HARRISON FARTHING
Harrison Charles Farthing, 85, husband of Eva Craig Farthing, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Dec. 6, 1925 in Rock Falls, IL, he was the son of the late Harrison M. and Mildred Fisher Farthing.
He was a World War II Navy Veteran, a member of the VFW, American Legion and the D.A.V. He was a retired member of the Steamfitters Local Union of 452, Lexington. He enjoyed fishing and deer hunting.
In addition to his wife of 65 years, he is survived by three sons: Jack Farthing of Danville and Jerry and Jim Farthing of Burgin; three grandsons: Tab Farthing and Casey Farthing, both of Mercer County and J. Chris Farthing of Danville; a granddaughter, Sharon Willmarth of Dallas, TX; three great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter.
Services were conducted Saturday, June 4 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lester Tirey and Dr. Ralph Neal officiating. Burial was in the Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Tab, Chris and Casey Farthing, Donnie Webb, Ricky Craig and Mark Harlow.
Members of the V.F.W. and the American Legion served as honorary pallbearers.
GEORGE FOSTER
George “GT” Foster, 90, of Harrodsburg, widower of Dorothy Peavler Foster, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at his residence.
Born Sunday, May 15, 1921 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Willie Leonard Foster.
He worked in insurance and was a school bus driver for the Danville School System for many years. He was a member of the Lexington Avenue Baptist Church in Danville and a U.S. Navy veteran having served in World War II. He enjoyed gardening, canoeing and attending church. He was active in the Mercer County 4-H program and loved working with and teaching children. He also volunteered with the Mercer County Extension program and the United Way.
He is survived by his extended family: Bobbie White, Amanda (Daniel) Stratton, Jerry Reynolds, Shiann and Searra Stratton, all of Harrodsburg; a granddaughter, Michelle Tucker of Lexington; a nephew, Tommy (Martha Fay) Foster of Danville and a daughter-in-law, Margie Foster of Lexington.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Keith Foster; a sister, Violet Shewmaker and a brother, B. O. Foster.
Services were held Sunday, June 5 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville, with Dr. Thomas Valentine and Rev. Jo Garnett officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Pallbearers were Roy Comic, Kenneth Walls, George White, Marvon Smith, Bill Johnson, Gentry Akin, Edward Clark, Lee Garnett, Don Marston and Gene Mallory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mercer County 4-H or the Lexington Avenue Baptist Church of Danville.
PAUL JENKINS
Paul Kevin Jenkins, 49, of Danville, husband of Marcia Lankford Jenkins, died Thursday, June 2, 2011.
Born June 9, 1961 in Boyle County, he was the son of Dudley and Doris Carr Jenkins.
He was a previous employee of American Greetings and was most recently employed at Corning Glass. He was a member of Shakertown Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and golfer and enjoyed yard work.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Aaron Kyle Jenkins of Lexington; a brother, Donald (Fawn) Jenkins of Lewiston, PA; a uncle, Donald (Emma) Haydon of Danville; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Edna Lankford of Danville; brother and sister-in-laws, Travis (Jamie) Pankey, Mike (Jennie) Sluder and Diane Foley; three nephews and three nieces.
Services were held Tuesday, June 7 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Smith officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery
in Danville.
Pallbearers were: Travis Pankey, Mark Curtsinger, Ronnie Huffman, Steve Wiley, Larry Gatton, Shaun Coffman, Mike Hume, Denver Coulter and David Logue.
JAMES KEELING
James Cecil Keeling, 84, of Burgin, died Sunday, June 5, 2011 at his residence.
Born September 16, 1927 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Cecil and Rose Fowler Keeling.
He was a retired U.S. Navy Chief. While serving, he received the Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, American Theatre Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was a former television repairman. He was a member of the Burgin Baptist Church where he was a long-time greeter. He served as an election officer and was a lifetime member of the Cavite Lodge No. 2, F&AM.
He is survived by a sister, Juanita (Bob) Moss of Harrodsburg; a brother, Curtis (Anna Ruth) Keeling of Burgin and several nieces and nephews.
Services conducted 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 8 at the Burgin Baptist Church with Bro. Carl McCray officiating and burial in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Billy Lucas, Jason Lucas, Daniel Lucas, Lynn Moss, Cecil Keeling and Bill Waggener.
Honorary pallbearers: Keith Moss and David Keeling.
TAMMY MCBETH
Tammy Black McBeth, 45, of Gulfport, FL died May 19, 2011 at the Palms of Pasadena Hospital in Florida.
Born in Kentucky, she was the daughter of Helen Devine Black of Gulfport, FL and the late Zelbert “Bud” Black Jr. She was a member of Temple Heights Baptist Church in Tampa, FL.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a brother, Danny L. (Raquel) Black of St. Petersburg, FL; a daughter, Halee Morgan McBeth of Floral City, FL; two aunts, Loretta Casey and Jenny (Joe) Burton, both of Harrodsburg; an uncle, Donald J. Devine of Harrodsburg and many cousins.
Services were held Thursday, May 26 at Woodlawn Cemetery
in FL.
FRANCES MCCORMICK
Frances McCormick, 83, of Winter Park, FL, died Friday, June 3, 2011 at her home.
Born September 30, 1927 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Clarence and Clara Mae Hendren Steele. She was a retired sales clerk.
Survivors include two daughters, Debi (Marty) Steinbrecher of Highland, CA and Misty (Andy) Nicholas of CO; three sons: Jim (Cherli) Devine of College Park, FL, Charles Devine of CA, Richard (Kathy) McCormick of Winter Park, FL; four sisters: Loretta Hammons of Crestview, Annetta Mobley of OH, Margaret Steele of Lexington, Linda Lingenfelter of Richmond; two brothers, Leonard Steele of Harrodsburg and and Eugene Steele of OH; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 9 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with burial in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers are: Eugene Hammons, Charles Devine, Marty Steinbrecher, Jeffrey Eastin, John Roach and David Cheak.
Visitation is Thursday, June 9 from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, Harrodsburg.

JEAN REYNOLDS
Jean Carpenter Reynolds, 74, of Perryville. died Monday May 30, 2011 in Danville.
Born April 18, 1937, in Boyle County, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Mabel Gray Carpenter. She was the widow of Ruel Reynolds.
She was a member of Doctors Fork Baptist Church and a former employee of Hub Frankel and Boyle County Board of Education. Jean loved her family; one of her greatest joys was taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include: one son, Chris (LaDawn) Reynolds of Versailles; one daughter-in-law, Rosemary Reynolds of Perryville; one sister, Connie (George) Gibson of Mercer County; one brother, Bobby (Brenda) Carpenter of Mercer County; one stepbrother, Hobert (Marilyn) Cheatham of Mercer County; three grandchildren, Kent, Aubrey and Trevor Reynolds; and three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Emily and Bailey Reynolds.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, Terry Reynolds, a sister, Barbara Strevels and a brother, Jimmie Carpenter.
Services were conducted Saturday, June 5, at the Wilder Funeral Home by Rev. Gary Storey. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kent Reynolds, Brent, Jacob and George Gibson, Brian and Corey Carpenter and Clay Hardwick.
Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Heritage Hospice.
BESSIE TYSON
Bessie E. Tyson, 88, of Pfafftown, NC and widow of Willie A. Tyson, died Sunday, June 5, 2011.
Born in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Price and Hattie Belle Dunn.
She is survived by: one son, Brian (Stacey) Tyson of Lexington; one daughter, Sheila Reynolds of NC; siblings, Doris (Ted) Padgett, NJ and Otley Dunn of NY; as well as eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, at Milward-Man O' War, 1509 Trent Blvd., Lexington.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time.
Memorials may be made to the United Negro College Fund.
RONALD WHITE
Ronald “Ronnie” White, 67, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Feb. 3, 1944 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late George E. and Sarah Yate s White.
He was a 1962 graduate of Harrodsburg High School and received a football scholarship to Knoxville College. He served during the Vietname War in the U.S. Navy and was a telephone sales representative in New York.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald White of NY and Jason White of SC; a sister, Evone Young of Atlanta; an uncle, James Foster Reese and several cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Sleet.
Services were conducted Wednesday, June 8 at the First Baptist Church. Rev. Virgil Hill and Rev. James Foster Reese officiated. Burial with military honors was in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
GEORGE BARNES
George Washington “G. W.” Barnes, 79, of Harrodsburg, husband of Betty Jo Long Barnes, died Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born Feb. 23, 1932 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late John and Etta Tyler Barnes.
He was a retired Hallmack employee and a farmer. He was a member of the Berea Christian Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Dan) Whittaker and a son, George Melvin (Melody) Barnes, all of Mercer County; two sisters, Ina Pendegrist of Perryville and Virginia Curtsinger; a brother, Elmer Barnes of Mercer County; three grandchildren: Brian Stewart, Brent Stewart and Rebekah Barnes and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Barnes.
Services were held Monday, June 13 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with John Westerfield and Elwood Norton officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Jeff Bradley, James Barnes, James Brooks, Bruce Hogue, Joe Smith and Chad Pinkston.
JAMES BOTTOM
James “Jimmy” Cleveland Bottom, 65, of Gravel Switch, died Thursday in Danville. He was the husband of Louise Hafley Bottom.
Born June 19, 1945, in Boyle County, he was a son of the late James and Zelma Lee Elliott Bottom Quinn.
He worked as a construction engineer. He was a consultant for many companies designing bridges all across Kentucky. He and his wife Louise are the caretakers of the Aliceton Holiness Camp Ground. He was a member of the Gravel Switch Methodist Church.
Jimmy loved his grandchildren with all his heart. In his spare time, Jimmy loved frog giggin’ and turtle juggin’ and having a good time enjoying life. Later in life his grandchildren and his loving wife of 46 years were his world.
In addition to his wife Louise, he is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Bonita Cheryl (Rob) Pingleton of Parksville, and Jennifer Carol (Doug) Sargent-Holt of Gravel Switch; one son and his wife, Elliott Scott (Heather) Bottom of Kentucky; four brothers, Jerry Quinn of Mitchellsburg, Timmy Bottom of Deep Creek, Randy Bottom of Campbellsville and Ricky Pike of Springfield; and nine grandchildren, Rachel and Matt Pingleton, Christopher and Natasha Sargent, and Vanessa, Erica, Jasmine, Elizabeth and Jimmy Bottom. Also surviving are Jimmy’s stepmother, Jewel Bottom of Harrodsburg; a niece, Brittany Bottom; and two nephews, Chris Quinn and Chris Bottom.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Pearl Bottom; a brother, Jackie Bottom; and his stepfather, Elton Quinn
A private celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank all friends and family for their love and support during this most difficult time.
