ETHEL FAYE BOOTH
Ethel Faye Booth, 93, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born Dec. 29, 1907, to James Randolph "JR" and Mary Ann "Mollie" (Gieseke) Graves, on a farm near Ripley in Payne County, Okla.
She and her family moved to the Oklahoma Panhandle when she was six weeks old and made their homestead five miles east of the present day town of Hardesty, Okla.
She attended her first seven years of school at the Prairie Bell, Star and Hartville country schools. She and her family moved to Goodwell, so that she and one of her siblings could have a high school education. The family lived for four years, and she graduated May 20, 1926.
She met Lloyd W. "Shine" Booth in 1928. They married Dec. 9, 1928 at his home in Guymon, Okla. He died June 3, 1960.
She helped her husband with the City Garage in Guymon on Main Street until the Depression. They then moved to the Edith Wagner ranch and farm southeast of Guymon, near Hitchland, Texas. She and her family moved three miles east of Hardesty, Okla., in 1939.
She attended the Methodist Church in Goodwell, the United Brethren Church and the Apostolic Faith Church. She played piano for the country churches and played piano for various functions for about 35 years. She played pump organ for the Hitchland church, as well as attending the ladies social functions. She taught piano lessons.
She was a member of the ladies quilting club and helped with her children's various school activities.
Survivors include three children, Bill Booth and wife, Peggy, Bartlesville, Okla., and Marlene Barnes and husband, Robert "Bob", and Kathryn Cornell and husband, Jack, all of Hardesty; two granddaughters, Beverly Leete, Rose Hill, and Tonya Weston, Enid, Okla.; four grandsons, Curtis and Lance Booth, Bartlesville, Mike Barnes Tulsa, Okla., and Kevin Cornell, Hardesty; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one step-granddaughter, Velma Ruth McCoun and husband, Roger, Amarillo, Texas; one step-grandson, John Booth and wife, Selma, Garland, Texas; three step-great-granddaughters; five step-great-grandsons; and eight step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two step-sons and their wives, Charles and Lelah Booth and Estelle and Bonnie Booth; one step-grandson, Larry Booth; one brother and six sisters and their spouses, Ennis and Edna Graves, Della Esther and Alma Luisa Graves, Zella and Oscar Bingley, Ina and Jim Tharp, Delorous and Chester Martin and Lillian Turner/Wall.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Apostolic Faith Church in Hardesty, with the Rev. Kevin Cornell, her grandson, presiding.
Burial will be at the Elmhurst Cemetery.

MARIE RICH
HUGOTON -- Marie Rich, 76, Hugoton, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Satanta Long Term Care Unit in Satanta.
She was born Oct. 10, 1924, to William and Maude (Farris) Jackson in Atchinson.
She married Howard Rich Aug. 31, 1955, in Leavenworth. He died Oct. 30, 1990.
She and her husband moved from Atchinson to Hugoton in 1958.
She was a homemaker and helped people in the Hugoton area.
She was a member of the Church of God and the Women of the Church of God, both in Hugoton.
Survivors include three nephews, Robert Lee and wife, Jo, Linden, Neb., Eugene Lee and wife, Barbara, and Harold Monday Jr., all of Kansas City, Mo.; two nieces, Dixie Ridgnal and husband, Wilbert, Kansas City, Kan., and Carolyn Dunn and husband, John, Denver; and 24 great-nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a twin sister, Elizabeth Williams; two nieces; and one nephew.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Church of God in Hugoton with the Pastor Bill Vincent presiding.
Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery
in Hugoton.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.
HELEN J. STAPLES
ROLLA -- Helen Josephine Staples, 85, rural Guymon, Okla., died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at her daughter's home in Texas County, Okla.
She was born Feb. 11, 1916, to Samuel Marion and Minnie Lee (Erskin) Gillmore in Newton County, Mo.
She married Joseph Ralph Johnson Dec. 30, 1931.
She married Kenneth Elwyn Staples Dec. 11, 1965. He died Jan. 29, 1990.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints in Hugoton.
Survivors include two sons, Joe Johnson and wife, Jo Nell, Weslaco, Texas, and Robert Johnson and wife, Garnet, Paso Robles, Calif.; one daughter, Lila Nelson and husband, Don, Guymon; 12 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Samuel Glen Johnson; and one great-grandson, Seth Thackeray.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints in Hugoton with the President Keith Jarvis presiding.
Additional services will be held in Bends, Ore.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.
FERN B. KROHN
HUGOTON -- Fern Bernice Krohn, 76, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Satanta District Hospital in Satanta.
She was born March 11, 1925, to Paul and Grace (May) Wilson in Moscow.
She married Lloyd O. Fox in 1942 in Syracuse. They divorced.
She married Leonard H. Krohn March 26, 1949, in Fort Collins, Colo. He preceded her in death.
She and her family moved to Towner, Colo., in 1930. She grew up and attended school in Towner.
She worked as a cafeteria manager at Woolworth's.
She moved to Calhan, Colo., in 1950, where she lived for 25 years. In 1985, she moved to Moscow.
She moved to Hugoton in 1999.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Hugoton.
Survivors include one son, Larry Fox and wife, Gloria, Hugoton; one daughter, Pamela Rowe and husband, Doug, Garden City; one brother, Robert Wilson, Calhan; two grandsons, Brandon Fox and wife, Jennifer, Hugoton, and Taylor Schaffer and wife, Kari, Hereford, Texas; one granddaughter, Misty Winger and husband, Dwight, Dodge City; and seven great-grandchildren, Addison Winger, Paiton Winger, Macie Schaffer, MacKenzie Schaffer, MacAylie Schaffer, Lauren Fox and Ethan Fox.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one
grandson, Brian Fox.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hugoton Cemetery
in Hugoton with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

OTHAR L. THOMAS
EARTH, Texas -- Othar L. Thomas, 79, Earth, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, in Lubbock, Texas.
He was born Sept. 19, 1922, in Lamesa, Texas.
He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the United States Army.
He was a pilot and worked as a mechanic for Ford dealership and as a security guard.
He moved to Fort Sumner in 1974, and then to Plains in 1976. He moved to Earth in July of 2001.
He was a life long member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include one son, Stephen Thomas, Garden City; five daughters, Suzy Grantham, Fayetteville, Ark., Mary Ann Thomas, Phoenix, Cathi Freeman, Earth, Debra Hopson, Boise City, Okla., and Nancy Headley, Oklahoma City; one sister; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert George Dickens and Donald Lawson Thomas, and one sister.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. (MST) Thursday at Fort Sumner Cemetery
in Fort Sumner, N.M., with the Rev. Coy Brewer and Brad Freeman, son-in-law, presiding.
Burial will be at Fort Sumner Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church, 310 Indiana, Plains, KS 67869.
EUGENE W. SLAYMAKER
Eugene W. "Gene" Slaymaker, 79, Liberal, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary in Liberal.
JERRY L. TORSON
SUBLETTE -- Jerry L. Torson, 33, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, in Sublette.
He was born Dec. 26, 1967, to Tony and Rose (Pfenninger) Torson in Dighton.
He graduated from Sublette High School in 1986.
He was a welder and a member of the National Rifle Association.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and playing pool.
Survivors include his parents of Sublette; two daughters, Shanya Torson and Jakayla Torson, both of Stratton, Colo.; one step-daughter, Danielle Nelson, Stratton; one brother, Terry Torson and wife, Becky, Atlanta; one sister, Jeanine Biera and husband, Josh, Garden City; grandmother, Mary Alice McGillivary, Dighton; three nephews, Philip Torson,
Taylor Torson and Lincoln Biera; ex-wife, Shari Torson, Stratton; and numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Ralph Pfenninger and Vernon Torson; and grandmother, Alice Dicus.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Christian Church in Sublette with the Pastor David Erwin presiding.
Burial will be at the Haskell County Cemetery
in Sublette.
