William Murphy
William McAdoo Murphy, 85, of Okeechobee, Fla., formerly of Belfry, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at VA Medical Center, West Palm Beach, Fla.
Born May 27, 1918, in Tazewell, Va., to the late Johnny Murphy and Hettie Runyon Murphy, he was a former bus driver. He served the U.S. Army in World War II and was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Warthen.
Surviving are his wife, Nellie Opal Gillman Murphy of Okeechobee, Fla.; and sisters, Cody Wilson of Belfry, Kentucky and Frances Glasby of San Antonio, Tex.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 12, 2003, 11 a.m., at Rogers Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Dees officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky DAV rites will be formed during graveside services by DAV Belfry Chapter #141.
Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday evening.

Pauline Hackney May, 83, of McAndrews, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2003, at her residence.
Born July 2, 1920, in McAndrews, Kentucky, to the late John Hackney and Cora Mullins Hackney, she was a homemaker and member of Sharondale Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Blaine May; two brothers, Luther Hackney and Orda Hackney; and two sisters, Dora Hackney and Lena Sheppard.
Surviving are his sons, Ron B. (Shirley) May of South Williamson, Kentucky, Jon D. "J.D." (Patti) May of Sarasota, Fla. and Bruce (Pat) May of Stone, Kentucky; sister, Marie Stacy of Hillard, Ohio; special step sisters, Naomi May of Grundy, Va.; six grandchildren, Ronald B. May !!, Rhonda Williamson, Gina Justice, Denny Paul May, Stephanie Rose and Jonathan May; five great grandchildren, Morgan May, Tyler Williamson, Allison May, Blaine May and Sydney May.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 13, 2003, 2 p.m., at Rogers Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Werntz officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky
Pallbearers are Ronald B. May II, Denny Paul May, Jonathan May, Todd Williamson, Lance Rose and Barry May. Honorary pallbearers are Benny Hall, Larry Williamson, George Grimmett, David Varney, Allen DeMurray, P.C. Anderson, Larry Moses, Rod Varney and Paul Morris.

Carol Sue Coleman May, 56, of Wolfpit Rd., Elkhorn City, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2003, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 12, 2003, 1 p.m., at Rebecca Old Regular Baptist Church, Daniel's Creek, Kentucky Burial will follow at Alex Ratliff cemetery, Wolfpit, Kentucky
Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Thursday at the church with services nightly at 7 p.m.

Ruby Nowlin
Ruby Farmer Nowlin, 89, of McCarr, Kentucky, died on Thursday, July 17, 2003, at the Mingo Manor Nursing Home in Williamson.
She was born in Martin County, Kentucky, on April 14, 1914. She was a retired school teacher with the Mingo County Board of Education with 35 years of service. She was a member of the Matewan United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, member of the Matewan Women's Club, and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arch Nowlin; four brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Nowlin is survived by one son, Richard (Barbara) Nowlin of Chillicothe, Ohio; two grandchildren, Amy and Jill Nowlin; and three great grandchildren, Adam Aaron and Austin Elliott.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at the Matewan United Methodist Church with the Rev. Hal Hevener officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Matewan United Methodist Church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Chambers Funeral Home of Matewan.
Stephen C. Younger
Stephen C. Younger, 97, formerly of New Camp, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Morton Plant Hospital of Clearwater, Fla.
Of the Catholic faith, he was born in Oliver, Pa., Sept. 23, 1905.
He served for many years as safety director for the N&W Mines before moving to Florida in 1953.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Elizabeth Younger; his mother and father; two sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by six children: Stephen P. (Una) of Williamson, Joseph J. (Betty Jean) of Nicholasville, Kentucky, Eugene A (Patricia) of Hampton, Va., George M. of Clearwater, Fla., Rudolph C. (Dorie) of Madras, Ore. and Elizabeth D. (Dean) Stone of Clinton, Iowa; one brother, John P. (Helen) of Indialantic, Fla.; 19 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Interment was at the Garden of Memories, Tampa, Fla.
Clemmie Maynard
Clemmie Maynard, 74, of Elyria, Ohio, formerly of Pinsonfork, Kentucky, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at her Ohio residence.

Audra June Harmon
Audra June Harmon, 78, of Rt. 2 Delbarton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 30, 2003, at her residence/ She was surrounded by her family.
Born January 17, 1925, at Varney, WV, she was the daughter of the late Eli and Sadie Williamson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Opal Harmon; sons, Thomas Eugene Harmon and Robert Keith Harmon; brothers, Leck, Herbert, Amos, Deward and Cummins Williamson; and sisters, Carrie Perry and Mary Edna Williamson.
She was a retired bookkeeper and a member of the First Baptist Church of Varney.
She is survived by her children, Patricia Justice of Orlando, Fla., Jim and Jennifer Harmon of Dunlow, WV, Dill "Louie" and Debbie Harmon, Billy and Lesia Sammons, and Christine Harmon, all of Varney, WV. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2003, at the James Funeral Home in Logan, WV with the Rev. Bill Snodgrass and Pastor Fred Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Williamson-Carter cemetery at Varney, WV.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 6-9 p.m. A special service will be held at 7 p.m.
Grandsons and friends of the family will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be James Hatfield, Dennis Holbrook, Bob Perry, Paul Perry, Oliver Maynard and Maurice Williamson.
James Funeral Home of Logan, WV, is in charge of the arrangements.
James C. Doan
James C. Doan, age 73, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Born February 24, 1930 in Wallins Creek, Kentucky, to the late Jarvis S. and Maude (Howard) Doan, he was a 1949 graduate of Belfry High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from Capitol Die and Tool in Columbus. He was formerly employed at Celanese Co.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 50 years, Jayne; children, Duane Doan of Eau Clair, WI, Cheryl (Craig Wilson) Doan of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Brian (Jeanne) Doan of Groveport, Ohio, Alicia (Brian) Barrowman of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Mary Blackburn of Newport News, Va., Lena Ruth Scott of Columbus, Ohio, Marie Kovach of Masontown, W. Va., Kathleen Moore of Harpers Ferry, W. Va., Irene Frye of Xenia, Ohio, Margaret (Ronald) Davidson of Van Wert, Ohio, Martha (Bill) Farley of Xenia, Ohio, Linda Stewart of Fort Wayne, In.; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sister Betty McLaughlin, and brothers, Rodney Lee, Milton and Jarvis Doan, Jr.
Friends may visit from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday. Entombment will be at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens in Canal Winchester.

Ethel Mae Staton
Ethel Mae Staton, 80, of Owingsville, Kentucky, formerly of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owingsville.
Born October 23, 1922, in Pike County, Kentucky, Ethel was the daughter of the late Willie and Belle Young Bevins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Staton, one daughter and one granddaughter.
Ethel was a homemaker and attended the Regular Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Dewey Staton of Lexington, Kentucky; three daughters, Venita Grizzel of Owingsville; Iva Jean Maynard of Clovis, New Mexico; and Lou Hicks of Stanton, Ohio; eight grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, belfry, Kentucky, with Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky
Visitation will be 6-10 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at the funeral home chapel.

Janet Varney
Janet Varney, 54, of Stone, Kentucky, died on Friday, July 11, 2003, at the Cabell-Huntington (W.Va.) Hospital.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1948, to the late Joseph and Ethel Maynard Adkins. She was a homemaker and a member of the McVeigh United Pentecostal Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Varney Sr.; two sons Paul Leonard Varney and Joseph Garland Varney; one daughter, Patricia Renae Varney; two sisters, Pamela Adkins and Carolyn Sue Adkins; and two brothers Rudy Adkins and Randy Adkins.
Mrs. Varney is survived by one son, Eugene Varney Jr. of Stone; three daughters, Edwina Jean Williams and Misty Dawn Hilton, both of Stone, and Lola Carol Leedy of Hardy, Kentucky; four brothers, Ervin Adkins of Pinsonfork, Kentucky, and Jimmy Adkins, Vent Adkins and Joseph Adkins Jr., all of Fort Gay, W.Va.; one sister, Linda Lou Johnson of Fort Gay; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Monday, July 14, 2003, at the McVeigh (Kentucky) United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Joey Crum and Leslie Chapman officiating. Burial will be in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Kentucky
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at the church.

Carl Dotson
Carl Dotson, 84, of Phelps, Kentucky, died Friday, July 11, 2003, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky
He was born on May 22, 1919, in Freeburn, Kentucky, a son of the late Paris and Katherine Dotson. He was a retired coal miner, a veteran of World War II, and a member of the Jamboree Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Francis Dotson; two brothers, Brady Dotson and Earl Dotson and a special niece, Opal Jackson.
Survivors include one son, Floyd "Buddy" (Hilda) Francis of Phelps; one brother, Bradley (Loretta) Dotson of Phelps; and two special nieces, Tonia Hopson and Kathy Wolford.
Funeral services for Mr. Dotson will be at 1 p.m., Monday, July 14, 2003, at the Phelps Funeral Services' chapel in Phelps with the Revs. Willie Gordon and Marvin Casey officiating. Burial will follow in the Dotson cemetery in Phelps.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 13, at the funeral home with special services at 7 p.m.
