Elizabeth Sublett, devoted mother, school counselor

For the past couple of years, Fridays have been baseball cap day at River Ridge Elementary School in Villa Hills.

Kids were allowed to wear their baseball caps to show their love and support for Elizabeth Casolari Sublett as she underwent cancer treatments. On Saturday, the popular guidance counselor lost her battle with the disease. Mrs. Sublett, 40, of Florence, died at her home.

Current third-, fourth- and fifth-graders at the school have worked with Mrs. Sublett, said her husband, Chester, "Chet" A. Sublett.

Mrs. Sublett was so loved at the school that officials are bringing in counselors today to help kids deal with their grief, said Mr. Sublett.

"She was absolutely the most outgoing person one could ever meet," he said. "She always turned a negative situation into a good situation. She had a gift for making people feel at ease."

She had been fighting cancer for 3 1/2 years. She worked until Tuesday.

Mr. Sublett said that a relative said this week that his wife "had the most grace and courage of anyone she'd ever seen." Mr. Sublett agreed.

"We were told a couple of times she wouldn't go back to work," he said.

In addition to her work at River Ridge, she had also been a guidance counselor with Conner and Scott high schools.

Mrs. Sublett was a member of First Church of Christ, Burlington.

She enjoyed sewing but spent most of her time taking her daughters Sherry Lynn and Amber Marie, who are 15-year-old twins, and Lauren Elaine, 10, to school activities including softball, band, dance, cheerleading and track.

In addition to her husband and daughters, Mrs. Sublett is survived by her parents, Lawrence and Wilma Casolari of Oven Fork; brothers, Lawrence J. Casolari Jr. of Oven Fork and Curt Casolari of Louisville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the Funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to Cancer Family Care, 7162 Reading Road, Suite 150, Cincinnati, Ohio 45237.

Ross Daniel Kinduell, artist who loved his neighborhood

Ross Daniel Kinduell was an artist with a keen interest in preserving Covington's downtown neighborhoods.

Mr. Kinduell was a longtime resident of Covington's Licking-Riverside neighborhood and had retired from The Kentucky Post as a graphic artist in the advertising department.

He also left his mark as an artist with his personal artwork.

Mr. Kinduell, 79, died at 2:15 a.m. Saturday at Garrard Street Nursing Home in Covington.

He was a member of the Northern Kentucky Historical Society, Licking-Riverside Council, Carnegie Art Society, Northern Kentucky Arts Council and Golden Rule Masonic Lodge No. 345 F&AM.

In 1997 the Northern Kentucky Heritage League presented a $500 grant to the Friends of Covington in Mr. Kinduell's name to help fund a beautification project that he developed for the Fourth Street bridge entrance to Covington.

Mr. Kinduell brought the plans to life with an oil painting of the envisioned entrance, with lush trees and landscaping.

"I admired him very much as an artist and as a friend," said Marjory Meanwell, a longtime neighbor.

"He was dedicated to the neighborhood."

Mr. Kinduell had a soft voice and a courtly manner. He enjoyed sharing his courtyard garden with friends on a spring evening, blowing perfect smoke rings and spinning tales, Ms. Meanwell said. He enjoyed the symphony, the arts and good company. He married three times and once dated Ted Turner's mother, Ms. Meanwell said.
