ELMER C. DAY
Elmer C. Day, 65, Liberal, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born June 6, 1937, to Pete and Ethel F. (Overholt) Day in Covington, Okla.
He married Marilyn F. Fultz in August, 1959, in Blackwell, Okla. She died April 22, 1996.
He lived in Blackwell for many years, and moved to Liberal in 1968.
He was a truck driver for Nichols and Yellow Freight and a school bus driver for USD 480.
Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Jones and husband, Boyd, Beaver, Okla.; one brother, George Weber, Blackwell, Okla.; three sisters, Minnie Marrs, Kansas City, Mo., Doris Tedder, Salina, Okla., and Lynn McMaughlin, Glendale, Ariz.
There are no services planned at this time. The body was donated to Kansas Medical University.
Miller Mortuary in Liberal is in charge of arrangements.
EDWIN E. KOBS
MEADE --Edwin E. Kobs, 89, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at Meade District Hospital in Meade.
He was born Sept. 18, 1912, to Ernest Andrew and Martha Jane (Butler) Kobs in rural Meade County.
He married Ethel Marie Bruington June 4, 1932, in Meade. She survives.
A lifetime resident of Meade, he was a retired farmer and rancher.
He graduated from Meade High School in 1931.
He was a member of United Methodist Church and Webb Lodge No. 275 A.F. and A.M., both in Meade, the Wichita Scottish Rite Consistory as an honorary K.C.C.H. and Midian Shrine, both in Wichita.
Other survivors include one son, Bill Kobs, Meade; two daughters, Wilma Pennington, Meade, and Charlene Keen, Lewis; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Meade with the Rev. Chuck Mattix presiding.
Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery
in Meade.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade

ELSIE C. DUNHAM
COPELAND -- Elsie C. Dunham, 95, former Copeland resident, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, in Aurora, Colo.
She was born Dec. 24, 1906, to John and Nellie (Bentley) Dunham in Isabel.
She was a school teacher and taught mostly third and fourth grade for 46 years. She taught around Copeland, Dodge City, Pueblo, Colo. and Venezuela.
Survivors include one sister, Laurel Grace McAdam, Las Vegas, Nev.; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Everett Dunham, Ralph Dunham and Dillard Dunham; and one sister, Lydia Fleming.
Funeral services will be Saturday in Aurora.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Copeland Cemetery
in Copeland.

EREK ALEXANDER
Erek Alexander, 7, Liberal, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson.
He was born June 11, 1995, to Kevin and Julissa Alexander in Liberal.
He was a lifelong resident of Liberal.
He was attending second grade at McKinley Elementary School. He had attended first grade at Southlawn Elementary and Kindergarten at Turpin Grade School in Turpin, Okla. and McKinley Elementary.
His hobbies included singing, playing T-Ball, swimming, playing computer games, watching movies and playing with action figures.
His favorite color was red and his favorite movie was "Harry Potter."
His favorite thing to do was ride on the truck with his papa.
Survivors include his father, Kevin Alexander, Liberal; mother, Julissa Alexander, Overland Park; grandparents, Arden and Dianne Alexander, Liberal, and grandmother, Martha Martinez, Liberal; great-grandfather, Harold Clouse, McCook, Neb., and great-grandfather, Rogelio Martinez, Albuquerque, N.M.; one uncle, Nick Thielbar, Canas, Wash.; two aunts, Joann Hernandez, Liberal, and Nicole Gutierrez, Liberal; and three cousins, Mikal, Esmeralda and Carlos Jose Hernandez, Liberal.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at First Southern Baptist in Liberal with the Pastor Jim Monroe presiding.
The family suggests friends wear bright colors to help celebrate the life of Erek.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal. The family will greet friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

HELEN M. COFFEY
ULYSSES -- Helen M. Coffey, 95, died Aug. 21, 2002, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.
She was born Feb. 11, 1907, to Riley Hess and Lillian (Barney) Miller in Coffeyville.
She married Dr. George McDowell Coffey Aug. 15, 1935, in Ulysses. He died Jan. 1, 1969.
She was a Ulysses resident since 1919.
She graduated from Grant County Rural High School in 1925, and attended Kansas State University, where she received her teaching certificate.
She taught school in rural Grant County and in Holcomb.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Music Club and Writers Guild, all in Ulysses. She was also a homemaker, artist, poet, musician and composer.
Survivors include three sons, Richard H. Coffey and wife, Maxie, Ulysses, Roger D. Coffey and wife, Deanna, Lawrence, and Douglas G. Coffey and wife, Beverly, Waxahachie, Texas; one sister, Frances Wilkes, Hays; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by one son, George M. Coffey Jr.; one daughter, Carolyn L. Coffey; one brother; and one sister.
Funeral services will at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Bill Harrold presiding.
Burial will follow at Ulysses Cemetery
in Ulysses.

ARTHUR S. FRIESEN
MONTEZUMA -- Arthur S. Friesen, 87, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at Bethel Home Inc. in Montezuma.
He was born Nov. 10, 1914, to Johan and Barbara (Sobering) Friesen-Penner in Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada.
He married Lucille Dirks Oct. 29, 1947, in Greensburg. She died June 4, 2002.
After their marriage, he and his wife moved to Dodge City for a short time and then to Atwater, Calif., where they stayed until 1994.
He was an almond farmer in Atwater.
He had been a resident of Bethel Home Inc. in Montezuma since June 6, 1994.
He was a member of Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Montezuma.
Survivors include three daughters, Andree Litwiller and husband, Virgil, Farmington, Ky., Barbara Nightengale and husband, Mark, Scott City, and Cynthia Koehn and husband, Stanley, Scott City; one brother, Jim Friesen, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Henry, Andrew and Abe Friesen; and one sister, Helen Wiebe.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Scott Mennonite Church in Scott City with the Ministers Richard Koehn, Ervin Nightengale, Charles Nightengale and Franklin Koehn presiding.
Burial be at at 11 a.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery
in Greensburg with the Minister Mark Dirks presiding.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.
SHELBY F. WEBB
WICHITA -- Shelby Faith Webb, infant, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at 12:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita.
She was born Aug. 20, 2002, at 7:55 a.m. to Darren and Emily Webb in Wichita.
Survivors include her parents; grandparents, Darrel and Rozelle Webb, Liberal, and Tom Davis, Temple, Texas; great-grandparents, Mary Davis, Des Moins, Iowa, Louis and Dorothy Sweeney, Warsaw, Ind., and Berniece Bruns and Lanora Webb, both of Liberal; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Marjorie Davis.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Asbury United Methodist Church in Wichita with the Minister Dennis Wallace presiding.
