W.D. "WILLARD" BODAM
ULYSSES -- W.D. "Willard" Bodam, 88, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.
He was born March 21, 1913, to Jacob Cleveland and Olive (McCollough) Bodam in Lakin.
He married Athene Hoyt May 31, 1936, in Lakin. She survives.
He had been a resident of Garden City since 1952, having moved to Ulysses in October of 2000.
He was a graduate of Lakin High School.
He served for five years in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was employed as an agent by the Santa Fe Railroad for 27 years until his retirement.
He served on the Senior Citizen Board in Garden City and coordinated weekly bridge games for the senior center.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the American Legion Post No. 9, both in Garden City.
Other survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Jean Harkness, Friends, Virginia Louise Johnson, Garden City, and Cynthia Anne Armstrong, Ulysses; one brother, Myron Dwight Bodam, Pueblo, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by twin daughters, Athene and Marie, and one brother, Hugh Rell Bodam.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Garden City with branch president Mitch Williams presiding.
Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery
in Lakin.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.

REV. VERN D. LIVENGOOD
WINFIELD -- Rev. Vern D. Livengood, 85, former Liberal resident, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in Winfield from cancer.
He married Lois Carson, of Winfield, in September 1939. She survives.
He attended Garden City Junior College in Garden City, and graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield. He received his Bachelor of Divinity degree from Southern Methodist University's Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas, in May 1942.
He was United Methodist minister, with a career which spanned six decades.
His pastoral career included assignments to churches in the Kansas communities of Liberal Burden, Lindsborg, Scott City, Bethany-Wichita, Wellington, Concordia, and Anthony. From July 1942 to September 1945 he served as a United States Army chaplain in England, France, Belgium and Germany, with six months spent on the front lines.
He served as pastor of First United Methodist Church in Liberal from September 1965 to June 1975.
He and his wife retired to Winfield in June 1980, where they maintained active service in Grace United Methodist Church, as well as many other charitable and community causes.
They have been residents of Cumbernauld Retirement Village since February 1995.
Survivors also include three children, Judy Peakes and husband, John, of Lansing, Mich., Steve Livengood, Washington, DC, and Tom and wife, Cindy, of Spring, Texas; four brothers: Earl Livengood, Campbell, Calif., Marion Livengood, Hutchinson, Cecil Livengood, Overland Park, and Charles Livengood, Meridian, Idaho; one sister, Fern Moose, Bethany, Okla.; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield.
The family requests that any remembrances be directed to the Vern and Lois Livengood Scholarship Fund, Southwestern College, 100 College St. Winfield, KS 67156-2499, or to other charities of the donor's choice.
TONY B. BURNETT
MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. -- Tony B. Burnett, 36, former Liberal resident, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
He was the son of J.P. and Marie Rogers.
He was a graduate of Logan, N.M., High School.
He was a native of Amarillo, Texas, and was a member of the Highland Park Church of Christ.
He was past president of the Jaycees and past president of the International Pancake Day celebration in Liberal.
Survivors include his wife, Madona Burnett, Muscle Shoals; his parents of Albuquerque, N.M.; one son, Colt McCargish, Guymon, Okla.; two daughters, Natalya Burnett and Christina Burnett, Muscle Shoals; one step-daughter, Hollie Oliver, Muscle Shoals; one sister, Rhonda Green and husband, Bobby, Clayton, N.M.; grandparents, Dave and Della Bryant, Logan, N.M.; two nieces, two nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Morrison Funeral Chapel in Tuscumbia, Ala., with Steven Guy and Dr. Tom Whatley presiding.
Burial will follow at Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia.
THOMAS J. ADKINS
OLATHE Thomas J. Adkins, 64, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in Leavenworth.
He was born August 21, 1936, to Walter and Carren Holder in Sioux City, Iowa.
He married Francis Adkins, She preceded him in death.
He also married Patricia (Burke) Parnell. She survives.
He was a resident of Liberal for 22 years, prior to moving to Olathe, seven years ago.
He served in the U.S. Air Force
Other survivors include two daughters, Julie Warren and Michelle Adkins; two sons, Tom Adkins and David Adkins; one brother, Leonard Adkins; one sister, Mavis Kvidera; two daughters-in-law, Tammy and Donna; one son-in-law, Randy, and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Harold Adkins.
Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Chapel, 143rd and Blackbob Road, Olathe.
GLORIA J. JOHNROE
Gloria J. Johnroe, 57, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at her home in Liberal.
She was born March 29, 1944, to Frank and Lillian (Wilson) Friesen in Price, Utah.
She moved to Liberal in 1946 and attended Liberal High School.
She was a waitress for many years, the latest being at Mr. Breakfast. She dispatched for the Seward County Sheriff's Department from 1979 to 1989. For the past two years she was a bus aide for USD No. 480.
She was a member of the Trinity Faith Church in Liberal.
Survivors include her parents of Liberal; three sons, Clay Dible and wife, Jeannie, Wichita, Terry Combs and wife, Dusty, Tulsa, Okla., and Larry Combs and wife, Jo, Surrey, England; two daughters, Tammy Steele, and Bonnie Norberg and husband, Robert, all of Liberal; two brothers, Woodrow Heals and wife, Rayola, Winfield, and Frank Dean Friesen and wife, Connie, Liberal; two sisters, Patricia Hibler and husband, Raymond, and Lillian Olson and husband, Robert, all of Liberal; 12 grandchildren, April and William Norberg, Tina Dible, Heather Combs, Justin Combs, Michael Combs, Robert Combs, Rebecca Combs and Ashley Combs, Cheyanne Talley, Tiarne Talley and Austin Talley; and one great-grandson, Storme Norberg.
Funeral services will be a 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Faith Church with Dr. Ollie Kinser presiding.
Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

ROBERTO SOSA
HUGOTON -- Roberto Sosa, 71, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, in Wichita.
Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton.
MAXINE L. GUERRERO
HUGOTON -- Maxine L. Guerrero, 71, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.
She was born June 20, 1929, to Frederick L. and Florence M. (Mangus) Kinter in Speed.
She moved to Hugoton in 1958.
She married Joe B. Guerrero Sept. 12, 1959, in Clayton, N.M. He survives.
She was a homemaker and secretary for Joe B. Guerrero Oil Company in Hugoton.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the St. Helen Catholic Church and the VFW Auxiliary, and a past Den Mother of the Cub Scouts, all of Hugoton.
Survivors also include two sons, Gerald D. Guerrero and wife, Catherine, Chesapeake, Va., and Bradford L. Ramsey and wife, Michaela, Hot Springs, S.D.; one sister, Dorothy Hagman and husband, Clyde, Hugoton; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Rebecca; an infant son; and one sister, Florence Mae White.
Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hugoton Cemetery
in Hugoton, with Father Francis Khoi Nguyen and the Rev. Nel Holmes presiding.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Paul's Funeral Home.

CHERYL K. MARTIN
HUGOTON -- Cheryl Kaye Martin, 32, of Hugoton, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.
She was born Aug. 25, 1968, to Galen K. and Carolyn Kaye (Phillips) Keith in Hugoton.
She married William B. Martin May 20, 1989, in Hugoton. He survives.
She had been a lifetime resident of Hugoton.
She ran cross-country for four years and graduated from Hugoton High School in 1986. She attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas.
She was a homemaker and a secretary at Martin Trucking in Hugoton.
She was a member of the St. Helen Catholic Church in Hugoton. She was also a member of the Hugoton 4-H.
Her hobbies included cross-stitching, gardening and doing yard work.
Other survivors include her parents; two sons, Tucker William Martin and Cole Michael Martin, both of the home; one sister, Ashley Gail Dawdy and husband, Timothy, Aubrey, Texas; grandparents, Kenneth and Lora Keith and Maxine Phillips, all of Hugoton; and numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Ebert R. Phillips.
Vigil services will be at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Helen Catholic Church in Hugoton.
Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Helen Catholic Church with Father Francis Khoi Nguyen and Father James Baker presiding.
Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery
in Hugoton.
Friends may call until 5 p.m. today at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.
