REV. WILLARD ROBERTS
RIALTO, Calif. -- Rev. Willard M. Roberts, 83, Rialto, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Beverly Manor Convalescent Hospital in Burbank, Calif.
He was born Feb. 15, 1918, in Amesville, Ohio.
He was a minister for Christian churches (Disciples of Christ) for more than 40 years, serving in several churches in Illinois, Douglas, Ariz., Hominy, Okla., Guymon, Okla., and Laverne, Okla. He also served in Liberal from 1953-1957.
He moved to California and retired from the ministry in 1980 from the Christian Church in Rialto.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Roberts, San Bernardino, Calif.; one son, Willard Timothy Roberts, Arcola, Ill.; two daughters, Cosetta Abbott, Tucson, Ariz., and Duska Bradshaw, Burband, Calif.; two sisters, Helen Swisher, Maysville, Ky., and Betty Richie, Marietta, Ohio; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Jan. 11, 2002, in San Bernardino.
Burial was at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton, Calif.

JAMEY A. LESSER
PALM HARBOR, Fla. Jamey Alan Lesser, 25, died Feb, 1, 2002, at his mother's home in Palm Harbor.
Survivors include his mother, Annette Jones and step-father, Jerry Jones, Palm Harbor; his father, Steve Lesser, Dunedin, Fla.; one sister, Cortney Lesser; one grandmother, Jerri (Hockensmith) Waters, Fort Worth, Texas; one uncle, Shawn Waters, Alice, Texas; one aunt, Tony Geraid, Fort Worth; great grandparents, Chet and Viola Hockensmith, Liberal; great-uncle and aunt, Gary and Karen Hockensmith, Abeline, Texas; great-aunt, June Brooks, Kismet; and numerous cousins.
Graveside services were held Feb. 3 at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Palm Harbor.
Burial was at Curlew Hills Memory Garden in Palm Harbor.

FREDDIE L. HUTCHINSON
Freddie Leon Hutchinson, 61, Liberal, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, in Liberal.
Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary in Liberal.
LEONARD F. BECKERMAN
FOWLER -- Leonard F. "Turney" Beckerman, 79, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Minneola District Hospital in Minneola.
He was born Oct. 31, 1922, to Herman and Anna (Wille) Beckerman in rural Minneola.
He married Fern Hoffman May 14, 1952, in Fowler. She survives.
He had been a lifetime resident of Meade County.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operation.
He was a farmer.
He was a member of Saint Anthony Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and American Legion, all in Fowler.
Other survivors include two sons, Mark Beckerman, Olpe, and Lee Beckerman, Hutchinson; three daughters, DeAnn Boyd, Fowler, Jackie Strecker, Spearville; and Kay Roberts, Herington; one brother, Ed Beckerman, Garden City; four sisters, Sister Jude Beckerman, Ness City, Mary Reinert, Dodge City, Margaret Downing, Gaithersburg, Md., and Cecile Beckerman, Salem, Ore.; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Raymond Beckerman, Lewis Beckerman, Alvin Beckerman, George Beckerman and Leo Beckerman.
Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Fowler.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Saint Anthony Catholic Church with the Father Zeno Ye Swe presiding.
Burial will be at Fowler Cemetery
in Fowler.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.

LESLIE UNRUH
COPELAND -- Leslie "Rex" Unruh, 31, Copeland, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, as a result of a truck accident north of Liberal on U.S. Highway 83 at the Cimarron Bridge.
He was born Nov. 17, 1970, to Leslie J. and Gertrude J. (Fricke) Unruh in Garden City.
He had been a lifetime resident of Copeland.
He was a truck driver, working for Unruh Grain Inc. in Copeland.
His hobbies included collecting model trucks.
Survivors include two sons, Jonathan Rex Unruh and James Wayne Unruh, both of the home; one daughter, Chloe Kay Unruh, Denham Springs, La.; his parents, of Copeland; one brother, Garold J. Unruh and wife, Joan, Copeland; one sister, Gina Joy Cash and husband, Terry, Copeland; and numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Wesley Wayne Unruh in 1967; and grandparents, Lincoln and Elda Unruh and Samuel L. and Katherine Fricke.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Copeland Junior High School auditorium in Copeland with the Ministers Warren Cico, Sam Unruh Jr. and Verle Yost presiding.
Burial will be at Salem Mennonite Cemetery
in Copeland.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

KISMET -- Coleen Adducci, 59, Kismet, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

FREDDIE L. HUTCHINSON
Freddie Leon Hutchinson, 61, Liberal, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, in Liberal.
He was born July 20, 1940, to Charles M. and Edith C. (Harvey) Hutchinson in Liberal.
He attended school in Liberal and graduated from Tyrone High School in 1958.
He was a self-employed plasterer and mason in the local construction industry. He was employed at Southwestern Gas Company for several years.
Her served in the Army National Guard for six years and received an honorable discharge.
Survivors include one son, John Patrick Hutchinson, New Mexico; one daughter, Hedi Lynn Hutchinson, New Mexico; two brothers, Ron Hutchinson, Lawton, Okla., and Jim Miller, Keller, Texas; two sisters, his twin sister Evonne Kilgore and husband, Dean, Alva, Okla., and Diane Riney and husband, Jim, Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren; one aunt, Frances Simmons, Hugoton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, J.W. Miller; one brother, Gene; and one sister, Nellie.
Private graveside services will be at Arkalon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67901.
PEARLE NELSON
Johnson -- Pearle (Webb) Nelson, 99, Johnson, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson.
She was born Sept. 13, 1902, to John Ritchea and Ona (Moyer) Webb in Arispe, Iowa.
She married Laurence E. Nelson Dec. 25, 1920, in Shelbyville, Mo. He died in January 1983.
She was a school teacher for the Hodgeman, Osborn and Rooks County school districts. She was a telephone operator and secretary, Sunday school teacher and a homemaker.
She was a member of the Church of God (Holiness) Church in Natoma and the Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Johnson. She was also a member of the Bear Cats Sunday School Class.
Survivors include two sons, Bill Nelson, Norton, and J.C. Nelson, Johnson; two daughters, Ona Barber, Johnson, and Ellen Clair, Columbia, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Big Bow with the Revs. Ken Armstrong and W.O. Boomer presiding.
Burial will be at Stanton County Cemetery
in Johnson.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.

BETTY SMITH
GARDEN CITY -- Betty Smith, 71, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born March 2, 1930, to Norman and Frances (Clark) White in Vineland, N.J.
She had been a resident of Garden City since 1997, having moved from Pinellas Park, Fla.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Garden City.
Survivors include four daughters, Janine Lunn, Tampa, Fla., Loretta Sims, Holcomb, Lanette Lundblade, Garden City, and Julie Long, Kinsley; one brother, Bill White, Bostic, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, James H. Smith; and one daughter, Darlene Dee Smith.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Garden City with the Brother Don Largent presiding.
Graveside services were at noon today at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal.
Price and Sons Funeral Home in Garden City was in charge of arrangements.

Freda E. Winkler, 85, Liberal, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
