Leonard W. Southworth, 81, of Taylor Mill, died at 11:55 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was the retired owner of S&W Recapping in Latonia.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Southworth; sons, Paul K. Southworth of Latonia and Terry C. Southworth of Independence; a daughter, Deborah Jane Allen of Carrollton; a brother, Perry Lee Southworth of Carrollton; a sister, Ella B. Bird of Milton; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Connley Brothers Fu neral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Entombment will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Betty Stephenson, 70, of Covington, died at 11:10 a.m. Saturday at Mercy Franciscan Hospital, Western Hills, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker and a member of Ladies Auxiliary of Ryland Heights Masonic Lodge. Her husband, Douglas Stephenson, died in 1995.
Survivors include a son, Michael House of Fort Wright; stepsons, Steven Stephenson of Covington and Ronald Stephenson of Latonia; stepdaughters, Cathy Jasper of Latonia and Patricia Belew of Independence; six step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Virginia Vacca, 74, of Newport, died at 12:40 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Dante Vacca; a daughter, Sharon Bertsch of Highland Heights; and two grandsons.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Dr. William R. Yates, 65, of Crestview Hills, died Sunday at his home. He was an active staff member of both St. Elizabeth and St. Luke hospitals, and was a member of the Patients First Physicians group of Florence, Fort Mitchell Baptist Church and the Covington-Kenton County Lions Club. He was a member of the Northern Kentucky, Kentucky and American medical associations, the American Academy of Family Physicians, a member of the board of Indiana Protective Medical Insurance Co. and Kentucky Medical Insurance Co., and the chairman of the Family Practice Committee at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. His first wife, Phyllis Yates, died in 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Slagle Yates; a son, William R. Yates II of Covington; stepsons, Todd Slagle of Crestview Hills, Gregory Slagle of New York City and Roger Slagle of Edgewood; daughters, Lorna Adams of Crestview Hills, Ann Morrison of Edgewood, Melissa Amsbaugh of Cincinnati and Heather Slagle of Edgewood; a sister, Carolyn Whillhoit of Manning, S.C.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Mitchell Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

William Thomas Jr., former P&G manager
William W. Thomas Jr. was a self-made man who believed in contributing to his community.
Mr. Thomas' parents settled in Northern Kentucky after immigrating from Ireland.
The family didn't have much money, and Mr. Thomas worked to put himself through the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a degree in business administration.
Mr. Thomas, who spent most of his life in Fort Thomas, was a manager of purchasing with Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati for 40 years. He was a co-founder of the Fort Thomas Junior Baseball League and was active in his church, Highland United Methodist Church in Fort Thomas.
"He loved sports, and he loved his kids tremendously, so it was natural for him to get involved," said a son, William W. Thomas III of Fort Thomas.
"He was friendly and outgoing. He had lots of friends in Fort Thomas."
Mr. Thomas, 82, of Austin, Texas, died Friday in Austin.
He was a member of Highland Country Club in Fort Thomas, where he was a senior golf champion, and a graduate of Highlands High School, where he once held the school record for the mile.
His first wife, Dolly R. Thomas, died in 1998.
"He was a great golfer, that was one of his first loves. He also loved to read and write," said William Thomas III.
Other survivors include his wife, Joanne Thomas; a daughter, Susan Thomas Kirby of Winston-Salem, N.C.; another son, Alan C. Thomas, of Fort Thomas; a sister, Evelyn Moebus of Fort Thomas; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 14 at Leland Community Methodist Church in Leland, Mich. Burial will be in Cemetery Point, Leland. Memorials are suggested to American Parkinson's Disease Association, 222 Piedmont Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45219; Leland Community Methodist Church Building Fund, Leland, Mich. 49654; or the charity of the donor's choice.

Barry Wayne Bailey, 47, of Covington, died Sept. 17 at his home.
Survivors include a brother, William Bailey of Indianapolis.

Robert J. Denny, 23, of Cincinnati, died Monday at Children's Hospital, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his mother, Donna Denny of Cincinnati; sisters, Jill McCullum and Angel Denny, both of Cincinnati; brother, William Denny of Cincinnati; and maternal grandmother, Mae Shepherd of Newport.

Violet E. Fender, 93, of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Fort Thomas. She was a secretary for Schwartz Tailoring and a member of Belles and Bows, Silver Grove.

Howard R. Fenstermacher, 70, of Fort Mitchell, died Sept. 22 at his home.
Survivors include a son, Terry Fenstermacher of Leesburg, Ohio; a daughter, Sherry Fenstermacher of Leesburg; a sister, Ann Newport of Harrison, Ohio; and brothers, William Fenstermacher of Lewisburg, W.Va., and Charles Fenstermacher of Cincinnati.

John Randall Hopkins, 56, of Minneola, Fla., formerly of Alexandria, died Sept. 8 at his home. He was a self-employed busi ness communications retailer and a veteran.

William A. Krebs, 64, of Silver Grove, died Sunday at his home. He was a self-employed carpenter and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
