HERMAN C. SNODGRASS
ULYSSES -- Herman C. Snodgrass, 94, died Monday, June 5, 2000, in Arlington, Texas.
He was born Feb. 23, 1906, to James C. and Jenni Lenora (Holmes) Snodgrass in Horace.
He married Ruth Alta Black Dec. 31, 1927. She died Aug. 5, 1990.
He attended schools in Horace and Tribune.
He was employed by the State Highway Department for many years and lived in Garden City, as well as other western Kansas towns.
He also worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a fireman for a few years before moving back to Greeley County where he opened the Snodgrass Butane Propane Company. His later years were spent in Ulysses, where he was employed by Popejoy Construction Company and Ulysses Co-op.
Survivors include one daughter, Marcia Rober and husband, Robert, Arlington; two grandsons, Gray Rober, New York City, and Todd Rober, Irving, Texas; one granddaughter, Julie Butts and her husband, Patrick, Arlington; and a great-granddaughter Ashley Butts, Arlington.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Duward Snodgrass; and one sister, Alice Bethel.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel, Ulysses, with the Rev. Bill Harrold presiding.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. at the Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

DELIA JONES
DODGE CITY -- Delia Jones, 93, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Dodge City.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Kitch Funeral Home.
VIOLET HELEN GRUBBS
HUGOTON -- Violet Helen Grubbs, 98, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at her residence in Hugoton.

WILLIAM "BILL" EARL LANDERS
CHICO, Calif. -- The Rev. William "Bill" Earl Landers, 76, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at the Chico hospital, Chico.
He was born May 19, 1924, to Roy and Mary Landers in Mocane, Okla.
He married Maxine Fry May 10, 1948. She survives.
He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Kingbury in the South Pacific.
He later attended Spartan Aeronautics School.
He received an associate of arts degree in theology from Ouchita Baptist College in Arkansas and a bachelor's degree in theology from Golden Gate Seminary in Mill Valley, Calif.
He pastored churches in Oklahoma, Arkansas and six churches in California.
He moved to Corning, Calif. in 1990 where he was the pastor at Corning Faith Baptist Church. He retired in 1998.
He enjoyed working on cars as a mechanic.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and attended Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Chico.
Other survivors include one daughter, Cynthia Mehle, Oxnard, Calif.; two sons, Dennis Landers, Chico, and Ronald Landers, Redding, Calif; one foster daughter, Karen Beok, Redwing, Minn.; two brothers, Charles Landers, Dodge City, and Roy Landers, Claremore, Okla.; one sister, Mary Ellen Sprague, Beaver, Okla.; and nine grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Saturday at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Chico.
Graveside services were held Saturday at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Corning.
Arrangements were handled by Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home, Chico.
DELIA JONES
DODGE CITY -- Delia Jones, 93, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at Dodge City Good Samaritan Center, Dodge City.
She was born July 24, 1906, to Johnson and Lizzie Jones in Tyro, Ark.
She was a longtime Liberal resident before moving to Dodge City.
She was a housekeeper and cook for many years and also had worked at the animal shelter in Liberal.
She was a member of Faith Pentecostal Church, Dodge City.
Survivors include one sister, Ester Norman, Oakland, Calif.; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Willie, Peter and J.P.; and two sisters, Minnie and Mary Alice.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Liberal Cemetery
with the Rev. Bobby Love presiding.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Friday at Kitch Funeral Home.
MYRTLE GERTRUDE HOWELL
SYRACUSE -- Myrtle Gertrude Howell, 91, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Liberal.
She was born July 9, 1908, to Charles and Lillian (Smith) Swisher.
She married Marshall Portlock. He preceded her in death. She later married Roy Howell. He also preceded her in death.
She attended school in Syracuse. She lived most of her life in Syracuse and Hamilton County. She moved to Liberal in 1990.
She and Roy operated the Aimes Coffee Shop in Syracuse for
several years before operating and owning the Uptown Cafe & Motel in Syracuse for 40 years.
She and Roy also owned and operated the Fireside Inn in Glenwood Springs, Colo. for several years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Syracuse. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge.
She owned racing horses and racing dogs. She was also involved in cooking and gardening.
Survivors include one son, Marvin Portlock and wife, Maxine, Syracuse; two daughters, Delores Lindsey and husband, Eugene, Colorado Springs, Colo., Dorothy Sargent and husband, Bob, Liberal; two brothers, Al Swisher, Guymon, Okla., and Everett Swisher, Syracuse; two sisters, LaVerna Browning, Syracuse, and Margaret Clark, Holly, Colo.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. MDT Saturday at the Syracuse Cemetery, Syracuse, with the Rev. Gene Slack presiding.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. MDT tonight, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, and from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse.

VIOLET H. GRUBBS
HUGOTON -- Violet H. Grubbs, 98, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at her residence in Hugoton.
She was born Feb. 25, 1902, to Abraham and Amanda (Schlabach) Fliginger in Sterling.
She married Ralph Grubbs Feb. 23, 1921, in Hugoton. He died Dec. 12, 1986.
She was a resident of Hugoton for the past 84 years.
She attended Bethel Friends Church, Hugoton.
Survivors include two sons, Norman D. Grubbs and wife, Mary Ellen, Ulysses, and Richard L. Grubbs and wife, Estie, Hugoton; one brother, Pleman D. Fliginger and wife, Valeda, Plevna; seven grandchildren, Connie Haun, Randy Grubbs, Linda Young, Pam Lewis, Debbie Munson, Luke Grubbs and Joshua Grubbs; 10 great-grandchildren, Brandi Jo Barton, Nick Young, Jenny Powers, Tisha Carroll, Julie Lewis, Jeff Munson, Amanda Munson, Heather Dumcum, Jed Jones and Kaleb Grubbs; 10 great-great-grandchildren, Kourtnee Barton, Dezara Barton, Colby Hagerman, Peighton Powers, Davin Powers, Brooks Carroll, River Dean Carroll, Oryan Munson, Braydon Munson and A.J. Gibbons.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Francis E. Grubbs; one sister, Mildred Smith; and two grandchildren, Rusty Grubbs and Donna Jones.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bethel Friends Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Eric Mason presiding. Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery, Hugoton.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. tonight at the Kitch Funeral Home.

WILLIS M. BAGSHAW
Willis M. Bagshaw, 88, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal after a short illness.
He was born May 9, 1912, to Samuel and Rosa (Keller) Bagshaw in Knowles, Okla.
He married Ruby Maphet in May 1935, in Wichita. She died in November 1942. He married Melba C. Carnes Sept. 1, 1944, in Liberal. She survives.
He was educated at the Excelsior School in Beaver County, Okla. He had been a Liberal resident since 1944.
He was a farmer in Beaver, Okla., and also in Las Animas, Colo. In the 1940s and '50s, he was the owner and operator of Liberal Ice Delivery Service. He then worked with Western Power and Electric as an operating engineer until his retirement in 1977.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Liberal, and the 20th Century Sunday school class. He was a former member of the Liberal Noon Lions Club.
Other survivors include two sons, Max Bagshaw, Houston, and Ray Bagshaw, Littleton, Colo.; two daughters, Lynne Goodman, Jasper, Ind., and Joyce Pauls, Belleville; one brother, Raymond Bagshaw, Wichita; one sister, Velda Mercer, Wichita; one sister-in-law, Lucile Grandstaff, Liberal; 13 grandchildren, Catherine Edmonston, Topeka,
Mark Pauls, Omaha, Neb., Rick Pauls, Glasco, Dennis Pauls, Ponca City, Okla., Deidre Long, Ft. Worth, Texas, Janis Lynne Goodman, Downs Grove, Ill., Randall Goodman, Victor, N.Y., Rod Goodman, Novi, Mich., Jeff Bagshaw, Denver, and Greg Bagshaw, Littleton; several nieces and nephews including niece, Verda Hoffman, Liberal; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Oliver, Lowell, Everette, Richard and Orville; and three sisters, Ida Gander, Mabel Mortimer and Josie Bagshaw.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2000, at the First United Methodist Church, Liberal, with the Rev. Philip Shull presiding with assistance from the Rev. Jerry Odle and Judy Barnes. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery, Liberal.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Kitch Funeral Home.
