Johnson -- May Elizabeth Jones, 76, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
She was born Dec. 30, 1925, to Martin and Virginia Cross in Corydon, Iowa.
She married Lowell Jones Sept. 18, 1956, in Reno, Nev. He survives.
She had been a resident of Johnson since 1959.
She was a bookkeeper and office manager for L&M Electric and Air Conditioning.
She was a homemaker.
Her hobbies included flower gardening.
Other survivors include one son, John Holder, Wichita; two daughters, Linda Briggs, Rochester, N.Y., and Tina Roark, Garden City; two sisters, Bertha Andrews, De Moines, Iowa, and Goldie Blaylock, Sedalia, Mo.; five grandchildren, Misty Johnson, Michael Roark, Ryan Neuman, Kelly Holder, and Kyle Holder.
She was preceded in death by one son, Edward Holder; three brothers, Charles Cross, Floyd Cross, and Carl Cross; and one sister, Martha Cross.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson with the Rev, Dave Kaufmann presiding.
Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery
in Johnson.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.

LUIS A. ROSALES
JUAN L. ROSALES
Luis Angel Rosales, 20, and his infant son, Juan Luis Rosales, 18 months, both of Liberal, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Luis Rosales was born Aug. 3, 1981, to Filimon and Maria Concepcion (Tavera) Rosales in Woodward, Okla.
He married Elizabeth Lujan in Liberal. She survives.
He graduated from Liberal High School in 1998.
Juan Rosales was born Jan. 23, 2001, to Luis and Elizabeth (Lujan) Rosales in Liberal.
Luis Rosales is also survived by two daughters, Arett and Alin Rosales, both of Liberal; his parents, of Liberal; one brother, Filimon Rosales, Liberal; and four sisters, Maria Concepcion, Maria de Carmen Gallegos, Maria de Carmen Parra and Maria Luisa Espinoza, all of Liberal.
Juan Rosales is survived by his mother; two sisters, Arett and Alin Rosales; and grandparents, Filimon and Maria Rosales, Liberal.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral Mass will be at 4 p.m. today at the St. Anthony Catholic Church, First Street and Prospect, in Liberal with the Father Patrick Keyes presiding.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.
Miller Mortuary in Liberal is in charge of arrangements.
GARY L. KELLEY
Gary L. Kelley, 52, Liberal, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born July 9, 1949, to J.A. and Kathryn M. (Tyson) Kelley in Pampa, Texas.
He married Linda Drake March 15, 1969, in Dimmett, Texas.
He later married Beverly R. Ralston July 6, 1988, in Liberal.
He attended school in Morse, Texas.
As a young man, he ranched in Montana and later worked at a feed yard in Dimmett.
He moved to Liberal in 1984 and was a truck driver for many years. He drove for Permian Corp., Beaver Express and Nichols before retiring.
Survivors include his grandmother, Eunice Tyson, Stinnett, Texas, who raised him; one sister, Carolyn Hodges, Dumas, Texas; two step-sons, Larry McCroskey, Liberal, and Richard McCroskey, Nebraska City, Neb.; and two step-daughters, Sheila Scheibvogel, Liberal, and Ronda Garcia, Liberal.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal with the Rev. David Parker presiding.

ROBERT H. JOYCE
ULYSSES -- Robert Harry Joyce, 84, Ulysses, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born April 25, 1918, to Richard H. and Estell (Towler) Joyce in Ulysses.
He married Myrna Reeves Aug. 28, 1939. She died in 1982.
He married Claudeane Tully May 21, 1983. She survives.
He had been a lifetime resident of Ulysses and Grant County. He had been a resident of Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses for the past seven years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He graduated from Kansas State University in Manhattan with a degree in civil engineering.
After a short working career, he and his brother, Tom Joyce, farmed and ranched south of Ulysses. The original Joyce family homestead land is still intact.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses, American Legion Post No. 79 in Ulysses, VFW Post No. 5391 in Hugoton and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
His hobbies included hunting and fishing.
Other survivors include two sons, Robert Joyce Jr. and wife, Kat, Aurora, Colo., and Richard M. Joyce and wife, Linda, Oakley; one daughter, Rebecca Joyce, Moriarty, N.M.; two step-sons, Mark Tully, Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Merle Tully and wife, Twanda, Satanta; three step-daughters, Sydney Manderfeld and husband, Dan, Evanston, Wyo., Leslie Davis and husband, Mike, Durango, Colo, and René DuPree and husband, Brad, Hutchinson; 24 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Thomas Joyce; and one grandson, Toby Grimes.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Untied Methodist Church in Ulysses with Dr. Max Clayton and the Pastor Gary Gregory presiding.
Military graveside services will be conducted by Charles B. Hart Post No. 79, Ulysses, at Ulysses Cemetery
in Ulysses.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Grant County Funeral Home in Ulysses.

KENNETH D. PETERS
ULYSSES -- Kenneth Dean Peters, 68, Ulysses, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus, in Wichita.
He was born March 29, 1934, to Kenneth Raymond and Bertha Lorene (Metcalf) Peters in Liberal, Mo.
He married Nancy Burns March 29, 1953, in Lakin. She survives.
He had been a resident of Ulysses since 1941.
He began driving trucks for Troy Cheek's Pipeline. He later worked for other businesses, including Juel Water Service, Garrison Oil Company and Popejoy Construction.
In 1956, he inherited a set of tools from his father and began helping friends work on their cars during the evenings and weekends out of his father's shop. This venture created Peters Automotive and Truck Service.
He built dragsters, hot rods, antiques, trucks, go carts, scooters and mowers. He won numerous trophies for drag racing.
He also took care of animals and children throughout his life.
Other survivors include his mother, Ulysses; two sons, Kenneth Jene Peters and Kenten Dean Peters, both of Ulysses; three daughters, Becca Annette Brantley and Tina Carson, both of Ulysses, and Cynthia Susette Lower, Kersey, Colo.; his step-children; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father on March 28, 1956.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses with the Pastor Bill Harrold and George Peters presiding.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery
in Ulysses.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

RAYMOND L. STRICKLAND
HUGOTON -- Raymond Lee Strickland, 75, Hugoton, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Kansas Soldiers' Home in Fort Dodge.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.
EARLINE B. HARDEY
Earline B. Hardey, 96, Liberal, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at the Lone Tree Compassionate Care Center in Meade.
She was born Oct. 28, 1905, to Jesse and Mary (Sapulvado) Ferguson in Zwolle, La.
She married Edward P. Hardey Jan. 28, 1927, in Shreveport, La. He died Sept. 22, 1994.
She moved to Hugoton in 1933, and later moved to Liberal in 1970.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Altar Society, St. Monica's Guild, the Prayer Group, and two bridge clubs, all in Liberal.
Survivors include one son, Edward E. Hardey and wife, Mary Ann, Park Forest, Ill.; one daughter, Marianne Normady, Yukon, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Vigil and Rosary services will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Miller Chapel in Liberal.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal with the Father Tony Judge presiding.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.
