W.H. "Mike" Brown
Services for W.H. 'Mike' Brown, 84, of Sebree, were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Tompkins Funeral Homes, Sebree/Poole Chapel. Dr. Dan Lovell officiated, with burial in Springdale Cemetery in Sebree, with military rites by American Legion Worsham Post No. 40 in Henderson.
Mr. Brown died at 2:07 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Colonial Terrace Nursing Home in Sebree.
A native of Webster County, he was a retired member of Operating Engineers Local No. 181 in Henderson, a World War II U.S. Army veteran having received three Bronze Stars. He was also a member of Sebree First Christian Church, Bailey-Onton Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Austin Collins Post No. 243 in Sebree.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Briscoe) Brown; two sons, Jerry (Poogie) Brown and James A. Nance, both of Sebree; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchid.
Elizabeth Louise Deason Gates
Services for Elizabeth Louise (Deason) Gates, 77, of Sebree, were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Tompkins Funeral Homes, Sebree/Poole Chapel. The Revs. Wayne Burton and Chad Hensley officiated, with burial in Springdale Cemetery in Sebree.
Mrs. Gates died at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Colonial Terrace Nursing Home in Sebree.
She was a homemaker and secretary. She was also a member of White Oak General Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy McHone of Platte City, MO; a son, Larry Gates of Anna, TX; two sisters, Grace Knight of Robards and Margaret Johnson of Albany, MO; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
George M. Adcock
Services for George M. 'Shorty' Adcock, 89, of Dalton, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at Melton Funeral Home in Providence. The Rev. Dennis Mayfield will officiate, with burial in Dalton Cemetery in Dalton. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the Funeral home.
Mr. Adcock died Monday, June 2, 2003, at his residence.
He was a member of Dalton Baptist Church and a 50-year Mason in Providence Lodge No. 148. He was a retired coal miner of 32 years, having worked at Dotiki mine. He also worked as a painter at Evansville Shipyards during World War II and painted locally.
Survivors include two sons, Eddie Adcock of Nebo and Forrest Adcock of Dalton; his caregiver, Branda Blanchard of Shady Grove; three grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and five great-grandchildren.
Junell Wright Ebeling
Memorial services for Junell Wright Ebeling, 78, of Spring, TX, formerly of Onton, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at Onton United Methodist Church in Onton. Burial was held June 24, 2003, at Onton Cemetery in Onton, with the Rev. Dave Truran officiating.
Mrs. Ebeling died at 5:43 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Houston N.W. Medical Center in Houston, TX.
A native of Onton, she was a retired office manager.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Ardel Truran of Fenton, MI, and Dolores Ann Schroll of New Caney, TX; a son, Douglas Allen Ebeling of Spring, TX; two brothers, Hershall Wright of Evansville, IN, and Joe Wright of Madisonville; three sisters, Agnes Zachary of Slaughters, Katherine Crabtree of Evansville, IN, and Nancy Cunningham of Kansas; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Lee Riggs Ranes
Services for Dorothy Lee Riggs Ranes, 81, of Onton, were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, July 4, at Onton United Methodist Church in Onton. The Revs. Les Chapman and Shelby Coomer officiated, with burial in Sassafras Grove Cemetery in near Onton.
Mrs. Ranes died at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at Colonial Terrace Nursing Home in Sebree.
A native of Webster County, she was a member of Onton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of Mt. Pleasant Homemakers Club and a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Alice Batts of Sebree and Anita Townsend of Hanson; a son, Larry Ranes of Onton; three brothers, Calvin Riggs of Sebree, James Riggs of Owensboro, and Charles Riggs of Bowling Green; two sisters, Opal Weikel of Roswell, NM, and Joyce Hubbard of Hampton, GA; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Makayla M. Robertson
Services for Makayla M. Robertson, 7, of Evansville, IN, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at Ziemer Funeral Home, East Chapel in Evansville. The Rev. Richard Meriedith officiated, with burial in Salem Grove Cemetery in Poole.
Miss Robertson died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
She attended Caze Elementary School in Evansville and was promoted to the second grade at Southside Elementary School in Nortonville, KY, where she was to begin classes in the fall. A straight 'A' students, she attended Concord Baptist Church in White Plains.
Survivors include her parents, Faith Stone of Evansville and Rickey Robertson Jr of Owensboro; three sisters, Megan Robertson, Georgia Marie Robertson and Mackenzie Gunther, all of Evansville; her grandparents, Dolph and Deloris Stone of White Plains, Kathy Riggle of Evansville, Rickey Robertson Sr. of Owensboro, and Sheri Paxton of Gary, IN; her great-grandparents, Earleen Stone of Evansville and Pauline Bryant of Owensboro; several other relatives.
Randall Lee (Paw) Summers
Services for Randall Lee 'Paw' Summers, 80, of Morganfield, were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 6, at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. The Rev. Charles Blanc officiated, with burial in Pride-Bordley Cemetery in Union County.
Mr. Summers died at 6:20 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2003, at his residence.
He was a member of Ekron Baptist Church in Ekron, KY, a member of American Legion Post No. 0040 in Henderson, a World War II veteran, a Kentucky Colonel and had retired from the federal government at Fort Knox.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ruth Cowan Summers; three daughters, Jane Lee Tripp of Leitchfield, Carolyn Andrews of Morganfield, and Kathy Lynn Reed of White Mills, KY; four sons, James R. (Fruit) Summers of Clay, Steven K. Summers of Leitchfield, Byron Summers of Henderson, and Bruce Summers of Elizabethtown; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Jane Brown
Services for Jane Brown, 55, of Dixon, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 11, at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon. The Rev. Curt Yarbrough officiated, with burial in Townsend Cemetery near Dixon.
Mrs. Brown died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at her residence.
She was a housewife.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Brown; a son, Jimmy Brown of Manitou; four brothers, Tommy Estes, Buddy Estes and Bill Bernard, all of Sturgis, and Jimmy Estes of Marion; a sister, Judy Smith of Smith Mills; and two grandchildren.
Uria L. Cartwright
Services for Uria L. Cartwright, 100, of Madisonville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 11, at Grapevine Baptist Church in Madisonville. The Revs. Jeff Hendricks and H. Ralph Gill officiated, with burial in Grapevine Cemetery in Madisonville.
Mr. Cartwright died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home in Madisonville.
He was a charter member of Grapevine Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher. He retired from Pleasant View Coal Mines and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
Survivors include his wife, Ozelia Howton Cartwright; two daughters, Jo Ann Lovan of Reedland, KY, and Peggy Dean Forbes of Madisonville; three sons, Bremen Matthew Cartwright of Madisonville, Billy R. Cartwright of Providence, and Bobby Allen Cartwright of Tifton, GA; a sister, Edna Rice of Madisonville; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Zack 'Sonny' Green
Services for Zack 'Sonny' Green, 67, of Providence, were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Marable Temple Church of God in Christ in Providence. Elder Eugene Marable officiated, followed with a private burial.
Mr. Green died at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, July 6, 2003, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
He was an employee for Peabody Coal Co. in Morganfield and was a member of United Mine Workers of America.
Survivors include his wife, Retha Louise Green; three daughters, Dallas Truss of Oxford, AL, Tartha Elston and Tanza Johnson, both of Lincoln, AL; four sons, Chris Green of Madisonville, Deontrelle Green of Providence, Toney Green of Lincoln, AL, and Danny Green of Anniston, AL; eight stepdaughters, Mary Starks of Hopkinsville, Larcela Gaines, Gloria Wilson, Patsy Gilmore and Elizabeth Gray, all of Providence, Christine Baker of Mount Vernon, IL, Chiquita Gilmore of Henderson, and Thelma Gilmore of Madisonville; two stepsons, Perry Starks of Providence, and Marvin Gilmore of Madisonville; five sisters, Catherine Hall of Detroit, MI, Ella Mae Embry of Pontiac, MI, Eva Grave Green of Talladega, AL, Sylvia Green of Lincoln, and Hazel Chapman of Los Angeles, CA; a brother, Jerry L. Virginia Frances Conrad
Services for Virginia Frances Conrad, 67, of Providence, were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Melton Funeral Home in Providdence. The Rev. Tommy Townsend officiated, with burial in Green Grove Cemetery in Providence.
Mrs. Conrad died at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at her residence.
Survivors include a son, Randall Conrad of Providence; three sisters, Norma D. Key and Nancy Kitchen, both of Providence, and Thelma Robertson of Sturgis; one grandchild; one step-grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Kathryn Lee Fletcher
Services for Kathryn Lee Fletcher, 83, of Sugar Land, TX, formerly of Sturgis and Providence, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis. Burial will follow in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.
Mrs. Fletcher died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at her residence.
She had attended Sturgis schools and graduated with her masters in education from Murray State University. She taught for 30 years in the Sturgis Public Schools. She was also a member of Williams Trace Baptist Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Charles Christian of Bethpage, TN, and Billy Christian of Nashville, TN; a sister, Dorothy Stiles of charlotte, NC; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Boyd
Services for Mary 'Miss B' Boyd, 84, of Kerrville, TX, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Kerrville Funeral Home in Kerrville, TX.. Burial will follow in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Mrs. Boyd died Sunday evening, Aug. 3, 2003, in Kerrville.
She graduated from Providence High School and attended college in Louisville. During WWII, she worked for DuPont Corporation and was a background investigator for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She received numerous commendations, including one presented by Mrs. Mamie Eisenhower, for her leadership and devotion to programs supporting dependent military wives and children during her leadership of a Red Cross hospital organization knows as The Gray Ladies in Heidelberg, Germany.
She also continued to serve civilian communities through her work with numerous women's civic organizations and her teaching of adult women's Sunday school classes at Sagamore Hill Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, TX.
Survivors include her husband, U.S. Army Ret. Col. William M.F. Boyd; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Fine of Austin, TX, Mrs. Barbara Hurd of Kila, MT, and Mrs. Valerie Boyd Overall of Arvada, CO; a son, Col. U.S. Army Ret. Michael Boyd of Huntsville, AL; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Gary Thomas Brooks
Services for Gary Thomas Brooks, 49, of Slaughters, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Tompkins Funeral Homes, Slaughters/Hanson Chapel. The Revs. Joey Murphy and David Alexander officiated, with burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Slaughters.
Mr. Brooks died at 7:19 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
He was an employee of Tyson Foods in Robards and also a former employee of American Mine Tool in Madisonville. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Barbara Hook Brooks; a daughter, Donna Brooks Denton of Onton; a son, Shawn Brooks of Slaughters; his parents, Gerald and Lucille Gibson Brooks of Slaughters; a sister, Julane Blue of Hanson; his grandmother, Wanda Gibson of Hanson; and two grandchildren.
Pastor Brenda Childs

Mrs. Childs died at 8:05 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
She was a pastor at Messengers of Life Church in Madisonville.

Richard Harry Jackson
Services for Richard Harry Jackson, 83, of Flat Rock, MI, formerly of Onton, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at at Tompkins Funeral Homes, Sebree/Poole Chapel. The Rev. Greg Shannon officiated, with burial in Onton Cemetery in Onton.
Mr. Jackson died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, in Michigan.
A native of Onton, he was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. He was retired form Pipefitter Union No. 636 in Farmington Hills. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge and Kentucky Colonel in Sebree.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Jane Jackson of Rockwood, MI; three sons, John Raymond Jackson of Trenton, MI, James Richard Jackson of Monroe, MI, and Michaell Jackson of Virginia Beach, VA; a stepbrother, Raymond Olgesby of Onton; and nine grandchildren.
Robert S. Rigdon

Patsy J. Dills
Services for Patsy J. Dills, 59, of Providence, were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Melton Funeral Home in Providence. Burial followed in Lakeview Cemetery in Providence.
Ms. Dills died Sunday night, Aug. 10, 2003, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
She was a member of Christ Temple Church in Providence.
Survivors include five sisters, Betty Jane Watson and Eva Andrews, both of Dixon, Nellie Foe, Brenda Morse, and Connie Dills, all of Providence; three brothers, William Dills of Clarksville, TN, Robert Dills of Nashville, TN, and Ronnie Dills of White Bluff, TN.
Evelyn Roberts
Graveside services for Evelyn Roberts, 82, of Lone Oak, were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens near Paducah. The Revs. Stan Reid and Mike Williams officiated the service.
Mrs. Roberts died at 6 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at her residence.
She was former employee of Paducah Dry and Boyd's Grocery of Lone Oak. She also had attended Providence High School.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, William D. 'Dub' Roberts; a daughter, Linda Thompson of Lone Oak; a sister, Marian Travis of Providence; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
