Mary 'Chunk' Reynolds, handled full schedule easily
Mary Mildred "Chunk" Reynolds could accommodate anything that came along in life without much fuss: Seven children, a full-time job, and in recent years, holiday celebrations for all the children, 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
"We would celebrate Christmas - everybody together at her house," said her youngest daughter, Rebecca Reynolds. "It was always crowded."
Mrs. Reynolds, 76, of Worthville, died Monday at Mount Holly Nursing Center, Louisville.
She retired after 35 years as a machine operator at Teledyne Wirz. It was a job she originally intended to keep for just a few months in order to pay some extra bills, according to her daughter.
Mrs. Reynolds stayed with the work, though, juggling the demands of her family and marriage. She and husband, Claude "Steve" Reynolds, celebrated 51 years of marriage before his death in 1993.
Rebecca Reynolds said her mom's example taught the family the value of a sense of humor and self sufficiency.
"We all learned how to cook growing up, even the boys, because Mom had to work second shift. With the boys she had to leave a list of everything." recalled her daughter, laughing. "And if she left . . . anything off the list, the boys just wouldn't cook it."
Many of Mrs. Reynolds friends still called her by her childhood nickname, "Chunk." Her daughter said the name's origin is a mystery.
Besides her husband, a son, Michael C. Reynolds, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Claudetta Lilly of Covington, Linda Goble and Brenda Adams, both of Carrollton, and Rebecca Reynolds of Worthville; sons, Rudy Reynolds and Gary Lee "Jim Bo" Reynolds, both of Worthville; a brother, Clarence "Tuffy" Stethen of Radcliffe; a sister, Virginia "Dickie" Kidwell of Monticello, Ind.; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
