BETTY L. KELLS
GARDEN CITY -- Betty Lou Kells, 72, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Nov. 5, 1928, to Sam and Dorothy (Nelson) Davis in Ava, Mo.
She married Clifford D. Kells March 14, 1948, in Garden City. He died Nov. 17, 1987.
She grew up and attended school in Ava, graduating from Ava High School.
Shortly after high school, she moved to Garden City where she had been a resident since that time. She attended Garden City Community College.
During World War II, she worked as a telephone operator.
She and her husband owned and operated a porcelain business and a moving business. She also worked for the zoo, where she raised many zoo animals.
She managed the big pool in Garden City for two years.
She attended the Church of the Nazarene in Garden City. She taught Children's Church at Cornerstone Church in Garden City for many years.
Her hobbies included crafts, crocheting, knitting and writing poems.
Survivors include her mother; one son, Larry D. Kells, Liberal; two daughters, Cheryl Wears and Vickie Heeke, both of Garden City; one brother, Jerry Davis, Timmonsville, S.C.; one sister, Laura Krantz, Brighton, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Gary Davis.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of the Nazarene in Garden City with the Rev. Craig Coulter presiding.
Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City.

DEAN W. HILDRETH
WICHITA -- Dean W. "Pete" Hildreth, 86, father of Liberal resident Gary Hildreth, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
He was born April 20, 1914, to George Albert and Anna K. (Kiley) Hildreth in Pratt.
He married Oleta Fern Lambert April 20, 1941, in Liberal. She died Aug. 25, 1975.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Coats.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II.
He farmed in the Coats area until 1988, when he moved to Wichita.
Survivors include two sons, Gary, Liberal, and Terry, Derby; one daughter, Karen Moss, Colorado Springs; three brothers, Thad, Pratt, Cleve, Skiatook, Okla., and Everett, Alton; one sister, Stella Gilmore, Pratt; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Charles and Kenneth.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary in Pratt, with Chaplain John Havens presiding.
Burial will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery
in Pratt.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Pratt.

DORIS M. COPPLE
MEADE -- Doris M. Copple, 80, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at the Meade District Hospital in Meade.
She was born March 6, 1920, to Willis Charles and Lena Leota (Davis) Hantla in rural Meade County.
She married Joseph Jacob "Joe" Copple May 20, 1939, in Liberal. He died Dec. 7, 1999.
She was a lifelong resident of Meade.
She was a bookkeeper for Artisian Valley Ice Cream and Friesen Windmill, both of Meade.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the local ladies bridge club, all of Meade.
Survivors include one son, Jerrald L. Copple and wife, Sherrie, Broomfield, Colo.; one daughter, Diane R. Butler, Dodge City; daughter-in-law, Lynda Copple, Garden City; one brother, Archie Hantla, Boseman, Mont.; four grandchildren, Tim, Trace, and Brandon Copple and Renee Butler; and three great-grandchildren, Desiree, Heather and Jake Copple.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Richard J. Copple; one brother, W. LeRoy Hantla; and four sisters, Mabel Barnes, Bessie, Wilma and Leota.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Meade, with the Rev. Chuck Mattix presiding.
Burial will be a Graceland Cemetery
in Meade.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until noon Tuesday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.

DOROTHY ELLEN STOUT
TRIBUNE -- Dorothy Ellen Stout, 72, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.
She was born Aug. 31, 1928, to Charles and Ellen Eva (Brown) Lampe in Dodge City.
She married Merland J. Stout Feb. 13, 1947, in Cimmaron. He died Aug. 28, 1990.
She was a former resident of Manter and Dodge City. She had lived in Tribune for the past two and one half years.
She was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She and her husband owned and operated Dodge City Security. She worked in the register of deeds office in Dodge City. She was most recently employed at Gooch's Foods and she was a Green Thumb representative for the Greeley County Museum, where she wrote a weekly article for the Greeley County Republican.
She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary Post No. 1714 in Dodge City.
Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Fink and husband, Rev. Keith, Tribune; three grandchildren, Chris, Vincent and Lillie Fink; and two nephews, Terry Harris and Larry Paxton, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her foster mother, Cora Baker; one brother, Harley Lampe; two sisters, Lucille Stout and Louise Ebersole; three foster sisters, Alice Harris, Vera Paxton and Vivian Schonlou; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Ellen Fink.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Tribune United Methodist Church in Tribune, with the Rev. Dale Clare presiding.
A private family burial will follow at the Mapel Grove Cemetery
in Dodge City.
Friends may call from 9-11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Tribune United Methodist Church.

EVELYN S. ENOCH
Evelyn S. Enoch, 31, of Liberal, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

FREDRICK E. TYLER
SUBLETTE -- Fredrick Eldeen Tyler, 70, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at his home in Sublette.
He was born Sept. 2, 1930, to Ernest Everett and Barbara Fern (Bishop) Tyler in Fowler.
He married Virginia Ellen Menzie Sept. 2, 1950, in Copeland. She survives.
He had been a longtime resident of the Sublette area, except for living in central California from 1957 to 1971.
He was employed by Hoskinson Implement Company in Copeland and later by Boeing Aircraft in Atwater, Calif., for 11 years.
He had worked for the sheriff's department in Merced County, Calif., from 1962 to 1971, and was the Sublette City Marshall and rural mail carrier for Sublette for several years.
He was owner and operator of the Copeland Cycle Rinse from 1976 to 1995.
He was a member of the Sublette Southern Baptist Church in Sublette and past-member of the Kansas Peace Officer's Association.
Other survivors include three daughters, Deanna Lynne Paris and husband, Charlie, Sublette, Joni Rae Campbell and husband, John, Garden City, and Jo Ellen Hadley and husband, Ray, Dodge City; one brother, Jon C. Tyler and wife, Jacque, Yuma, Ariz.; one sister, Joyce Reynolds and husband, Jerry, Copeland; one sister-in-law, Carrie Tyler, Copeland; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ron Tyler; and one granddaughter, Jessica Hickman.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Sublette Southern Baptist Church in Sublette with the Pastor Dan Pearce presiding.
Burial will be at the Copeland Cemetery
in Copeland.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

ETHEL COEN
ELKHART -- Ethel Coen, 87, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home in Guymon, Okla.
EVELYN S. ENOCH
Evelyn S. Enoch, 31, of Liberal, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
She was born Dec. 27, 1969, to Carel A. and Charlotte (McDonald) Strange in Oklahoma City.
She married Gregory A. Enoch June 20, 1987, in Oklahoma City. He survives.
She grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Putnam West High School. She also graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1997, where she earned a degree in nursing. She was named in Who's Who and was a member of Theta Beta Kappa.
She had been pursuing a bachelor's of science degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix prior to her death.
She and her family moved to Liberal in 1997. She was employed by Southwest Medical Center as a circulating nurse in the operating room.
She was a member of the Christian Life Center in Liberal.
Other survivors include her mother and step-father, Charlotte and Don Hill, Liberal; her father; seven sons, Charles Enoch, Christopher Enoch, Kenneth Enoch, Michael Enoch, Tyler Enoch, Thomas Enoch and Zachary Enoch, all of the home; one daughter, Stephanie Enoch, of the home; one brother, Michael Shane Strange, Oklahoma City; one sister, Valerie Hill, Portland, Maine; grandparents, Jim and Betty Hill, Mustang, Okla., and Ilene Enoch, Seminole, Okla.; great-grandparents, Amos and Blanche Hill, Mustang; and two aunts, Charlene Antrim and husband, Mike, Turpin, Okla., and Melanie Pitcock and husband, Allen, Lincoln, Neb.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Christian Life Center in Liberal with the Rev. Ken Willard presiding.
Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery.
Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 8-11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday.
