a store manager for Valley Camp at Kelley's Creek.
He was a member of Hampton Baptist Church at East Bank. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, and a member of the Chelyan Masonic Lodge No. 158 AF&AM.
Survivors include his devoted caregivers, Connie Bradley and Guy Jeffrey, both of East Bank; nephews, the Rev. Carl Fannin of Ohio, David and Larry Hurley of Williamson, Darrell Dobbs of Michigan, Ted Miller of Arizona, Bert Miller of Mississippi; nieces, Ernie Garvin of Kentucky, Gail Napier of Tennessee and Nina Letanosky of Kentucky.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at the Hampton Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Toler officiating.
Burial will follow in Green Lawn cemetery at Louisa, Kentucky

Landon Stiltner
Landon Stiltner, 74, of Phelps, Kentucky, departed this life to me the Lord, Friday, July 30, 2004, at Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky
He was born Sept. 25, 1929, at Phelps, a son of the late Ira and Sarah Stumbo Stiltner.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Abigail; two granddaughters, Casondra Stiltner and Candace Brooke; two brothers, Earnest and Eugene; one sister, Della Rae Stiltner; paternal grandparents, Fred and Margaret Stiltner; maternal grandparents, Ben and Virginia Stumbo.
He was a retired coal miner and was a dedicated member of the Phelps Freewill Baptist Church where he was a member for over 30 years and served as a deacon for the past 27 years.
Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Georgia Ann Wolford Stiltner, of Phelps; three sons, Randall (Sharon) Stiltner, Bobby (Ann) Stiltner; and Craig Stiltner, all of Phelps; two daughters, Diana (Donald) Pancake and Anita (Clayton) Eldridge, both of Phelps; three sisters, Margie Jackson of Williamson, Pauline (Roy) Coleman of VanSant, Va., and Irene (Otis) Hagerman of Bradshaw; special friend, Lacey Ferrell of Phelps; host of nieces, loved ones, neighbors and friends; host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at Phelps Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Delbert Hurley, the Rev. Roger Blackburn and the Rev. Clyde Bowman officiating.
Burial will follow in Davidson Memorial Garden at Ivel, Kentucky
Pallbearers will be Robbie Mahon, Darrell Wolford, Donald Pancake, Randall Hurley, Clayton Eldridge and Paul Ray Charles.

Leonard Gearles
Leonard Gearles, 87, of Freeburn, Kentucky, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky
He was born May 2, 1917, at Vinton, Va., a son of the late Jessie Mary Hurley Gearles.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, Jessie Lee Gearles and Howard Gearles; two daughters, Von Gearles and Laura Norman.
He was a retired coal miner.
Survivors include: his ex-wife, Carrie Chapman; two daughters, Alice Eldridge of Tennessee and Lillian (Rabon) Wolford of Louisa, Kentucky; three sisters, Georgia Blankenship of Freeburn, Wilma Runyon of Phelps, Kentucky, and Clara Gearles of Dallas, Texas; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Eagle's Nest House of Prayer at Barrenshee, Kentucky, with the Rev. Darius Casey and Wheeler Blankenship officiating.
Burial will follow in Freeburn cemetery at Barn Hollow of Freeburn.
Friends may call at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at the church with services at 7 p.m.
