HUGOTON -- Helen Marie "Billie" Curtis, 83, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.
ELAINE KAPP
Elaine Kapp, 101, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal.
She was born Jan. 13, 1900, to Allen T. and Dolly C. (Wright) Black in the Indian Territory, now Beaver County, Okla.
She married Spencer S. Kapp May 4, 1935, in Los Angeles.
She graduated from Liberal High School in 1917.
She lived in Dodge City, Topeka and Washington D.C. before moving to Los Angeles, where she worked for Bank of America.
She returned to Dodge City and was manager of Luraloc Hotel for 14 years.
She moved to Liberal in 1959, and was an escrow agent at First Federal Savings and Loan. She retired in 1969.
She was a member of St. Andrew Episcopal Church in Liberal.
She was a charter member of Soroptimist International in Dodge City and Liberal. She was also a member and a certified director of the American Contract Bridge League.
Survivors include two nephews, Charles Black, Hugoton, and Allen Black, Berkley, Calif.; two grandnephews, Tadd Black, Hugoton, and Shawn Black and wife, Tamra, San Antonio; one grandniece, Mary M. Black, San Marcos, Texas; and one great-grandnephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister and one nephew.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with the Rev. James M. Shannon presiding.
Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 8-11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

CECIL B. STEWART
ELKHART -- Cecil B. Stewart, 84, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, in Pueblo, Colo.
He was born April 1, 1916, to Burt and Edna Stewart at his family's home near Keyes, Okla.
He married Maudie Glover. She preceded him in death.
He served during World War II as an aircraft mechanic.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Vineland, Colo., and Masonic Lodge No. 17 in Pueblo.
He had been a resident of Chateau Assisted Living in Pueblo..
Survivors include two daughters, LaJean Chance and husband, Eddie, and Judi Stewart, all of Pueblo; four grandchildren, Tadd Clinkingbeard and wife, Rebecca, and Janean Chance, all of Pueblo, Troy Clinkingbeard and wife, Julie, LaJunta, Colo., and Jeff Chance and wife, Debby, Blue Springs, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Amber Chance, Kayli and Jayme Clinkingbeard, all of Pueblo, and Rick and Melissa Clinkingbeard, LaJunta; two brothers, Harold Stewart and Donald Stewart, both of Keyes; one sister, Nellie Preston, Quincy, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Wilma Anderson and husband, Jim, Aztec, N.M.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ed Stewart, Johnnie Stewart and Roy Stewart; and two sisters, Ethel Mae and Lucille.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Elkhart.
Burial will be at the Elkhart Cemetery
in Elkhart.

RICHARD NORDYKE
Richard "Dick" Nordyke, 61, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at his home in Liberal.
He was born Aug. 11, 1939, to Claude J. and Helen M. (McAtee) Nordyke in Stevens County.
He married Donna F. Hargrove Oct. 20, 1962, in Hugoton. She survives.
He graduated from Hugoton High School in 1957.
He worked as a mechanic, and auto body technician and a bulldozer operator for seven years.
He moved to Tennessee for three and a half years, where he graduated as a laboratory technician.
He moved to Liberal April 1, 1969, and was employed by Southwest Medical Center as a laboratory technician for 30 years. He retired Oct. 1, 1998.
He was a member of the Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Dickson, Tenn., and attended the Grace Baptist Temple in Liberal.
He was also a member of the American Medical Technician Association for 30 years, and of the Liberal Archery Club. He was a Boy Scouts life member.
He was a master instructor of hunter safety, which he taught for 25 years.
Other survivors include one son, Randy Nordyke, Liberal; one sister, Frances Williams, Iola; and one granddaughter, Amber Nicole Nordyke, Russellville, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, James "Tyler" Eslick Oct. 14, 2000.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Southern Baptist Church in Liberal with Jim Garcia and the Rev. Floyd Benson presiding.
Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery
in Hugoton.
Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today and from 8-11 a.m. Monday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

She was born Sept. 4, 1917, to Roy and Grace (Teeter) Gillespie in Comanche County.
She married Nelson Curtis in 1941 in Tijuana, Mexico. He died Jan. 2, 1976.
She had been a lifetime resident of Hugoton, having moved there in 1920 with her family.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Hugoton Baptist Church, the VFW Auxiliary and Bas Bleu, all in Hugoton.
Survivors include two brothers, Glenn Gillespie and wife, Laura, and Floyd Gillespie and wife, Betty, all of Hugoton; and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces, and great-great-nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Hugoton Baptist Church in Hugoton.
Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery
in Hugoton.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. today at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

MARY M. VANDYKE
HUGOTON -- Mary M. VanDyke, 101, of Hugoton, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Satanta District Hospital in Satanta.
She was born July 30, 1899, to Milton and Martha (Dunham) Hall in Webb City, Mo.
She married Harvey VanDyke Nov. 11, 1919, in Independence. He died April 6, 1956.
She had moved from Wichita to Hugoton in 1960.
She had been a resident of Satanta District Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Satanta for the past six months.
She had owned VanDyke's Fashions during the 1960s and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Senior Citizens Activity Center, both in Hugoton.
Survivors include one daughter, Audrey E. Binns, Hugoton; one grandson, Greg Binns, Hugoton; one granddaughter, Pamela B. Wilson, Hugoton; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hugoton Cemetery
in Hugoton with the Rev. Nel Holmes presiding.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

ELMER H. GOLDY
ANDERSON, Ind. -- Elmer H. Goldy, 82, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at St. John's Health System in Anderson.
He was born June 27, 1918, to John Jackson and Elisabeth (Charles) Goldy in Farmers, Ky.
He married Fannie A. Akers March 20, 1945. She survives.
He had been a resident of Anderson for the past 11 years.
He retired from the Veterans Administration in Wichita.
He was a member of East Side Church of God in Anderson, and had been an usher at the Church of God for 40 years.
He served in the Army Intelligence Service for four years during World War II.
Other survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Goldy, Anderson, Rose Dicken and husband, Raymond, New Castle, Ind., and Sherry Miller and husband, Ron, Liberal; one sister, Iona Wheeldon, New Castle; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Carey, New Castle; four grandchildren, Paul Salley, Chicago, Bill Dicken and wife, Lori, and Ruth Ann Coffey and husband, Terry, all of New Castle, and Ray Wilson of Truth and Consequences, N.M.; seven great-grandchildren, Adam Salley, Alec Salley and Andrew Salley, all of Branson, Mo., Will Dicken, Daniel Dicken and Emily Dicken, all of New Castle, and Chaz Wilson of Truth and Consequences; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Effie Carey.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Friday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home, North Chapel, in Alexandria, Ind., with the Pastor Kerry Robinson presiding.
Burial was at Summitville Cemetery
in Summitville, Ind.
