ORPHA P. PATTERSON
HARPER ญญ Orpha P. Patterson, 75, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at Harper Hospital in Harper.
She was born Sept. 23, 1927, to John and Margerite (Corzine) Long in Beaver County in Oklahoma.
She married James Melvin "Pat" Patterson March 28, 1944. He died in 1996.
She lived in Beaver County until teh age of 7, then moving with her family to a farm 13 miles east of Liberal.
She helped on the farm.
Survivors include two sons, James Patterson and wife, Sharon, Garden City, and John Patterson and wife, Sue, Harper; two sisters, Elizabeth Orde, Harper, and Audrey "Lambly" Glenn, Hooker, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Marguerite "Maggie" Troyer in 1995; two brothers, Frank and John Long; and three sisters, Mary, Margie and Ruby.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Dec. 30, at the Elliott Funeral Home Chapel in Harper, Okla., with Pastor Jerrold Scribner presiding.
Burial was at the Spring Grove Cemetery
in Anthony, Okla.
Memorials are suggested to the Harper Hospital.
DONALD R. STRANGE
INDIANAPOLIS ญญ Donald R. Strange, 81, formerly of Orleans, died Dec. 21, 2002, at University Heights Health Center in Greenwood.
He was born Aug. 6, 1921, to Raymond F. and Pearl E. (Burgess) Strange in Orange County.
He married Joan H McCord May 1, 1951. She survives.
He retired after 34 years at Paoli Chair Company.
He was a member of Bethany Christian Church in Indianapolis.
Other survivors include two sons, Mark Strange, Liberal, and David Ray Strange, Greenwood; one daughter, Ellen Marie Sheets, Indianapolis; three sisters, Dorothy Fisher and Mary L. Limp, both of Orleans, and Margaret A Magner, Converse; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at Orleans Christian Church with the Brothers Nelson Lee and Mike Crosley presiding.
Burial followed at Stampers Creek Cemetery
in Paoli.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Epilepsy Foundation, 4351 Garden City Dr., Landover, MD 20785-7223.
CECELIA J. HOWARD
Cecelia J. Howard, 93, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born Aug. 23, 1909, to Ira and Elizabeth E. (Ryan) Clarkson.
She married Wesley J. Howard Feb. 25, 1933, in Satanta. He preceded her in death.
She traveled west with her family in a covered wagon.
She graduated from high school in Phoenix. She received her teaching degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Okla. She taught for 38 years, beginning in one-room schools in Woods, Moscow, and Prospect No. 1 for eight years.
After moving to Liberal, she taught for 30 years in USD 480 school district at Garfield and McDermott elementaries.
She was a member of National Education Association, Kansas Education Association, and Retired Teachers Association. She served two terms as President of Seward County Teachers Association.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal.
She taught oil and water color painting at Baker Arts Center for many years.
Her hobbies included travelling.
Survivors include her caregivers, Cecelia, Nora and Ashley Laird, all of Liberal; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and four sisters.
Rosary and Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Miller Chapel in Liberal
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal with the Father Patrick Keyes presiding.
Cremation is planned.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.
Friends may call to sign the register book from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

CALVIN FREEBURNE
Calvin Freeburne, 42, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at his residence in Liberal.
He was born July 22, 1960, to Myron and Betty (Thouvenell) Freeburne in Newton.
He had been a resident of Liberal the past 12 years.
Survivors include mis mother, Wellington; one daughter, Jessica Freeburne; Martin, Mich.; three brothers, Mike Freeburne, Wichita, and Jay Freeburne and David Freeburne, both of Wellington; and two sisters, Debbie Mulvaney, Attica, and Linda Scott, Chanute.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Liberal Cemetery
with the Rev. Ken Willard presiding.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal.

VENANCIO RAMIREZ
ULYSSES ญญ Venancio Ramirez, 47, died Jan. 1, 2003, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born May 18, 1955, to Santos and Maria Teresa (Ramirez) Ramirez at Dr. Arroyo N.L., Mexico.
He married Ciria Landeros Feb. 8, 1977, at Dr. Arroyo N.L, Mexico. She survives.
He had been a resident of Ulysses since 1987, working for Tarbet Construction in Ulysses.
He was a member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.
Other survivors include his parents; two sons, Venancio Ramirez Jr. and Carlos Ramirez, Ulysses; one daughter, Maria Ramirez, Ulysses; seven brothers, Juan Pablo Ramirez, Arizona, Seferino Ramirez, Reynario Ramirez, Jose Angle Ramirez, Andres Ramirez, Jaime Ramirez, and Juan Ramirez Jr., all of Ulysses; four sisters, Consolacion Garcia, Ulysses, Virginia Martinez, California, and Ermila Sanchez and Hortencia Ramirez, both of Ulysses; and two grandchildren.
Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. today at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.
Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Louis Hoang presiding.
Burial will follow at Ulysses Cemetery
in Ulysses.
Friends may call today until service time Saturday at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.

PAULINE SCOTT
Pauline Scott, 60, Liberal, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born Feb. 7, 1942, to Virgil R. and Opal L. (Taylor) Gift in Hardesty, Okla.
She married James A. Scott in 1958, in Spearman, Texas. He survives.
She moved to Liberal as a young girl and attended Liberal High School.
She had worked at the Petroleum Club and the Liberal Inn.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Liberal.
Other survivors include two sons, Greg Scott, Liberal, and Steve Scott, San Anselmo, Calif.; one daughter, Katherine Underwood, Liberal; one brother, Floyd Dale Gift, Wills Point, Texas; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, James.
Memorial services will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Miller Chapel in Liberal.
Burial will take place at a later date.
Cremation is planned.
