PATRICIA J. OBHOLZ
GARLAND, Texas -- Patricia June Obholz, 65, former Liberal resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at her home.
She was born Sept. 11, 1937, in Garden City.
She married Larry Obholz Sr. May 9, 1957. He died in May 2001.
She owned and operated the El Kan Beauty Shop for many years. She and her husband also owned Obholz Meat, Obholz Grocery and C & O Rathole. She and her husband moved from Liberal to Dallas in 1994.
Survivors include one son, Larry Obholz Jr, Arlington, Texas; three daughters, Debbie Wallis, Richardson, Texas, Pam Obholz, Riodosa, N.M., and Vicki Rine, Carrollton, Texas; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack Jacobs; and one sister, Dinah Caldwell.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Leslie Jacobs in May 2001.
Funeral services will be at noon Friday at Eastgate Funeral Home in Garland.
Eastgate Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
MARLENE CHAPPELL
MCPHERSON -- Marlene "Nutter" Chappell, 63, former Liberal resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at her home in McPherson.
She was born Jan. 30, 1939, to Cecil Nutter and Ernestine L. Gilles in Republic County.
She married Richard Brown. He died July 24, 2001.
She attended area country schools and graduated from Concordia High School in Concordia.
She worked as a police and fire dispatch for the town of Hooker, Okla. After moving to McPherson, she started as a pharmaceutical assistant for Sterling Drug Company on Jan. 9, 1978. She stayed on with Abbott Laboratories when they took over operations. She was currently on medical leave.
Survivors include her mother, Agenda; two sons, Robert "Bob" Brown and Brad Brown, both of McPherson; two daughters, Rebecca Hoesli, and Nancy Brown, McPherson; one brother, Charles Nutter, Talmo; one sister, Imogene Rouse, Roswell, N.M.; three grandchildren, Jacob and Heath Hoesli and Trey Brown.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Glidden-Ediger Chapel in McPherson with the Pastor Robert H. Park presiding.
Cremation will follow the service and the burial of cremains will occur at a later date.
Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday, with family present from 6-8 p.m., at Glidden-Ediger Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the A.L.S. Association -- Keith Worthington Chapter in care of Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid St., McPherson, KS 67460.
TONY R. ARNOLD
Johnson -- Tony R. Arnold, 18, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in Johnson.
He was born Sept. 16, 1984, to Steve and Kathleen (Bergkamp) Arnold in Johnson.
He was a senior at Stanton County High School in Johnson and was senior class president.
He participated in cross country, four years; golf team, two years; track, one year; HALO, one year; and Scholars Bowl, four years. He was on the Outstanding Student List and was the SCHS light and sound coordinator for all activities.
He was a member of the Sunflower 4-H Club, Kansas 4-H Aerospace Action Experience Team, and participated in space camps. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 145, where he obtained a Life Scout Rank, was a senior patrol leader and was voted by his peers as Order of the Arrow.
Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Travis and Andy Arnold; one sister, Tracy Arnold; and one unborn sibling, all of Johnson; grandparents, Wilfred and Anna Bergkamp, Colwich, and Earl and Judy Arnold, Johnson; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Rosary services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.
Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Stanton County High School Auditorium in Johnson with the Revs. Louis Hoang and Glenn Fogo presiding.
Burial will follow at Stanton County Cemetery
in Johnson.

CODY D. OLSON
WICHITA -- Cody Dean Olson, infant, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.
He was born Aug. 24, 2002, to Wendy D. Olson in Wichita.
Survivors include his mother, Wichita; grandmother, Linda Olson, Wichita; and great-grandmother, Marian Feller, Kiowa.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. today at Miller Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. Rex Petty presiding.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery.
ERIN P. ARMSTRONG
Erin Patrick Armstrong, the infant son of Jon and Lynette Armstrong of Liberal, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
Other survivors include two brothers, Jace and Dawson Armstrong, both of the home; grandparents, Steve Armstrong and Beverly Olney, Baker, Okla., John Warren, Satanta, and Dale and Diane Delka, Beloit; and great-grandparents, Olive Delka, Superior, Neb., J.D. and Dorothy Armstrong, Liberal, Encarnacion and Rita Maturey, Satanta, and Lavern and Shirley Holtmeier, Rockville, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Patty Warren.
Private services were conducted Saturday at Dudley Township Cemetery
in Satanta with the Rev. Andrew Wehling presiding.

REX M. ANDERSON
RICHFIELD -- Rex M. "Mike" Anderson, 55, former Richfield and Rolla resident, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Robert Doyle VA Hospital in Wichita.
He was born Aug. 31, 1947, to Harold and Hope (Chambers) Anderson in Liberal.
He married Myrla Trahern June 21, 1968, in Rolla. She survives.
He went to Rolla Grade School and graduated from Rolla High School in Rolla. He attended three years of college at Fort Hays State University in Hays.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He was a farmer.
He was a member of United Methodist Church in Richfield and Paralyzed Veterans of America.
His hobbies included tilling soil and watching crops grow and spending time with his family.
Other survivors include his mother, Rolla; one son, Trex Anderson and wife, Amber, Augusta; two daughters, Mendee Anderson and Marcee Anderson, both of Augusta; three brothers, Harold "Ike" Anderson, Truesdale, Bobby Anderson and wife, Mague, Rolla, and Thaine Anderson and wife, Janet, Cawker City; six grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Richfield with the Pastor Bob Stout presiding.
Military graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Elmwood Cemetery
in Augusta with the Chaplain Maynard Peterson presiding.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.
JOSEPH C. SPURGIN
Joseph Clarence "J.C." Spurgin, 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at the Liberal Good Samaritan Center.
He was born Feb. 7, 1917, to Donald Owen and Ethel F. (Logwood) Spurgin in Leedy, Okla.
He married Betty VanHuss June 7, 1943, in Woodward, Okla. She died April 4, 1977.
He married Ruby Waber in 1981 in Wichita. She survives.
He worked for the City of Wellington as sexton of the cemetery and later as a truck driver, hauling bulk mail.
Other survivors include one son, Raymond Lee Spurgin, Pratt; two daughters, JoAnn Combs, Turpin, Okla., and Anita Louise Murrain, Liberal; six grandchildren, Butch Gehrer, Susan Plunk, Craig Combs, Lyle Combs, James Spurgin and Mathew Spurgin; nine great-grandchildren, Shannan Gehrer, Kayla Meddock, Amber Nordyke, Jeremy Plunk, Joshua Plunk, Jason Plunk, Brett Combs, Kinzie Spurgin and Kedric Spurgin; and one great-great-grandchild, Jordyn Rose.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Dale Eugene Spurgin and infant son Vernon Clayton Spurgin.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. Rex Petty presiding.
Cremation has taken place.
DIXIE J. BARNHART
Dixie J. Barnhart, 67, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born May 25, 1935, to Willard K. and Jessie M. (Bromwell) Henry in Plains.
She married Marvin Wilson in Plains.
She married Jim Barnhart in 1990. He died Feb. 28, 1993.
She graduated from Plains High School and later attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson.
She lived in Ulysses, Denver and Truth or Conseqences, N.M., and returned to Liberal in 2002.
She was a member of South Church of God in Liberal, Order of Eastern Star and Kiwanis Club.
Her hobbies included arts and crafts and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her mother, Jessie McDermott, Liberal; two sons, Don Wilson and wife, Susy, Healy, and Gene Wilson Jr., and wife, Kimberly, Ulysses; three daughters, Mary Jane Shockley and husband, Bobby, and Marvina Rae Mobly, all of Alva, Okla., and Katherine Marie McDonald and husband, William, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; three brothers, Larry Henry, Colorado Springs, Colo., Sam Henry, Oklahoma City, and Kent Henry, Aurora, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her father, one brother, and one sister.
Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at South Church of God in Liberal with the Rev. David Hellmig presiding.
Inurnment will be at Ft. Logan Cemetery
in Denver at a later date.
