Bettye Jewell Devine Edmondson, 75, Salvisa died Friday, October 5, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville after a short illness. Born September 1, 1932 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Ford Edwin and Ethel Grimes Devine. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, W. Gene Edmondson; one son: Todd (Darlene) Edmondson of Lawrenceburg; two daughters: Tracey (Jeff) Durham of Stanford and Tamsen (Mark) Metcalf of Danville; seven grandchildren: Kristen (Matt) White, Jacob (Nancy) Edmondson, Hannah Edmondson, Sadie and Brooke Durham and Haley and John Ford Metcalf; four sisters: Jane Reed, Patricia Phillips, Sue Shewmaker, and Rita K. McGlone and one brother: Tony Devine. She was preceded in death by one sister: Debra Jean Devine and three brothers, Morgan, Roger and Andrew Devine.
She was a bookkeeper for Lillie McKinney Tax Service and Betty Edmondson Tax Service. She attended Cumberland Presbyterian Church was a member of the Wednesday Club, an avid U.K. Fan and a charter member of the Harrodsburg Band where she played drums. She enjoyed traveling, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren.

Katherine Lucille Lucas, 70, widow of Lowell King and James Walker Lucas, died Sunday, September 30, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born January 29, 1937 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Laura Bell Stafford Johnson. She attended Shawnee Run Baptist Church and enjoyed singing with the gospel group, Witness and quilting. Survivors include: two sons: Dennis King of Lancaster and James Shannon Lucas of Harrodsburg; two daughters: Debbi Campbell of Harrodsburg and Vivian McCarty of Somerset; three brothers: Estill Johnson of Liberty, Jerald Johnson of Rose Lawn, Indiana and Jimmy Johnson of Indiana; three sisters: Judy Daniels of Casey County, Fern Johnson of Casey County and Dee Johnson of Indiana; fifteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son: David Johnson and one sister: Irene Harness.

Mrs. Lettie Mae Smith, 98, widow of Goble Smith, formerly of New Dixville Road, died Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor. Born May 7, 1909 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Molly Coslow Carrier. She was a homemaker, and a member of Benton Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters: Sadie Smock of Mercer County and Helen McCoy of Dixville; one sister: Mary Roberts of Harrodsburg; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; fourteen great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Violet Brown; five brothers: Russell, Garnett, Marvin, Elwood, and Raymond Carrier; two sisters: Beulah Smith and Geneva Phillips and five infant children.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial will be in Patterson Cemetery
with Grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Eva Irene Meeks, 79, of Cynthiana Road, Georgetown, wife for Sixty-Two Years to Leon G. Meeks, died Monday, September 24, 2007 at her residence. Born March 8, 1928 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Mary Bell Dennis Cummins. She was a retired bookkeeper, self-employed artist and enjoyed ceramics and sewing. She shared her talent of painting and art by teaching classes at the Scott County Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of the Meadowthorpe Presbyterian Church.
Besides her husband, survivors include her daughter Sherry G. Wright of Georgetown, two grandsons: Donald Gray Wright and Eric Wright both of Lexington; one granddaughter Jodi Gay Wright Perry of Hinesville, GA. Five great grandchildren: Ashley and Crystal Wright both of Jacksonville, FL., Zachary, Hunter, and Skylar Perry all of Hinesville, GA. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Edwin, Thomas, and Lewis Cummins.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with John Cummins and Rev. Kathy Riley officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery

Donald H. Barnes, 61, Harrodsburg died Monday, September 24, 2007 in Harrodsburg. Born March 17, 1946 in Harrodsburg he was the son of Frances Smith Barnes, Harrodsburg and the late Marvin Barnes. He was a self-employed painter and a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church. He was a United States Navy Veteran of the Vietname War and enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. Additional survivors besides his mother include: three daughters: Patrice (Tracy) Goodlett, Stacy Murphy, and Amanda Barnes, all of Harrodsburg; four sisters: Margaret Claunch, Virginia Edwards, Elizabeth Jean Votaw and Joyce Ann Devine, all of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren: Laken Goodlett, Schyler Goodlett, Jersey McGinnis, Samantha Gish, Jessi Young, Nathan Simpson and Chelsea Teachey. He was preceded in death by one son: Donald H. “Bo” Barnes and one brother: Denzil (Denny) Barnes. Ruth Lamb age 72 widow of Stanley Lamb of Harrodsburg, died Sunday at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. She was born in Garrard County, to the late Cecil and Laura Hensley Rector. A retired farmer, a Baptist she enjoyed pets and canning.
Survivors include: two sons Joe Alford (Scottie) of Harrodsburg, Tommy Deatherage of Fl, four daughters Phyllis Moore (Cash), Rita Phillips and Lois Whittaker (Billy) both of Harrodsburg and Teresa Angel of AR. One brother William Rector of Lexington and one sister Sue Beasley of Tyrone, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
One son James Alford, one step son Stanley Lamb, Jr., two brothers Johnnie and Eugene Rector and one sister Bernice Wiley preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home, with Allen Hensley officiating. Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cash Moore, II, Patrick Sims, Chris Goodlett, Billy Whittaker, Steve Riggs, Jeff Goodlett and Sean Angel.

Elizabeth Jessamine Terhune Patrick, widow of Garrett Patrick died September 12, 2007. Born October 16, 1914 in Mercer County, she was the only daughter of James Isaac and Lottie Bradshaw Terhune. She was a direct descendant of the pioneer Garrett Terhune, Revolutionary War soldier who moved to this area helping in the establishment of Fort Harrods and the Dutch Reformed Church, known as the Old Mud Meeting House. As a descendant of this pioneer family, Elizabeth was chosen to participate in the ceremony marking the dedication of the George Rogers Clark Memorial by Franklin Delano Roosevelt at Fort Harrods on November 6, 1934.
She was valedictorian of her senior class at Burgin High School in 1933, and then married Garrett on January 1, 1936. They had two children, Betty Ann and James Lewis Patrick (deceased). She is survived by her daughter, Betty Dean of Harrodsburg; two grandsons, Earl Patrick Dean and James Hadden (Robin) Dean, three great-grandchildren, Garrett Ellis Dean, Luke Alexander Dean and Abby Elizabeth Dean all of Harrodsburg, a special cousin, Louise Bailey, as well as her brother-in-law, Walter Patrick and sister-in-law, Opal Patrick Mayes, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, and was active in WMU. She served her family, her community, and her God with compassion, kindness and love.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 13, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Friday, September 14, 7:00 – 9:00 a.m. at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home and after 10:00 a.m. Friday at Shawnee Run Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at the Shawnee Run Baptist Church on Friday, September 14, at 11:30 a.m. with Bro. Ralph Neal and Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial will follow in the Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are family members L.D. Nickles, Jr., William Thompson, Bruce Patterson, Jason Crace, Stephen C. Bailey, Bill Patrick, David Patrick and Scotty Anderson. Honorary pallbearers are Members of the Dorcas Sunday School Class, Betty Motley, Connie Anderson and Betty and Sonny Fain.
Her strength, courage and faith honored her forefathers in her life as well as in her death. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She was a retired Signet employee and a member of South Fork Ridge Baptist Church in Casey County and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joshua Allen Monroe 19, of Yosemite formerly of Burgin died Tuesday September 4, 2007 in an auto accident in Casey County. He was born June 23, 1988 in Lexington to Joseph Allen Monroe of Burgin and Connie Sue Gregory Monroe of Yosemite. A senior at Casey County High School where he served on the prom committee, was a member of F.F.A., Young Marines, former baseball and track participant at Casey County and Burgin. He enjoyed tractor pulls and fishing. Joshua was a member of Burgin Christian Church.
Additional survivors include his maternal grand parents: George Ted Gregory of Burgin and Shirley Gregory of Harrodsburg. Paternal grandparents Allen and Martha Monroe of Burgin. Paternal great grandmother Dora Estes of Burgin, step-mother Pam Monroe of Burgin, twin brother Joseph Aaron Monroe of Yosemite, step brother Justin Lear of Burgin. One sister Gerria Nichole Monroe of Burgin. A step sister Tiffney Lear of Burgin. One special cousin Chris Wexler of Burgin and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Friday September 8, 2007 at Burgin Christian Church with Mandy Yates officiating. Interment will be in Burgin Memorial Gardens with Derrick Brady, Bobby Williams, Bobby Todd Richards, Josh Peavler, Matthew Monroe, and Tyler Long serving as active pallbearers. Mrs. Willa B. Meredith Lear, 97, widow of Thomas Meredith Lear died Saturday, August 25, 2007 at the Sayre Christian Village in Lexington. Born February 23, 1910 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Fannie Duncan Meredith. She was a homemaker and a member of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church.
Mrs. Lear is survived by her two daughters: Peggy (Joe) Russell and Barbara Carpenter both of Lexington, and her son: Meredith (Glenda) Lear of Louisville. Eight grandchildren: Luann Johnson, Lisa Knapp, and Steven Lear of Louisville; Wade Carpenter, Kristy Gray, and Tommy Russell of Lexington; Kim Hunter of Watkinsville, GA., and Linda Terranova of Otis, MA. Several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren Kathy White and David Lee Lear.

William G. Dearing, Jr., 55 of Harrodsburg died Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at his residence. Born February 24, 1952 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William G. and Thelma Bottoms Dearing. He was a mechanic, a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as Bus Driver, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, autoracing, Kentucky basketball, and attending truck pulls.
Survivors include his son Michael Ray Henderson of Lexington, one grandson Zander Henderson of Paris, KY., three sisters: Mary Bush, Janice (Keith) Albright, and Wanda (Michael) Infield all of Harrodsburg. Three brothers: Omer (Rosalie) Drury of Harrodsburg, Stanley (Lisa) Drury of Warsaw, Kentucky, and Tony (Nancy) Dearing of Harrodsburg. Fiancée Phyllis Hampton of Harrodsburg, one aunt Edith Dearing of Harrodsburg, several nieces and nephews, and his Yorkie dog Amy.
