Mallie Burkhart Denny, 70, of Burgin, wife of Jimmy G. Denny, died Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born February 6, 1937 in Letcher County, she was the daughter of the late James and Cora Day Burkhart. She was a homemaker and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church. Mallie loved gardening; reading and more recently enjoyed listening to her many books on tape.
Besides her husband, she is survived by five daughters: Margaret (Michael) Franchere of Campbellsville, Barbara Jean (Leroy) Lyons of Harrodsburg, Cathy Jo Derringer of Harrodsburg, Robin (David) Bennett of Burgin, and Patricia Moberly of Lancaster. Three sons: Carl Griffith of Crab Orchard, Tony Denny of Adairville, GA., and Jimmy (Christy) Denny, Jr. of Lancaster. One sister Mackey McClemens of Lexington, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Harold Best officiating. Burial will be in Burgin Memorial Gardens with Dexter East, Mike Franchere, Russell Denny, Anthony Woodard, Tony Denny, Dustin Derringer, Daniel Derringer, Nellus Estes, and Joe Denny serving as active pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and after 7:00 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Kentucky Foundation for the Blind.

Mrs. Margaret Divine Shepherd, 81, wife of Dewey Shepherd, died Monday, November 5, 2007 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor. Born August 7, 1926 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Grace Norvell Divine. She attended Perryville School, was the former owner of Webb Kentucky Food Stores and was a former clerk at Walter S. Frankel in Mitchellsburg and Danville. She was a member of Burgin Baptist Church, a 46 year member of The Order of Eastern Star, a devoted wife, mother and Christian homemaker. She was a quiet and private lady. Additional survivors besides her husband include one daughter, Connie (Jerry) Shepherd of Harrodsburg; one brother, Danny Divine of Perryville; two sisters, Cleo Watts of Upper Marlboro, Maryland and Mae Selby of Versailles; three grandchildren, Shayne (Sonny) Jarman, Christy (Steve) Templeton, and Tab (Christina) Shepherd and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Webb and two sisters, Aileen Murphy and Ruth Crain.

Leon Keeling, 89, 142 Robards Court, Harrodsburg, died Thursday, November 1, 2007 at his home. Born October 4, 1918 in Washington County, he was a son of the late Ruel and Elsie Jewell Shewmaker Keeling, and was the husband of Imogene Buster Keeling.
He was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church where he served as deacon, elder, board chairman, and Sunday School teacher. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre of Operations (ETO), and for more than fifty years worked for the Harrodsburg Herald as advertising salesman, reporter, photographer, columnist, and news editor.
In addition to his wife, the survivors include two daughters, Carole Ann (Elmer) Congleton of Nicholasville, Donna Jean (Dave) Butler of Berea and two grandchildren, Brittney Congleton of Lexington and Jana Congleton of Nicholasville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Morrison Keeling, Louisville, and Lynn Keeling, Springfield.
Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2007 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with the Rev. Phil Williams and Rev. Mark Thompson officiating. Burial in Spring Hill Cemetery
with Jim Sharp, Chris Searcy, Larry Royalty, Larry Cotton, Danny Chilton, and Bobby Trisler serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of the Harrodsburg Herald.

Gene Monroe 62, husband of Kathy Gayle Hill Monroe of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday October 30, 2007 at his residence. Born October 31, 1944 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Sid and Margie Taylor Monroe. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a carpenter at Shakertown and was a member of Centennial Baptist Church in Danville. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Additional survivors besides his wife include: three sons: Michael (Jasmine) Mondroe of Pineville, James (Heather) Monroe of Harrodsburg and Nicholas Monroe of Harrodsburg; one brother: Allen (Martha) Monroe of Burgin; two sisters: Betty Tackett of Harrodsburg and Mary Alma Carmack of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren: Hannah, Emily and Mia Monroe and several nieces and nephews.

Christopher Dewayne Lewis, 11, died Monday, October 29, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born January 7, 1996 in Lexington, he was the son of Bruce Phillips of Burgin and Crystal Lewis (Clay Cocanougher) Gilbert of Harrodsburg. Christopher was a Fifth Grader at Burgin Elementary School and was a member of the Shakertown Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, basketball, and hunting.
Besides his parents, Christopher is survived by two brothers: Daniel Lewis and Eric Dale Gilbert and one sister Chelsea Lewis all of Harrodsburg. Maternal grandmother Brenda Lewis of Harrodsburg, maternal grandparents Richard (Sue) Lewis of Burgin. Paternal grandmother Shirleen Phillips of Burgin, maternal great grandparents James and Myrtle Lewis of Harrodsburg, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal great grandparents Homer and Mary Phillips and materal great grandmother Dorothy Poynter.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Joe Smith and Danny Broce officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery
with Chris Caton, Donny Judge, Evan Cocanougher, James Motley, Donnie Cocanougher, Gregory Devine, and Justin Lilly serving as pallbearers.

William Robert Dean, 84, husband of Nancy Dean, Harrodsburg, died Sunday, October 28, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born April 13, 1923 in Mercer County he was the son of the late Charlie B. and Josephine Roberts Dean. He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Marines, a retired Veteran of the United States Navy, and a retired Corning Incorporated employee. He has been a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church since he was a child and served as a Deacon and was a member of the Service Men’s Sunday School Class. He enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening. Additional survivors besides his wife include: his mother-in-law: Ada Landon of Keyser, West Virginia; two sons: William R. (Denise) Dean, Jr. of Nicholasville and Charles F. (Michelle) Dean of Harrodsburg; three daughters: Linda (Steve) Bokros and Lois Ann (Mike) Cruce-Pasley, both of Nicholasville and Nancy Josephine Dean of Lexington; one brother: James F. (Kirki) Dean of Gallatin, Tennessee; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers: Harvey, Owen, Don, Paul, and Tommy Dean and one grandson: Joseph Bokros.

Ralph Duane Perkins, 42, died Saturday, October 27, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born February 25, 1965 in Shelbyville, he was the son of Ralph and Betty Perkins of Harrodsburg. He was an employee of Cecil Brothers and Yeager. He was a member of Pioneer Baptist Church, a UK fan, a KY Colonel and enjoyed hunting. He was a 1984 graduate of Mercer County High School where he played basketball. Additional survivors besides his parents include one daughter: Maggie McClay Vandivier of Harrodsburg; two sisters: Jamie King (Rick) Pinkston and Dana Perkins (Louis) Simpson both of Lawrenceburg; two step-sisters: Donna Stafford of Danvillea and Lisa Sebastian of Lancaster; three nieces and one nephew, all of Lawrenceburg.

Born October 10, 1956 in Berwick, Pennsylvania, he was a laborer who loved to travel and loved animals, especially his cat Rasha. Survivors include mother and step-father, Sally and Gary Bodemuller of Salvisa; one sister, Chris (Jerry) Michaleson of Nashville; three nephews, Jeremey Michaelson, Josh Michaelson, and Jacob Michaelson; one niece, Jill Michaelson; one great-nephew, Eric Michaelson and one great-niece, Rachel Michaelson. Mrs. Donna Watts McGinnis, 57, of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born June 24, 1950 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of Rose Harlow Watts of Harrodsburg and the late Lewis Watts. She was a retired Maintenance Administrator for BellSouth in Louisville.
Donna enjoyed reading, embroidery, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her talents with various crafts won her many ribbons at the Mercer County Fair. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Eco Homemakers Club.
Besides her mother, Donna is survived by her son Franklin Shaun (Wendy) McGinnis of Mercer County; her daughter Sonya “Sissy” (Patrick) Brock of Mercer County. One brother Gary (Joyce) Watts of Mercer County, one sister Betty (Gerald) Carter of Franklin, KY., four grandchildren: Shaunesy Brooke McGinnis, William Evan Likins, Bronson Douglas McGinnis, and Levi Thompson Brock. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
A Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 27 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Geoff Barrett and Danny Sallee officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until hour of service at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Mrs. Nellie Denny Pierce, 93, widow of Herman Pierce, died Monday, October 15, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care. Born January 1, 1914 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Mary Belle Grow Denny. She was a graduate of the Danville School of Practical Nursing. She was a retired Kentucky State Hospital LPN, a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and was an avid reader. Survivors include her son, Dennis L. Pierce and his wife Janet of Danville; two daughters: Naomi Green and her husband, Edwin Harrison of Charlotte, North Carolina and Jacqueline Foster and her husband, Hugh Thomas of Shelbyville; nine grandchildren, five step grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Ray Pierce.

Inez Henrietta Myers, 79, died Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor. Born March 18, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio she was the daughter of the late Harry Clifford and Hazel Margaret Losey Myers. She was an employee of Western Southern Life Insurance in Cincinnati and attended Pioneer Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Mercer County Senior Citizens and enjoyed playing Rook when there. Survivors include her sister, Valletta McCoun of Harrodsburg; two nieces, Karen Perkins of Perryville and Deb Brown of Stanford; one nephew, Ken McCoun of Richmond, her caregiver, Sarah Ramos and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Michael Lynn Price, 25, Grayson, Kentucky died Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the Kings Daughters Memorial Center in Ashland. Born December 10, 1981 in Mercer County, he was the son of Billy and Sharon Kaye Ryan Price, both of Danville. He was a graduate of Carter County High School, he liked country music, hunting and fishing. He was a clerk. Additional survivors besides his parents include maternal grandfather, Jack Ryan, Jr. of Danville; paternal grandmother, Mary Cummins Bishop of Greensburg; one brother, B.J. Price and his wife, Victoria, of Junction City; one sister, Daphine Woodrum and her husband, Todd, of Stanford and three nieces.

Albert “Bud” Stumph, Jr., 77, of Harrodsburg died Wednesday October 10, 2007 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Born September 5, 1930 in Mackville, he was the son of the late Albert Joseph and Nannie Lou Darland Stumph. He retired from Signet in Harrodsburg and most recently had worked as a Tinsmith at Old Fort Harrod State Park. Bud enjoyed farming, fishing, listening to country music, and visiting with friends during breakfast every morning at McDonalds.
Survivors include his six children: Donnie (Susan) Stumph of Junction City, Gary (Lillie) Stumph of Harrodsburg, Teresa (Dale) Miller of Mercer County, Belinda Gay Devine of Harrodsburg, Debbie (Hobert) Combs of Mercer County, Karen Stumph of Stanford, and their mother Barbara Ann Stumph of Harrodsburg. Two sisters: Bertie Mae Todd of Seattle and June Green of Harrodsburg; two brothers: Donald Eugene Stumph of Harrodsburg and Sammie D. Stumph of Mackville. Seventeen grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons: Donald Dwayne Stumph, Stephen Stumph; one son-in-law Dickie Yates, one sister Wanda Warner and one brother Bill Stumph.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Matthew Atha and George Dye officiating. Burial will be in Peters Cemetery
in Mackville with Troy Combs, Anthony Byrd, Timmy Combs, Danny Ray Stumph, Travis Miller, Joey Stumph, and Timmy Stumph serving as active pallbearers. Born November 11, 1946 in Louisville, he was the son of the late Mary Lilly Bowman Ashlock. He was a former Hitachi temporary worker and enjoyed walking and sports.
