THERESA M. GARWOOD
LADY LAKE, Fla. -- Theresa Marie Garwood, 72, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Hospice of Lake and Sumter in Tavares, Fla.
She was born Dec. 6, 1928, to Walter and Josephine Bowling in Concordia.
She was a homemaker.
She moved from Liberal to central Florida in 1990.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Don "D.K." Garwood, Lady Lake; one son, Greg Garwood, New York City; one daughter, Jody Rouse and husband, Gary, Tulsa, Okla.; one sister, Jean Thoman, Jamestown; and one granddaughter, Erin Rouse, Tulsa.
Cremation has already taken place.

GLADYS M. MCKEEN
Gladys M. "Peggy" McKeen, 83, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born Aug. 4, 1918, to Harry Rudolpf and Edvarda Augusta (Engadal) Jacobsen in Rock Island, Texas.
She married William F. "Bill" McKeen Sept. 21, 1939, in Woodward, Okla. He survives.
She was a 1936 graduate of Eagle Lake High School in Eagle Lake, Texas. She attended the Odessa Business College in Odessa, Texas.
She had been a resident of Liberal since 1960, having moved from Midland, Texas.
She was employed as a secretary for the Liberal Gas Company. She then worked for the Social Rehabilitation Services of the State of Kansas in the Liberal office, retiring in 1986 as the administrative supervisor.
She was a member of St. Anthony Caltholic Church in Liberal, where she was a church usher, and a member of Rosary Group, Altar Society and St. Monica Guild.
She was a former member of Desk and Derrick Club of Liberal.
Other survivors include one son, Charles William McKeen and wife, Nancy, Liberal; one daughter, Teresa D. McKeen Perdue and husband, Dave, Dallas; three grandsons, Charlie, Max and Jonny Perdue; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Jimmy Jacobsen, Oliver Jacobsen, Harvey Jacobsen and Norman Jacobsen; a twin sister, Lillian Lowrie; and one grandson, William F. "Willy" McKeen III..
Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel in Liberal.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal with the Rev. Patrick A. Keyes presiding.
Burial will follow at Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal.

HAROLD L. KREY
ELKHART -- Harold L. Krey, 75, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Anderson Bluebonnet Acres in Stephenville, Texas.
He was born Nov. 13, 1925, to Arcy and Myrtle (Boone) Krey in St. John.
He married Lois Barnett Nov. 25, 1965, in Oklahoma City. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, Arcy Krey and wife, Melinda, Stephenville; two brothers, Wesley Krey, Amarillo, Texas, and Don Krey, Richfield; three sisters, Pat
Crosswhite, Ness City, Phyllis Tull, Cleburne, Texas, and Virginia Sell, Stafford; and six grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son, three daughters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Elkhart Church of the Nazarene in Elkhart.
Burial will be at Elkhart Cemetery
in Elkhart.

GEORGE H. SIMMONS
George H. Simmons, 83, Liberal, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, in Hutchinson.
He was born Aug. 7, 1918, to John Elmer and Martha (Sallee) Simmons in Fort Supply, Okla.
He married Ava L. Woods Sept. 3, 1942, in Liberal. She survives.
He attended and graduated from Hutchinson High School.
He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps and served four years during World War II.
He returned to Liberal and worked for Ideal Food Stores and later Beech Aircraft for nine years.
He worked in the drug department at the warehouse for Nash Finch for 25 years and retired in 1983.
He sold Mason and later Knapp Shoes and Herbal Life for many years.
He was a life member of the First Assembly of God Church in Liberal, where he served as deacon and on the church board for many years.
His hobbies included watching football and wrestling, and working in his garden.
Other survivors include one son, Robert George Simmons, Liberal; one daughter, Carolyn Ballard and husband, Don, Hutchinson; two brothers, Earl Simmons and wife, Dorothy, Hutchinson, and Paul Simmons, San Marino, Calif.; one sister, Clara Mae Foster, Topeka; two grandchildren, Teresa Presley and Bill Presley and wife, Kimberly; two great-grandchildren, Hailey Wyer and Caleb Presley; one step-grandchild, Chanda Clark and husband, DeWayne; and two step-great-grandchildren, Cory and Courtney Clark.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Assembly of God Church in Liberal with the Rev. Jack Wilson presiding.
Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal with military honors.

ELSIE M. WESSLER
SPRINGFIELD, Colo. -- Elsie Mattie (Munger) Wessler, 88, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at St. Katherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born July 27, 1913, to Charles and Christina Munger near Copeland.
She married Charles D. Novinger July 10, 1932. He died in 1958.
She married Oscar Lewis Wessler March 14, 1962. He died Jan. 4, 1975.
She and her family moved south of Plains. They also lived in Plains, and she graduated from Plains High School in 1930. She attended college in Goodwell, Okla.
She and her husband, Charles, moved to Springfield after their marriage. He was employed for Soil Conservation Service for seven years, and they were transferred to several places.
They moved back to Springfield in 1945.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and served on several committees.
She was also a member of the Methodist Women's Service Circle sewing group, which is responsible for making hospital and long-term care center bibs.
She joined the Big Rock S&C Club in 1932 and was a member of the Big Rock Grange for more than 60 years.
She served on the hospital auxiliary and she and her husband, Oscar, were involved in the ground-breaking ceremony for the Springfield Hospital.
She was also a member of other clubs and civic activities.
Survivors include one son, Melvin Wessler and wife, Laura; two daughters, Mona Millican and husband, L.R., and Ruth Wilson and husband, A.R.; seven grandchildren, Cindy Hetrick and husband, Rodney, Monty Wessler and wife, Ellen, Mickey Mendenhall, Connie McKinley and husband, Jim, Charla Williams and husband, Mike, Tammie Tucker and husband, Randy, and Gary Wilson and wife, Lisa; 18 great-grandchildren, Heather Felton and husband, Chris, Hylari Lee and husband, Jeremy, Ryan Williams and wife, Melinda, Jason Hetrick, Courtney Mendenhall, Laura May Wessler, Lynzea Hetrick, Trenton Williams, Bryan Tucker, Emily Wessler, Bradley Tucker, Matthew Wessler, Nathan Williams, Blake Tucker, Ashley Wilson, Zachary Wessler, Morgan Wilson and JoHannah McKinley; five great-great-grandchildren, Tyler Pasewalk, Chandler Lee, M'Kinna Lee, Jade Tucker and Taylea Felton; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother; two sisters; one nephew; two grandsons, Vonn Wessler and V.L. and Kelley Wessler; and a great-great-granddaughter, Aashlyn Lee.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Springfield with the Revs. Don Boyce and Max Bowlin presiding.
Burial was at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Plains Cemetery
in Plains. Graveside services were conducted by the Revs. Don Boyce and Dan Biernacki.
MARY L. MINGO
Mary L. Mingo, 82, Liberal, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born Feb. 1, 1919, to Josh and Laura (Martin) Bell in McGehee, Ark.
She married Thomas Morgan, George Baker and Herbert Mingo. All preceded her in death.
She moved to Liberal in 1991 from Dumas, Ark.
Survivors include five sons, James Baker, Wichita, Herman Baker and Calvin Baker, both of Liberal, Albert Earl Noble, Lincoln, Neb., and Herbert Mingo, Arlington, Texas; one daughter, Essie Witherspoon and husband, James, Liberal; two brothers, Percy Bell and Roy Bell, both of Dumas; four sisters, Juanita Swygert and Reola Bealer, both of Ponca City, Okla., Veola Thompson, Pine Bluff, Ark., and Ruther Jones, Dumas; 34 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted in Pickens, Ark.
Miller Mortuary in Liberal is in charge of local arrangements.
CALVIN A. COLLINS
MEADE Calvin A. Collins, 88, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at Lone Tree Compassionate Care Center in Meade.
He was born March 1, 1913, to Abel T. and Grace N. (LaCross) Collins in Clements.
He married Phyllis L. Smith Feb. 2, 1957, in Meade. She died Dec. 28, 1998.
He was a lifetime resident of Meade, and he was a retired lineman for the Chicago Rock Island Railroad.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the VFW, both of Meade.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Collins, Overland Park, and Robert Collins, Las Vegas; one daughter, Juanita Perkins, Meade; one step-son, Patrick "Pat" Smith, Fowler; one step-daughter, Margaret Miller, Oklahoma City; one sister, Ivy Hickey, Williston, N.D.; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one step-son, Mickey Smith; and three brothers, Rolla Collins, Orville Collins and Charles Collins.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Meade with the Rev. Harry Fink presiding.
Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery
in Meade with military rites performed by the American Legion Post No. 92, also of Meade.
