Virgil Ferrell
Virgil Ferrell, 65, of Phelps, Kentucky, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born June 29, 1936, at Pikeville, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Malon and Didenia Damron Ferrell.
He was a boiler maker, Army veteran, and a member of the Phelps Free Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Dotson Ferrell; a daughter, Mary Hensley of Phelps; three brothers, Randall Ferrell of Port Deposit, Md., Elmer Ferrell of Jackson, Ohio and Jeff Ray of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister, Mary Syck of Pikeville; and a granddaughter, Kearstin Hensley.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the Phelps Chapel of R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home with Rev. William Cornn officiating. Burial will follow at the Howell cemetery in Island Creek, Kentucky
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2002 at the funeral home, with special services at 7 p.m.
Loretta Phillips
Loretta "Tina" Phillips, 56, resident of J.J. Jordan Geriatric Center, Louisa, Kentucky, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002 at Three Rivers Medical Center, Louisa.
Born March 22, 1946 in Pike County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Grace Phillips of Pageland, S.C., and the late Roland Phillips.
Survivors include brothers Roger and Tommy Phillips, both of South Webster, Ohio, and James Phillips of New Boston, Ohio; and sisters Maggie Hill of Pageland, S.C., Opal Phillips of Louisa, Janice Blevins of Williamson and Genivieve Thomas of Pageland, S.C.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002 at Rogers Funeral Home with Joe Smith officiating.
Burial will follow in the family cemetery at Dials Branch, Ransom, Kentucky
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Visitation began after 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2002.

Martha Maynard
Martha Ann Maynard, 50, of Inez, Kentucky, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002 at Central Baptist Hospital.
Born Feb. 28, 1952 in Martin County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Buddy Blankenship and Lucille Thompson.
Mrs. Maynard was an employee of H&R Block and a member of the Inez Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Maynard of Inez; a son, Rodney (Lenita) Maynard of Georgetown, Kentucky; two grandsons, Ethan K. Sartin and Brent E. Sartin; a daughter, Anna L. (Chancey) Sartin of Georgetown; a brother, Ronald Blankenship of Inez; and sisters, Lynn Maynard and Karen Tramel, both of Inez.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Inez Church of Christ with James Russell Maynard officiating.
Burial will follow in the Perry cemetery, Beauty, Kentucky
Visitation will be held at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez Chapel, on Monday and Tuesday after 6 p.m.

James Slater Jr.
James (Jim) Slater Jr., 80, of Aflex, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 1, 1921, in Williamson, a son of the late James and Elizabeth Francis Slater.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Booten Slater; one brother, William (Bill) Slater; and one sister, Shirley Harker.
He was a retired foreman from Eastern Coal Company and after retirement, Jim was a salesman for the Moore Auto Group.
A veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II, Jim was a member of the Aflex Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years.
Survivors include one son, James David (Cheryl) Slater of Forest Hills, Kentucky; two daughters, Anita (Ken) Reed of Aflex and Pam (Danny) Elliott of Matewan; one brother, Ken (Vida) Slater of Lubbock, Texas; five sisters, Mabel Trador, Beatrice Reynolds and Frances Kluff, all of Lake Wales, Fla., Mary Doss of Fife Lake, Mich., and Betty Eubanks of Dearborn, Mich.; five grandchildren, Paul Slater, Chad Slater, Donna (Rick) Preston, Brandon Elliott and Sean Elliott; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan Chase Maynard and Cade Matthew Slater.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Hatfield Funeral Chapel, Toler, Kentucky, with Dr. Allen Shouse and Rev. Carl Hess officiating.
Burial will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Kentucky Members of the immediate family will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation began 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at the funeral home.

Jonah Bevins (J.B.) Trout, 85, of McVeigh, Kentucky, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002 at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital.

Emerson Jarrell
Emerson H. Jarrell, 91, passed away May 31, 2003. He was born in Martin County, Kentucky on January 27, 1912, son of the late Andrew and Lina (Hardin) Jarrell.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, 5665 Carleton, South Rockwood, Mich. Interment will follow at South Lyon cemetery, South Lyon, Mich.
Visitation was Sunday and Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, South Lyon, Mich.
Charles Smith
Charles Henry Smith, 62, of Russell Springs, Kentucky, formerly of Canada, Kentucky, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at the North Audubon Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky
He was born at Stone, Kentucky, on March 18, 1940, a son of the late Fannie Jane Stanley Smith.
He was a retired factory worker for Ford Motors. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Jane Stanley.
He is survived by one brother, Phillip Stanley of Canada, Kentucky, and three sisters, Lou Ellen Bunn of Canada, Kentucky, Dianna Sue Bevins of Archdale, N.C., and Betty Francis Varney of Arch Dale, N.C.
Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 7, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Rogers Funeral Home chapel in Belfry, Kentucky Brother Dennis Smith and others will officiate. Burial will be in the Trout-Smith cemetery at Stone. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, and Friday, Dec. 6, with special services each night at 7 p.m.
Madgie Hylton
Madgie Marie Puckett Hylton, 80, of Ashcamp, Kentucky, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 8, 2002, at the Sulpher Springs Regular Baptist Church at Elkhorn City, Kentucky Burial will be in the Elkhorn City cemetery.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. at the church.

Juanita Deskins
Juanita Deskins, 75, of Belfry, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, Kentucky
She was born June 9, 1927, in Sharondale, Kentucky, to the late Thomas Varney and Nancy Varney. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Pond Primitive Baptist Church for 40 years.
She is survived by her husband, Bryan Deskins; one son, Kenneth Bryan (Lori) Deskins of Turkey Creek, Kentucky; one daughter, Sandra Kaye (Charley) Myers of Turkey Creek, Kentucky; one brother, Elbert Glen Varney of Romulus, Mi.; two sisters, Dora Lee Johnson of Galion, Ohio and Vida Fern Richardson of Newark, Delaware; four grandchildren, Shane Myers, Bryana, Kendra and Dalton Deskins; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2003, 11 a.m., at Rogers Funeral Home with Primitive Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Deskins cemetery in Meta, Kentucky
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Rogers Funeral Home with special services at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

John Ferguson
John Louis Ferguson Sr., 61, passed away in Northern Southwest Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, with family and friends by his side at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003.
He was a native of Williamson, W.Va., born on Sept. 25, 1942. He is preceded in death by parents Beulah York New and Tommy Ferguson; brothers Author Hatfield and Darrell Ferguson.
Survivors include wife Aline Ferguson and ex-wife Dorothy McCoy; daughters Brenda Lee Ferguson-Sebastian and Michelle "Micki" Hiser; sons John Louis Ferguson Jr. (Lori) and Cecil Ferguson; stepdaughters Cathy Morin, Teresa Zabouli and Pam Francis; brothers Rich-ard Ferguson, Tommy Ferguson Jr., Douglas Eugene Ferguson, Jimmy Stamperd, and Donnie New; sisters Becky Maynard, Ethel Spradlin, Sharon Mullins, Sheila Elkins and Cathy Cau-dill; grandchildren Ma-rinda Ferguson, Hanna Ferguson, Russell Fer-guson, Megan Ann Ferguson, Cecil Fer-guson Jr., and Tabbie Hiser.
Funeral services were held at Owens Funeral Home in Louisville, Kentucky, at 1 p.m. on Oct. 3, 2003 with following burial in Bethany cemetery.
Pricie Lucas
Pricie Irene Lucas, 63, of Dix Fork, Sidney, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2003, at St. Joe Hospice Care Center, Lexington, Kentucky
Born November 3, 1939, in Canada, Kentucky, to the late Thomas J. May and Goldie Murphy May, she and her late husband, Lester Lucas, owned and operated the Fashion Care Center at Sidney.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kimberly Lucas and a sister, Ruby N. Johnson.
Surviving are her daughter, Karen Sue Lucas of Lexington, Kentucky; brothers, Estil May of Kenova, W. Va. and Harold May of Canal Winchester, Ohio; sisters, Joann Maynard of Stone, Kentucky and Donna Webb of Sidney, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2003, 1 p.m., at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Rick Gannon officiating. Interment will follow at May cemetery at Dix Fork, Sidney, Kentucky Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Dr., Lexington, Kentucky 40504.

Carl B. Maynard
Carl B. Maynard, 77, of Phelps, Kentucky went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 5, 2003.
Born March 30, 1926 in Pike County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Dave and Virginia Dotson Maynard.
He was also preceded in death by an infant son, James Edward Maynard; an infant daughter, Lois Maynard; brothers, Bryson, Sid, Leonard and Bill Maynard; and sisters Vera, Mary, Virgie and Stella.
He was a member of the Gooslin Pentecostal Church of God and Local Union # 1511.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Mary Barker Maynard of Phelps, Kentucky, a son, Larry (Delores) Maynard Sr. of Phelps, Kentucky; a daughter, Joyce (James) Layne of Church Hill, Tenn.: four grandchildren, Larry (Anita) Maynard, Jr., Steve (Crystal) Maynard, Cheston (Christie) Layne and Carla Layne; five great-grandchildren: Adrianna Layne, Trent Maynard, Addison Maynard, Baby Layne and Tyler Nelson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2003, 1 p.m., at the Gooslin Bottom Pentecostal Church of God with ministers Benny Freeman, Ron Chapman, Alex Fields, Jr. and Rev. Doug Maynard officiating.
Entombment will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Huddy, KY.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October, 6, 2003, at the church with services nightly at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for the Gooslin Bottom Pentecostal Church of God.

Alfred Prater
Alfred Prater, of Harrison, Del., passed away March 5, 2004.
He was born August 8, 1953, at Woodman, Kentucky to the late Opal and Harman Prater. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Harold Prater.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; two children; two grandchildren; sister, Joyce Prater Hammack of Maysville, Kentucky
