JOSEPHINE M. PFEIFER
HAYS -- Josephine Mary Pfeifer, 89, Centennial Towers, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Hays Medical Center in Hays.
She was born June 27, 1912, to John C. and Barbara (Steinbach) Befort in Munjor.
She married Alex P. Pfeifer Aug. 19, 1941, in Hyacinth. He died Nov. 9, 1992.
She was a homemaker and had worked in housekeeping at St. Anthony's Hospital in Hays.
She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hays.
She was also a member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia.
Survivors include two sons, Leonard F. Pfeifer, Pottsboro, Texas, and Jerry Pfeifer, Jamestown; one daughter, Norma J. Ruder, Liberal; one step-son, Edward Pfeifer, Hays; one step-daughter, Mildred Dinges, Pottsboro; one brother, Aloysius Befort, Grand Island, Neb.; four sisters, Jane Gottschalk, Hays, and Agnes England, Esther Stals and Bernice England, all of New Bedford, Mass.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Alex Befort, Connie Befort, Francis Befort, Clarence Befort, John Befort and William J. Befort; and three sisters, Albina Pfeifer, Irene Wilson and Elizabeth Befort.
A parish vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hays.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hays with the Father Don Zimmerman presiding.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 8:30-9:45 a.m. Saturday at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
Burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery
in Hays.
Memorials are suggested to either the Cancer Council of Ellis County or the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia.
ADELINE L. WETMORE
MONTEZUMA -- Adeline L. Wetmore, 95, Montezuma, formerly of Meade, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at Bethel Home Inc. in Montezuma.
She was born May 26, 1906, to Abraham E. and Lena (Becker) Unruh in Durham.
She married Joseph Wetmore Aug. 9, 1938, in Montezuma. He died March 29, 1995.
She moved to Montezuma as a young girl. She attended Durham and Montezuma schools, and was a clerk for the postal service. She also worked in her father's grocery store in Montezuma.
After her marriage, she and her husband moved to the Fowler community and lived on a farm for 25 years.
After her husband's death, she moved to Bethel Home in Montezuma.
She was a member of the Meade United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include one sister, Evelyn Latta and husband, Irvin, Montezuma; one sister-in-law, Goldie Unruh, Tucson, Ariz.; three nephews, Stanley Unruh, Dusseldorf, Germany, Robert Latta, Meade, and Richard Latta, Indianapolis; two nieces, Sharon Watts, Jasper, Ga., and JoLene Unruh, Tucson; and three great-nephews, Scott Watts, Milan, Tenn., Rocky Watts, Cumming, Ga., and John Latta, Dalton, Ga.
She was also preceded in death by
her parents and three brothers, Archie Unruh, who died at the age of three, Walter Unruh and Irvin Unruh.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma with the Rev. Gene Eshleman presiding.
Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery
in Meade.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. until service Monday at Montezuma Funeral Home.

JEANNETTE JONES
Johnson -- Jeannette Havergal (Saunders) Jones, 88, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Denver, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, in Denver.
She was born July 24, 1913, in Stonington, Colo.
She married Justin Jones Dec. 14, 1941. He preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet Kay Heffernan, Denver, and Cynthia Ann Reedy, Colorado Springs; four grandsons; one great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Thomas Paul Jones.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Stanton County Cemetery
in Johnson with the Rev. Dave Kaufmann presiding.
Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson is in charge of arrangements.
ESTER S. WILLIAMS
Ester S. Williams, 45, Liberal, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at her home in Liberal.

Blanche D. Warden, 93, Liberal, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at Good Samaritan Center in Liberal.

SATANTA Lois B. Davison, 94, Satanta, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Satanta Long Term Care Unit in Satanta.
Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.
VIRGINIA A. TRACY
SYRACUSE Virginia Ann (Tenbrink) Tracy, 84, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at her home in Syracuse.
She was born April 27, 1917, to William Henry and Clara Mary (Benish) Tenbrink in Hodgeman County, five miles north of Bellfont.
She married John Tracy Jan. 14, 1943, in Anthony. He died Sept. 25, 2000.
She moved to Ford County, a few miles north of Howell in 1926. She attended Howell grade school and graduated high school in 1935 from St. Mary of the Plains Girls Academy in Dodge City.
She attended and graduated from the Schwartz Beauty School in Dodge City. She worked in the beauty industry in Meade, Garden City and Anthony.
After her husband's military service during World War II, she
moved to their farm near Syracuse in 1952.
She farmed, ranched and raised quarter horses. She also worked as a nurse's aide at the Hamilton County Hospital in Syracuse.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the St. Raphael Catholic Church in Syracuse.
She was also a member of the Altar Society, the Syracuse Garden Club, and had been a 4-H leader.
Her hobbies included Bridge, oil painting, ceramics, gardening, flowers, cooking bread and pies, and making homemade butter and ice cream.
Survivors include five sons, John E. Tracy Jr., Hooker, Okla., Dr. Michael Tracy and wife, Barbara, Upland, Calif., Timothy Tracy and wife, Melanie, and Patrick Tracy and wife, Molli, all of Syracuse, and William Tracy and wife Michelle, Nuevo, Calif.; two sisters, Wilma Agnes Hessman, Dodge City, and Esther Mary Bogner, Dodge City; one sister-in-law, Betty Tenbrink. Stillwater, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Everett William Tenbrink.
A Rosary-Vigil service was held at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Syracuse.
A Funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Syracuse with Father Mike Helms presiding.
Burial took place Saturday at the Syracuse Cemetery
in Syracuse.
The family hosted a dinner at St. Raphael Catholic Church Saturday afternoon.

AGNES UNRUH
MONTEZUMA -- Agnes Unruh, 92, died early Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Bethel Home Inc. in Montezuma, where she was a resident.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.
MURIEL ELLIS
HUGOTON -- Muriel Ellis, 91, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.
She was born Nov. 23, 1909, to DeWitt and Hattie (Howe) Worden in Alton.
She graduated from the Friends Haviland Academy in 1948.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton. She was an adult Sunday school teacher for more than 25 years. She has been active with bible school and children's ministries.
She married Carl Ellis Dec. 25, 1933, in Alton. He died in March of 1980.
Survivors include one son, M. Gene Ellis and wife, Patricia, Lenexa; one daughter, Joyce Plank and husband, John, Hugoton; one brother, Myron Worden, Friendswood, Texas; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dean and Kenneth Worden; and one sister, Arlene McKinney.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton, with the Rev. Eric Mason presiding.
Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery
in Hugoton.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton.
