Edna Stanley, 82, of Hardy, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, after a brief stay in Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility, South Williamson, Kentucky
Born Jan. 26, 1918, at Brushy Creek, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Sonny and Sarah Ellen Francis Maynard.
She was also preceded in death by: husband, George Stanley; a baby, Lois Mae Stanley; brothers, Claude, Wade, Delman and Arnold Maynard; and sisters, Sadie Chafins, Mae Bushnell.
She was a homemaker and a faithful member of Narrows Branch Old Regular Baptist Church for 64 years.
Survivors: son, Kenneth Stanley, Daytona Beach, Fla.; daughters, Shirley (Jack) Moore, Ft. Myers, Fla., June (Elder Bobby) Scott and Lola Hatfield, both of Hardy, Wilma Sue Igo, Catawa, N.C.; brother, Arson Maynard, Borderland; sister, June Sparks, Ft. Myers; and 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Hatfield Funeral Chapel, Toler, Kentucky, with Elders Lacy Walters, Greg Scott and Bobby Scott officiating.
Pallbearers: grandchildren.
Burial: Bobby Scott cemetery, Narrows Branch, Hardy.
Visitation: anytime today at the funeral home with service at 7 p.m. tonight.

Clarence Sublett, 85, of Phelps, Kentucky, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at in Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Kentucky

Chester Newsome
Chester Newsome, 79, of Weeksbury, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in Central Baptist Hospital.
Born May 2, 1921, in Pike County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Fred and Stella Brock Newsome.
He was also preceded in death by: wife, Ethel Little Newsome
He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Lion's Club.
Survivors: family, Lisa, Greg, Joe and Jordan Burke, Rhonda, Danny, Nick, Jarrod, Amanda and Baby Gage Compton, Phillip, Julena, Tylor, Ethan, Rick, Marsha, Lance, Fern and Verlis Hall, Jean and Don Whittington.

Larry Childers, 24, of Zebulon Highway, Pikeville, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000.
Born Feb. 17, 1976, he was a son of Larry and Kathy Tibbs Childers.
He was a mechanic and a member of Vogel Day United Methodist Church.

Augustine Dye
Augustine Charles Dye, 82, of Pikeville, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, Kentucky
Born June 22, 1918, in Pike County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Charles and Martha Elizabeth Compton Dye.
He was also preceded in death by: brothers, John M., William and Virgil Dye; and sister, Bernice Sturgill.
He was a retired carpenter, an Army veteran and a member of Coal Run Church of Christ.
Survivors: wife, Corine Leedy Dye; daughters, Vicki Lynn Dye, Berea, Kentucky, Carolyn Ann Johnson, Harold, Kentucky; sister, Helen Sword, Taylor, Mich.; and four grandchildren, a great-grandchild.

Nora Doss
Nora Lee McCoy Doss, 84, of Virginia Beach, Va., died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Sunbridge For Virginia Beach Nursing Home.
Born June 14, 1916, in Pike County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Willard and Bessie Marcum McCoy.
She was also preceded in death by: husband, William "Bill" Doss; brothers, Brumley and Clay McCoy; sisters, Agnes McCoy Lambert and Dovely McCoy; daughter-in-law, Gail Doss; and great-grandchild, Christopher Ryan Simmons.
She was a homemaker and a member of Burnwell Church of God.
Survivors: son, Willard J. Doss, Virginia Beach; sister, Vera Elizabeth McCoy Doss, Lansing, Mich.; grandchildren, Denise Ann Doss Simmons, Elizabeth R. Doss Simpkins and Willard Allen Doss, all of Virginia Beach; and great-grandchildren, Kenneth Adam and Brian Allen Simmons, James Matthews Simpkins and Melissa Wade McKenzie.

Okie Marie Fraley, 85, of Van Lear, Kentucky, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, in Paul B. Hall Medical Center, Paintsville, Ky
Born Dec. 24, 1915, in Johnson County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Frank Daniels and Mahala Preston.
She was also preceded in death by husband, Tom Fraley.

Mildred Burris, 83, of Frankfort, Kentucky, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at her residence.
A native of Williamson, she was a daughter of the late James H. and Ollie Runyan Hatfield.
She was also preceded in death by husband, John L. Burris.
She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors: son, Jim Burris, Frankfort; and two grandchildren, a great-grandchild.

Born Oct. 29, 1936, in Pike County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Ample Arlene Griffin Thompson.
She was also preceded in death by: husbands, Billy Ray Williams and Bennie F. Slone; and daughter, Karen Coleman.
She was a bookkeeper and a member of Owsley Freewill Baptist Church.

Born July 17, 1921, in Martin County, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Ida Stanley.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Luster and son, James Clifford Luster.
Survivors: daughters, Nina Workman, Hazard, Kentucky, and Jean Muncy, Inez, Kentucky; sister, Ethel Branham, Columbus, Ohio; brother, Albert Stanley, Borther; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Patricia S. Varney, 69, of Ashland, Kentucky, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in King's Daughters' Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky
Born July 9, 1931, at McAndrews, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Gomer and Alice Webb Clemons.
She was a former employee of Sears, a former owner and operator of Louisa Sears Catalog Store and a member of South Ashland United Methodist Church.
Survivors: husband, Alex A. Varney; son, Robert A. Varney, Ashland; daughters, Rhonda S. Osburn, Ashland, Alexis Varney, Louisville, Kentucky, Mary Branstetter, Greensboro, N.C.; brothers, Gomer Clemons Jr., Lexington, Kentucky; sister, Peggy Fain, Lexington; and six grandchildren, a great-grandchild.
