Betty Frank Vaughn
Services for Betty Frank Vaughn, 72, of Clay, were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay. The Rev. Harry Baldwin officiated, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay.
Mrs. Vaughn died at 2 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at Columbia Health Care in Evansville, IN.
She and her late husband Sonny had owned and operated Clay Hardware for over 35 years. She was also a member of Clay First General Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Vicky Ann Vaughn of Madisonville, Christa Hoffman and Carol Vaughn, both of Clay; a sister, Helen Birdwell of Evansville, IN; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Sue N. Branson
Services for Sue N. Branson, 80, of Henderson, were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson. The Rev. Charles Linhart officiated, with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery in Poole.
Mrs. Branson died at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Methodist Hospital in Henderson.
She was a member of Henderson General Baptist Church, the Eastern Star and the Homemakers Club.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, James F. Branson; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Randy Lawson of Lexington; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Danny and Virginia Branson of Dixon, Phillip and Robin Branson of Robards, and Stephen Branson of Lexington; a sister, Sammie Springer of Evansville, IN; three brothers, David Coble and Wendell Evans, both of Madisonville, and Mack Coble of Beaver Dam; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Darrell Ray Curry
Services for Darrell Ray Curry, 72, of Greenville, were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Second Baptist Church in Greenville. Dr. Ray England and the Rev. Bob Thurman officiated, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
Mr. Curry died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
He was a graduate of Wheatcroft High School, the Kentucky State Police Academy and attended Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. He had served in the U.S. Army as an M.P. in Japan during the Korean War. He retired from Kentucky State Police after 28 years service, and retired as chief of police in Greenville after 12 years of service. He was also a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville and was a member of VFW Post No. 5478.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Doris Johnson Curry; a daughter, Susan Ferguson of Greenville; two sons, Mark Curry and Jeffrey Curry, both of Greenville; two brothers, Douglas Curry of Montrose, MI, and Dennis Curry of Greenville; two sisters, Juanita Witherspoon of Henderson and Eva Bowles of Madisonville; four grandchildren.
Gary Funeral Home in Greenville was in charge of arrangements.
Harold Fryer
Services for Harold Fryer, 81, of Clay, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay. Dr. Lee James and Bro. Jeff McMain officiated, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay.
Mr. Fryer died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at his residence.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Clay.
Survivors include a sister, Helen Fryer of Clay; a brother, Tom Fryer of Shelby, MI; and three nephews.
Kenneth A. McClanahan
Services for Kenneth A. McClanahan, 79, of Hartford, KY, were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay.
Mr. McClanahan died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at his residence.
He retired from Kentucky Utilities after 40 years service. He was also a member of Hartford United Methodist Church, Lions Club, VFW, and the American Legion. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Jonell McCoy McClanahan; a son, Mark McClanahan of Clay; three stepsons, Jimi Harris of Hartford, Jeff Harris of Morganfield and John Harris of Owensboro; a stepdaughter, Tracy Desper of Beaver Dam; two grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Hazel V. Bell
Services for Hazel V. Bell, 88, of Evansville, IN, were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Alexander West Chapel in Evansville. The Rev. Janice Y. Akers-Du Bois officiated, with burial in Slaughters Cemetery in Slaughters.
Mrs. Bell died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Deaconess Hospice Care in Evansville.
She was a longtime member of Howell United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Quilting Club, choir, Martha's Circle, and past president of The Women's Missionary Society.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Bell and Darrell A. Bell, both of Evansville, and Gary W. Bell of Newburgh, IN; two sisters, Archie Lee Stull of Sebree and Joretta Brown of Paducah; two brothers, Paul Carlisle of Evansville, IN, and Wallace 'Mac' Carlisle of Indianapolis, IN; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
James O. "Beatie" Morgan
Services James O. "Beatie" Morgan, 63, Evansville, IN, were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Greater Norris Chapel Baptist Church in Henderson. The Rev. Chester Hatcher officiated, burial in Springdale Cemetery in Sebree.
Mr. Morgan died at 1:25 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Deaconess Hospice Care Center in Evansville, IN.
He attended Douglass High School in Henderson County and was a former employee of the A&H Truck Line, where he retired after 29 years. He was a member of the New Race Creek Baptist Church in Henderson.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Kay Green Morgan; three daughters, Danishinna Morgan, Janetta Morgan and Wanda Hopson, all of Evansville; one son, James E. Morgan of Henderson; two brothers, Marvin Morgan of Evansville and Earl Morgan of Indianapolis, IN; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mildred M. Sellers
Private services and burial were held for Mildred M. Sellers, 84, of Berkshire Commons, Exeter Twp., PA, formerly of Clay, at Lutz Funeral Home in Reading, PA.
Mrs. Sellers died at 9:35 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Reading Hospital and Medical Center West in Reading, PA.
She was a registered nurse last working as a head nurst at Jewish Nursing Home of Western Mass., in Longmeadow, MA for 20 years before retiring. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Longmeadow, MA, a graduate of Dickson High School and Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis, TN.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. John M. Sellers of Reading, PA, and Phillip C. Sellers of Savannah, GA; a brother, Bob Oliver Marshall of Nebo; three grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.
Nannie E. Collins Baughn
Services for Nannie E. Collins Baughn, 82, of Evansville, IN, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Boone Funeral Home in Evansville. Pastor Jeff Stratton officiated, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Evansville.
Mrs. Baughn died at 4:10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
She was retired from Mechanics Laundry after 24 years.
Survivors include six daughters, Rose Gibson of Evansville, Rebecca Plummer of Newburgh, Gail Whitler of Evansville, Debra Fenwick of Evansville, and Janetta Stone and Shirley Bowers, both of Clay; three sons, David Hardin and Darrell Collins, both of Evansville, and J.W. Farley of Blackford; a sister, Janice Sanders of Newburgh, IN; 22 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
James Eldon Neisz
Services for James Eldon Neisz, 67, of Dawson Springs, were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Harris Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville. The Rev. Dennis Mayfield officiated, with burial in Rosedale Cemetery in Dawson Springs.
Mr. Neisz died at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, in Dalton.
He was a retired Teamster with Local 600, St. Louis, MO. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Tracy Neisz and Marilyn Neisz, both of St. Louis, MO; two sons, Jimmy E. Neisz of Dawson Springs and Tony Neisz of St. Louis; four sisters, Lula Mae Proctor, Millie Begrim and Sheila Peyton, all of Dawson Springs, and Brenda K. Neisz of Dalton; two brothers, Garlin H. Neisz of Providence and Ralph Neisz of Dawson Springs; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Wilma King Bryant
Services for Wilma King Bryant, 81, of Sebree, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Tompkins Funeral Homes, Sebree/Poole Chapel. Dr. Dan Lovell officiated, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson.
Mrs. Bryant died at 1:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Colonial Terrace Nursing Home in Sebree.
A native of Webster County, she was a member of Sebree Christian Church and was a 50-year member and past matron of Sebree Eastern Star. She had worked at Sebree Elementary and completed the term of Webster County magistrate after the death of her husband. She was then elected to serve as magistrate for a full term being the first woman elected as magistrate in Webster County, serving a total of six years.
Survivors include a daughter, Joanna Beach of Clay; two sons, Bob Bryant of Sebree and Terry Bryant of Lebanon, TN; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Alla Mae Brogan Moore
Services for Alla Mae Brogan Moore, 98, of Clay, were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay. Dr. Lee James officiated, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay.
Mrs. Moore died at 6:23 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at River's Bend Retirement Center in Kuttawa.
She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years and was also a member of the Dorcas class.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean Moore Reed of Grand Rivers; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Wanda Francis Frederick
Services for Wanda Francis Frederick, 83, of Clay, were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay. The Rev. Mike Thomas officiated, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay.
Mrs. Frederick died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Valley View Nursing Home in Huntsville, AL.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Clay.
Survivors include two sons, Larry David Frederick of Huntsville, AL, and Phillip Lee Frederick of Bath, ME; two sisters, Daphine Carlisle and Wilma Brown, both of Clay; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Cheryl Ann Buchanan Wilson
Services for Cheryl Ann Buchanan Wilson, 45, of Onton, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, at Onton United Methodist Church in Onton. The Revs. Billy Raby and Greg Shannon officiated, with burial in Onton Cemetery in Onton.
Mrs. Wilson died at 11:40 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Deaconess Hospital in Henderson.
She was a bus monitor for the Webster County Board of Education. She was also a member of Onton United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Tim Wilson; a daughter, Jessica Wilson Coy of Onton; a son, Travis Wilson of Sebree; his mother, Edith Emery of Sebree; his father, Tommy Buchanan of Onton; two brothers, Buddy Buchanan of Onton and Roger Buchanan of Dixon; three sisters, Teresa Jennings of Naples, FL, Kay Stone of Sebree, and Tammy Haynes of Sebree; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Ann Long Allinder
Services for Ann Long Allinder, 72, of Poole, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery in Poole.
Mrs. Allinder died at 6:07 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, IN.
She was of the Catholic faith. She was retired.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Allinder of Poole; two sons, Larry Allinder and James Allinder, both of Poole; a brother, Jerry Long of Smith Mills; two sisters, Alice Cobb of Henderson and Dorothy Trent-Arnold of Missouri; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Visitation at the Funeral home will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. until service time on Thursday.
William S. 'Billy' Bearden
Services for William S. 'Billy' Bearden, 56, of Sacramento, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville. Bro. Marty Martinez officiated, with burial in Browder Cemetery.
Mr. Bearden died at 6:33 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at Muhlenberg County Hospital in Greenville.
He was a member of Browder's United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a Kentucky Colonel and had worked at Fies No. 11 mine, South Hopkins Coal Company and Dotiki Mine for a total of 31 years.
Survivors include his wife, Sun Ye Bearden; his mother, Ruth Bearden of Madisonville; a daughter, Joan Ku Bearden-Griffin of Madisonville; a son, Stephen Thomas Bearden of Sacramento; a sister, Wanda Blohm French of Dawson Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
Roy Lee McWorthy
Services for Roy Lee McWorthy, 52, of Sturgis, were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis. The Rev. Nicky Winders officiated, with burial in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.
Mr. McWorthy died at 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Methodist Hospital Union County.
He was a member of Grangertown Baptist Church and was a coal miner.
Survivors include his wife, Kay McWorthy; two daughters, Kristie McWorthy Smith of Henderson and Brook McWorthy Grimes of Salem; two sons, Erik Lee McWorthy and Dakota Fletcher, both of Sturgis; two stepdaughters, Tammy Fletcher of Clay and LaDonna Miller of Slaughters; her mother, Anna Bell McWorthy of Sturgis; a sister, Kay Paris of Marion; and one grandchild.
Jewell Frank Messamore
Services for Jewell Frank Messamore, 86, of Evansville, IN, were conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Browning Funeral Home in Evansville. Pastor Michael Rittichier officiated, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Evansville.
Mr. Messamore died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
A native of Wheatcroft, he retired from Island Coal Co., in 1980 after 25 years of service. He was also a member of University Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Sue Vick Messamore; a daughter, Vickie Canary of Colorado Springs, CO; a sister, Mildred Gobin of Providence; and three grandchildren.
Samuel Lee Straker Jr.
Services for Samuel Lee Straker Jr., 68, of Sturgis, were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis. Bros. Joey Durham and John Baker officiated, with burial in Old Cedar Grove Cemetery in Webster County.
Mr. Straker died at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Methodist Hospital Union County.
He was a member of Sturgis Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Pat Starkey of Sturgis and Betty Cowles of Marion, IL; nieces and nephews.
Marian Cullen Travis
Services for Marian Cullen Travis, 68, of Providence, will be conduced at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Townsend-Jones Funeral Home in Providence. The Revs. Fred Harrison and Robert Phillips will officiate, with burial to follow in Cullen Cemetery in Providence.
Mrs. Travis died at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at her residence.
She was a dispatcher with the Providence Police/Fire departments and a former Sureway clerk for 26 years. She was also a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Beckner of Providence; two sons, Lt. Col. David McLemore of Prattville, AL, and Kenneth A. Travis of Providence; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Funeral home.
