Ralph Francis Jr.
Ralph Francis Jr., 59, of 774 Pigeonroost Rd., Canada, Kentucky, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at Pikeville (Kentucky) Methodist Hospital.
Born Sept. 9, 1942 in Williamson, he was a son of Marjorie Reed Francis and the late Ralph Francis Sr.
Mr. Francis was a disabled heavy equipment operator and of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include his former wife, Betty Francis of Canada, Kentucky; a son, Ralph Francis II of the home; one daughter, Marjorie Lynn Francis of home; a step-daughter, Flora Rose Long of Erie, Pa.; two uncles, Joe Reed of Canada, Kentucky, and Doug Reed of Belfry, Kentucky; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2002 at Highland Presbyterian Church, Canada, Kentucky, with the Rev. Bill VanZant officiating.
Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky
Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Highland Presbyterian Church, Canada, Kentucky, with special services both nights at 7 p.m.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Christopher Evans
Christopher Kyle Evans, 12, of Lovely, Kentucky, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
Born March 28, 1990 in South Williamson, Kentucky, he was the son of Terry and Ada Evans.
Christopher was a student at Warfield Middle School.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include grandparents, Willie and Ethel Howard of Canada, Kentucky; and a brother, Mike Evans of Lovely, Kentucky
He was preceded in death by grandparents Homer and Christine Evans.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oppy Church of God with the Rev. Paul Stepp officiating.
Burial will follow in Evans cemetery, Lovely, Kentucky
Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Oppy Church of God.
Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home of Inez, Kentucky, is in charge of arrangements.
Mat Carter
Mat Carter, 78, of Grove City, Ohio, died recently.
Funeral services will be held at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez Chapel, at 3 p.m. Visitation will be two hours before the service.
Donald Bowen
Donald R. Bowen, 59, of Inez, Kentucky, died Friday, May 3, 2002, in the Highland Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Monday, May 6, at Phelps & Son Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at the Perry-Damron cemetery at Inez.
Visitation was from 5 p.m., Saturday, May 4, 2002.
Woody Thompson
Woody Thompson, 82, of Louisa, Kentucky, formerly of Williamson, W.V., died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at his residence.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m., Monday, May 6, at Weaver Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, at the funeral home.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Weaver Mortuary.
Ida Rucker
Ida Evelyn Francisco Rucker, 78, of Ashcamp, Kentucky, died Friday, May 24, 2002 at Pikeville (Kentucky) Methodist Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at the Marrowbone Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held at Bailey Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Saturday.
Harmon Edmiston
Harmon Edmiston, 84, of Dix Fork, Sidney, Kentucky, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Jewish Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky
He was born May 21, 1917, in Pike County, Kentucky, to the late Wayne Edmiston and Anna Marcum Edmiston.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Fayne Justice Edmiston; five brothers, Wayne Jr., Lawrence, Cal, Raymond and Pearly Edmiston; and one sister, Mary Church.
Mr. Edmiston was a retired coal miner with S & J Mining, Cinderella, W.Va. He was a member of UMWA and Dix Fork Old Regular Baptist Church. He was also a US Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his daughter, Emma Smith of Sidney, Kentucky; three brothers, Charlie Edmiston of Canaday, Kentucky, Alex Edmiston of Hatfield, Kentucky, and Dewey Edmiston of Carlsbad, N.M.; two sisters, Mae Hatfield of Oklahoma City., Ok., Bobbie Jean Rowe of Belfry, Kentucky; three grandchildren, David Warren Smith of Columbus, Ohio, Linda Ayala and Jamie Smith of Sidney, Kentucky; three great grandchildren, Brittany and Bradley Hall and Michael Beavers; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2002, 11 a.m., at Dix Fork Old Regular Baptist Church, Sidney, Kentucky with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. He will be buried at the family cemetery in Sidney, Kentucky
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers for the service.
Visitation will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home and after 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dix Fork Old Regular Baptist Church. Special services will be held both nights at 7 p.m.

Woodrow Thompson
Woodrow Wilson Thompson, 82, of Louisa, Kentucky, formerly of Williamson, W.Va. died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Thompson was born September 26, 1919, in Chattaroy, W.Va. to the late Allen Thompson and Mary White Thompson Rawlings.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Ward Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was a retired plumber and owner of Dingess Plumbing. He was a former member of the Williamson Moose Lodge and was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Army.
Surviving are his daughters, Geta Maynard of Toledo, Ohio and Betty Oliver Newman of Homosassa, Florida; sisters, Arlene Davis of Chattaroy, W.Va., Ella Murphy of Laurel, Maryland, Lillian Esteppe, of Peachtree City., Georgia and Dorothy Cullen of Vineland, New Jersey; grandchildren, Debbie Maynard of Toledo, Ohio, Beth Ann Maynard of Columbus, Ohio and Mary Jo Lowe of Huntington, W.Va. and great granddaughters, Stephanie and Natalie Lowe of Huntington, W.Va.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2002, 11 a.m., at Weaver Mortuary with Rev. Ron Sanger officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens. Jack Maynard, Jim Gattuso, Riley Lowe and Jim Newman will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Monday evening, May 6, 23002, 6-9 p.m. at the mortuary.

Stella Marie Horn
Stella Marie Horn, 62, of Warfield, Kentucky, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
She was born August 31, 1939 in Martin County to the late James and Polly Stepp.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Horn, and son, Richard Horn Jr. Mrs. Horn was a member of Big Elk Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughters, Kathy Brown of Warfield, Kentucky and Linda Wellman of Louisa, Kentucky; brothers, Orville Stepp of Lovely, Kentucky, Garnet Parsley of Warfield, Kentucky; and sisters, Dolly Fletcher of Inez, Kentucky, Barb Slone of Inez, Kentucky, and Wanda Scott of Huntington, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Jason and Derek Brown of Louisa, Kentucky, Jeremy and Melissa Brown of Warfield and Beth Horn of Warfield.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the Inez Funeral Chapel with Jess Chaffins officiating. Burial will follow at the Stepp cemetery, Warfield, Kentucky
Visitation will be at the Inez Funeral Chapel after 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday.
Lorie Hammond
Lorie Hammond, 35, of Shelbiana, Kentucky, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at the Morristown Hamblen Hospital.
Born Feb. 21, 1967, she was a daughter of Lloyd Douglas and Loraine McCown.
She was a factory worker and of the Old Regular Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include a son, Doug Brandon Hammond of Talbert, Tenn.; two sisters, Arvie Charlot Keene of Shelbiana and Terina Marie McCown of the home; a special companion, Anthony Toups; and her paternal grandmother, Nannie McCown.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. May 19 at Thacker Memorial Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young cemetery, Chloe Rd., Pikeville, Kentucky
Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Special services will begin at 7 p.m. with ministers Perry Layne, Vernon Conway, A.B. Thacker and others.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home.
Clyde Wallace
Clyde Wallace, 57, of Jackson's Branch, Elkhorn City, Kentucky, died Thursday, May 16, 2002 at Pikeville (Kentucky) Methodist Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at Bailey Funeral Home.
Visitation began after 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Georgia Cunningham
Georgia A. Cunningham, 61, of Edgarton, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at Pikeville (Kentucky) Methodist Hospital.
Born Oct. 11, 1940 in Pike County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Arnold and Lilly Missouri Mounts.
Mrs. Cunningham was a retired school teacher with 38-plus years service to the Mingo County Board of Education.
She was of the Church of God faith.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Cunningham; three sons, Mark Allen Bentley of Buskirk, Kentucky, Peter Bentley of Phelps, Kentucky, and Nathan Mounts of Freeburn, Kentucky; and five grandchildren, Mark Allen Bentley II, Saranna Bonae Bentley, Ceaira Faye Bentley, Terrionna Kayesha Bentley and Ariel Havanna Mounts.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, May 10, at Freeburn Pentecostal Church of God with Kenneth Chapman and DeWitt Furrow officiating.
Burial will follow in the Daniels cemetery at Barrenshea, Kentucky
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the church.

Willis New
Willis New (Jake Eldridge), 83, of Freeburn, Kentucky, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at Pikeville (Kentucky) Methodist Hospital.
Born June 10, 1918 in Pike County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Cleve and Nancy Caldonia Eldridge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Dotson New, and one son, Willis New Jr.
Mr. New was a retired coal miner and of the Free Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include sons, Homer New of Galveston, Kentucky, Woodrow New of Freeburn, Kentucky, Franklin D. New, Jimmy New and David New, all of Marengo, Ohio, and Michael New of McCarr, Kentucky; daughters, Truby Stump and Alice Lester, both of Phelps, Kentucky, Georgia Lea Keathley of Galveston, Kentucky, Elizabeth McGlothlin of Grand Blank, Mich., Linda Peters of Marengo, Ohio, and Angela New of Freeburn, Kentucky; 42 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a brother, Bryson New of Cleveland, Ohio; and sisters, Macie Ray of Majestic, Kentucky, and Wid Stumbo of Virginia.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2002 at the Freeburn Free Pentecostal Church of God with the Revs. Kenny Chapman, Chester Keathley, William Cornn and DeWitt Furrow officiating.
Burial will follow in the Buddy Mounts cemetery, Freeburn, Kentucky
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Visitation will begin Thursday, May 9, 2002, at Phelps Funeral Services Chapel at 6 p.m. with services at 7 p.m. Visitation will then be held Friday, May 10, at 5 p.m. at the Freeburn Free Pentecostal Church of God with services beginning at 7 p.m.
