William P. Norman, 92, of McCarr, Kentucky, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002 at Williamson Memorial Hospital, Williamson.

Tom Scott
Tom Scott, 75, of Inez, Kentucky, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002 at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 7, 1927 in Martin County, he was a son of the late Leonard and Estie Jane Scott.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Manford Scott, and sisters Diana Young and Caldonia Scott.
Survivors include brothers Bill Scott of Pilgrim, Kentucky, and Harvey Scott of Tomahawk, Kentucky; and sisters Alice Blackburn of Inez and Inis Small of Meally, Kentucky
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez Chapel, with Clyde Waller officiating.
Burial will follow in the Blackburn cemetery, Tomahawk, Kentucky
Visitation began Tuesday and will continue Wednesday after 6 p.m. at the Inez Chapel.
Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
William Norman
William P. (Dock) Norman of McCarr, Kentucky, and Huntington, W.Va., died Tuesday, October 1, 2002 in the Williamson Memorial Hospital. Born May 15, 1910 in Pike Co., he was the son of the late Jerry and Lou Williams Norman.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jo; five brothers, Tom, Adam, Noah, Oliver and Willie; also one sister, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Stevens.
He was a beloved member of the Enon United Baptist Church, a retired coal miner and was a self-employed coal operator for many years. He was a life-long resident of Blackberry Creek, Kentucky, a good neighbor and a friend to all in need.
Survivors include a loving wife of 74 years, Maxie Farley Norman; two daughters, Emogene (Robert) Vipperman and Loretta (John) Baker, both of Huntington, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Ronald Vipperman, Brenda Rucker, Billy Vipperman and Norman Baker; nine great grandchildren, Todd and Shawn Rucker, Jodie Wright, Heather Scovel, Jeremy, Jason, Adam, Sarah Vipperman and Rebekah Baker; also six great-great grandchildren; one sister, Ettie Boyd of McCarr, Kentucky; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2002 at Rogers Funeral Home Chapel of Belfry, Kentucky, with the Rev. Jerry McCoy, Richard Damron and Walter DeHart officiating. Burial will follow in The Anderson Hatfield cemetery, McCarr, Kentucky
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the funeral home with special services at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Ronnie, Billy and Norman and great grandsons Todd, Shawn, Jason, Adam and Jeremy.
Hersel Gooslin
Hersel Gooslin, 84, of Phelps, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002 at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital in Pikeville, Kentucky
Born Nov. 12, 1917 at Freeburn, Kentucky, he was a son of the late William and Vicie Daniels Gooslin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Georgie Charles Gooslin; brother Russell Gooslin; and three sisters, Ermal Hatfield, Ruby Bentley and Essie Deboard.
He was a retired coal miner from Caney Branch Coal Co. and member of the UMWA. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Gooslin Bottom Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by his best friend, Dorothy Taylor of Phelps, Kentucky; nieces and nephews; and friends.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002 at the R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home Chapel with services nightly at 7 p.m.
Funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at the Gooslin Bottom Pentecostal Church.
Burial will follow at Johnson Memorial Park in Pikeville, Kentucky
Military rites will be performed by DAV Chapter 141 of Belfry, Kentucky
Pallbearers will be Jeff Coleman, Bobby Hatfield, Terry Hatfield, Jimmy Hatfield, Jackie Hatfield, Rick Taylor, David McCoy, Benny Hatfield, Chad Hatfield and Chris Coleman.

Orville Blankenship
Orville Blankenship, 83, of Campcreek, Kentucky, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002 at his residence.
Born Sept. 13, 1919 in Pike County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late McClellan and Minnie Coleman Blankenship.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Omen Vear Blankenship; one son, Danny Ray Blankenship; one daughter, Grace Blankenship; and a host of brothers and sisters.
Orville was a retired coal miner and of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include daughters Oakley Layne, Betty Mullins and Sabrina Dawn Sargent, all of Campcreek, Kentucky, and Vicky McCoy of Freeburn, Kentucky; sons Clell, Eugene, Billy and Ronnie Dean Blankenship, all of Campcreek, Kentucky, and Jamie Blankenship of Zebulon, Kentucky; brothers Marvin Blankenship of Tennessee and Tracy Blankenship of Campcreek, Kentucky; sisters Edna and Gladys Blankenship of Campcreek, Kentucky; 23 grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren.
Services will be Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 at the Campcreek Pentecostal Church at 1 p.m. with the Revs. Ermel Fields and Marvin Casey officiating.
Burial will follow in the Blankenship cemetery at Campcreek, Kentucky
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation began Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 at 6 p.m. at the church with services nightly beginning at 7 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Phelps Funeral Services.
Woodrow Hensley
Woodrow Wilson Hensley, 46, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away at his residence Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002. Born Aug. 13, 1956 in South Williamson, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Earsel and Ethel (Miller) Hensley.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Mayhew Funeral Home, Jackson, Ohio, with Rev. Denny Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at the funeral home.
Anthony Dotson
Anthony Dotson, 82, McCarr, Kentucky, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Kentucky
He was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Kentucky, a son of the late Johnny and Frances McClanahan Dotson.
In addition to his parents, Anthony was preceded in death by his wife, Cora McCoy Dotson, a daughter, Mary Spradlin and a grandson, Robert Goodman.
He was a retired coal miner and a veteran of US Army, having served in World War II.
Anthony is survived by three sons, Danny Dotson of McCarr, Anthony (Debbie) Dotson, Jr . of Freeburn, Kentucky and Joseph Dotson of Lobata; two daughters, Alice Hurley of Newtown and Gladys (Ronnie) Goodman of Blackberry City; one brother, William Dotson of Virginia; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at the House of Prayer in Jesus Name, McCarr.
Burial will follow in the Billy Dotson cemetery, Phelps, Kentucky DAV rites will be performed by Chapter 141 of the Disabled American Veterans. Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the church.

Rush Belcher
Rush Belcher, 68, resident of Stopover, Kentucky, formerly of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2002 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility.
Born May 17, 1934 in Pike County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Gen and Kelsie Potter Belcher.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Murlice Belcher; a son who died in infancy; and a brother, Theodore Belcher.
He was retired from Blue Ridge Mining as a heavy equipment operator, a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, and of the Church of God faith.
He is survived by his wife, Dollie Justice Belcher of Stopover, Kentucky; stepson Kent (Debbie) Justice of Morristown, Tenn.; stepdaughters Sheila (Perry) Sullivan of Phelps, Kentucky, Pam (Greg) Chapman of Williamson, Evie (Dale) Hunt of Abington, Va., and Phelps, Kentucky, and Sherrie (Greg) Smith of Sidney, Kentucky; grandsons Derek Justice of Morristown, Tenn., Larry Gene Sullivan of Phelps, Kentucky, Jarrad Stump of Bean Station, Tenn., Corey Chapman of Williamson and Colby Hunt of Abington, Va.; granddaughter Kyrstyn Chapman of Huntington; brother Woodrow Belcher of Chicago, Ill.; sisters June Bingham of Beaver, Kentucky, and Cloa Blevins of Springfield, Ohio; special nephew Dave Ratliff; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2002 at the Jamboree Church of God with the Revs. Willie Gordon, Opie Harris and Donald Rudd officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dow-Brooks cemetery at Draffin, Kentucky
Military rites will be performed by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 141 of Belfry, Kentucky
Grandson, sons-in-law and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home. Special singing will be held at 7 p.m. Special services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m.

Anne Hammock
Anne Watral Hammock, 86, of Hopewell, Va., died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002 in Hopewell Health Care Center. She was born in Majestic, Kentucky
Mrs. Hammock was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Cornelia Watral, and her husband, Benjamin Lee Hammock.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Smith of Hopewell; Frona Hunt of Toledo, Ohio; seven nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services will be private.
The family is being served by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Hopewell, Va.
Minnie Crigger
Minnie Leannah Robinson Crigger, 82, of Canada, Kentucky, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002 at Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Kentucky
Born Feb. 18, 1920 in Pike County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Steve Robinson and Ora Smith Robinson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grayson Crigger; three brothers, Joe, Oscar and Ester; and four sisters, Mary, Edna, Bertha and Virgie.
Minnie was a homemaker and longtime member of Dix Fork Old Regular Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, David (Geraldine) Crigger of Canada, Kentucky; one granddaughter, Cindy Crigger of Williamson; one grandson, Paul David Crigger of Canada, Kentucky; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Smith of Sidney, Kentucky, Ferandia Robinson of Hatfield, Kentucky, and Hazel Robinson of Bradenton, Fla.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002 at Dix Fork Old Regular Baptist Church with Lacy Walters, Bobby Scott, Berlin Thornsbury and Frank Scott officiating.
Burial will follow in the Smith cemetery, Sidney, Kentucky
Pallbearers will be Wayne Blackburn, Edward Lee Smith, Eddie Williamson, Walter Bogar, Ronnie Gannon, Curtis Smith and Paul David Crigger.

Stephen Ward
Stephen Brian Keith Ward, 18, resident of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky
Born Jan. 14, 1984 in South Williamson, Kentucky, he was the son of Pamela Jo Layne Perry of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, and the late Stephen Ward.
He was a computer technician for Sycks Communications in Pikeville, Kentucky, and was a 2002 graduate of Belfry High School.
He is also survived by his stepfather, Jackie Ray Perry of Turkey Creek, Kentucky; maternal grandparents Iva Lee "Preach" and Pavleene Layne of Freeburn, Kentucky; paternal grandparents Troy "Ike" Ward of Freeburn, Kentucky, and Bernice Hurley of Stopover, Kentucky; girlfriend Jennifer Davis of Williamson; and special friends Kim Steenbergen of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, and Fred Coleman of Williamson.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002 at the Barrenshea Church of God with the Rev. D.D. Nelson, Jimmy Stanley and Bobby Dale Wolford officiating.
