DELILA M. MEIN
MEADE -- Delila Marie Mein, 65, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at the Via Christi Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
She was born Dec. 29, 1935, to Herbert L. and Rachel Iva Barragree Mein in Meade.
She was a graduate of Meade High School.
She entered the United States Air Force in February 1955. She retired May 31, 1978, as a senior master sergeant. She was the first woman to teach at the NCO Academy in San Bernadino, Calif.
She attended Fort Hays State University following her retirement from the military. She graduated from there Cum Laude in 1980.
She moved to Denver, Colo., following her graduation, where she worked for a gas company. She then worked for Lowery Air Force Base until its closure. She then transferred to Fort Simmons Army Hospital, where she retired in 1996 as the director of budget for maintenance and engineering.
She moved to Meade in 1998.
She was a member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meade.
She was a member of the American Legion and the AARP, both of Meade.
Survivors include her mother of Dodge City; two brothers, William Mein, Liberal, and Edward Mein, Meade; three nieces and seven nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father on Nov. 1, 1962; and one brother, Lawrence Mein in August 1999.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meade. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church with Father Zeno Ye Swe presiding.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the Kansas Soldiers Cemetery
in Ft. Dodge. Military rites will be conducted by the McConnell Air Force Base Burial Detail.
Friends may call from 1-5 p.m. today at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.

JESSE EVERETT KEMPER
Jesse Everett "Kemp" Kemper, 75, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at his home in Pratt.
He was born May 27, 1926, to Charles Ernest and Bertha L. (Thomas) Kemper in Liberal.
He married Velda N. Chester May 28, 1950, in Liberal. She survives.
He moved to Pratt from Liberal in 1957.
He was a retired moving van truck driver.
He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Pratt where he served as deacon for 18 years.
He served in the Civil Service as an aircraft B-24 mechanic.
Other survivors include three sons, Dan Kemper, Windsor, Colo., and Andy Kemper and Tim Kemper, both of Pratt; three daughters, Lucile Florez, Tulsa, Okla., and Becky Buettgenbach and Debi Gaston, both of Ottawa; one brother, Edward Kemper, Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Eula Locke, Terrell, Texas, Edna Phillips,
Liberal, and Evalina Joy, Houston, Texas; and 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Earl; and one sister, Eunice Caldwell.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Larrison Mortuary in Pratt with Jim Zimmerman presiding.
Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery
in Pratt.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at Larrison Funeral Home in Pratt.

ARTHUR L. WOODWARD
Arthur L. "Art" Woodward, 56, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at Via Christi Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
He was born Sept. 16, 1944, to Grover and Wanda (Kirk) Woodward in Tahlequah, Okla.
He married Christine Caffey Oct. 24, 1985, in Clayton, N.M. She survives.
He graduated from high school in Tahlequah.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Thailand.
He worked for the city of Liberal for 33 years, retiring in 1997 as the Director of Water.
He was a member of the VFW and Elks Lodge No. 1947.
Other survivors include one son, Aaron of the home; one brother, Dale Woodward and wife, Cathy, Tyrone, Okla.; one sister, Cindy Onions and husband, Mike, Durango, Colo.; four nephews, one niece, and one great-niece.
Funeral services will be private.

KENNETH M. DAVIS
ELKHART Kenneth Milton Davis, 70, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
He was born Dec. 8, 1930, to Etheridge and Tressie (Danderson) Davis (later Buck) in Stuart, Okla.
He married Shirley Clinesmith Oct. 4, 1959 in Elkhart. She survives.
He was a member of the Confederate Air Force, Cimarron Chapter of Midland, Texas. He was also a member of the Texas County Irrigation Association in Guymon, Okla., and was president of the Elkhart Area Chamber of Commerce from 1980 until 1981.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Elkhart.
Other survivors include one son, Roger Davis, Jenk, Okla.; one daughter, Dr. Bebra Williams, Panama City Beach, Fla.; one brother, Buck Davis and wife, Dianna, Elkhart; one sister-in-law, Karen Steele, Rolla; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of Christ in Elkhart with Shan Hanes and Rev. Ron Wilson presiding.
Burial will be at the Elkhart Cemetery
in Elkhart.

FAYETTA V. LOWRY
HUGOTON -- Fayetta V. "Pab" Lowry, Hugoton, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.
She was born to Roy "Slim" and Opal (Williamson) Lowry in Stafford County.
She was a bus driver for Hugoton schools for approximately 20 years.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Hugoton. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Hugoton.
Her hobbies included playing Bingo.
Survivors include one brother, Cleston C. Lowry, Hugoton; two sisters, Wanna Maxwell, Wichita, and Eula I. Smith, Copeland; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Cedric Lowry.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Assembly of God Church in Hugoton with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding.
Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery
in Hugoton.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

ORVIN V. PENNINGTON
Orvin V. Pennington, 91, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.
He was born Nov. 2, 1909, to William J. and Byrdie (Horn) Pennington in Hayne.
He married Ella Mae Ellis King April 4, 1991, in Liberal. She survives.
He spent most of his life in the Liberal area.
He was a 1928 graduate of Liberal High School. He attended college at Goodwell Panhandle College in Goodwell, Okla. He graduated from Oklahoma University in Norman, Okla., in 1938 with a master's degree.
He was a Prudential Insurance agent for many years in Liberal. He retired in 1974.
He was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church in Liberal.
He had been a member of the Liberal Noon Lions Club since 1938. He was also a member of the American Legion and the American Diabetes Association.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Other survivors include two step-sons, Frederick C. DeRome-King, and Charles E. DeRome-King, both of Puyallup, Wash.; two step-daughters, Constance E. Dryden, Galveston, Texas, and Victoria L. Melanson, Liberal; five step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one niece, Anita McVey, Santa Maria, Calif.; and three nephews, Keith Apsley, Liberal, and Rene Pennington and Carlos Pennington, both of Garden City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Orvill Pennington; and one sister, Violet I. Apsley.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the the First Christian Church in Liberal with the Rev. Tom Wilkins presiding.
Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.
