DOROTHY J. COKELEY
Dorothy J. Cokeley, 72, Liberal, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born March 4, 1928, to Arthur Lee and Velma (Pywell) McClellan in Zurich.
She married Clarence "Nut" Cokeley Aug. 19, 1949, in Palco. He survives.
She graduated from high school in Palco and received her associate of arts degree from Fort Hays College in Hays.
She taught school several years in the Palco community. She moved to Liberal in 1951 and taught school at McKinley and McDermott schools and later was a teachers aide at Southlawn, Lincoln and Washington schools. She retired in 1984.
She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women Circle No. 2, 20th Century Sunday School Class and Liberal PTA.
She served many years on the Seward County Election Board and at Baker Arts Foundation.
She helped many ill and elderly people of the community. Each year she returned to the family farm to assist with the harvest.
Other survivors include two sons, Will Cokeley and wife, Beth, DeSoto, and Mark Cokeley and wife, Luanna, Liberal; one brother, Bob McClellan and wife, JoEva, Palco; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Phil Shull presiding.
Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Liberal.
Friends may call from 1-8 p.m Friday and 8-11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Mortuary.

LLOYD W. TOWNS
Lloyd W. Towns, 74, Liberal, formerly of Tyrone, Okla., died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Liberal Good Samaritan Center in Liberal.
He was born Feb. 28, 1926, to Harry W. and Sadie (Ford) Towns in Isabel.
He married Barbara Ryan March 16, 1947, in Syracuse.
He later married Christine Lawellin Dec. 23, 1980, in Beaver, Okla. She died June 30, 1991.
He was a longtime Tyrone resident before he moved to Liberal.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired truck driver for Nichols Fluid.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lane Day Post No. 3166 of Liberal.
Survivors include one son, David Towns and wife, Colleen, Liberal; two daughters, Sherry Olney and husband, Jim, Pelion, S.C., and Carla Lanford and husband, Stan, Leesville, S.C.; two half-brothers, Dale Towns and Delmar Towns, both of Garden City; one half-sister, Christy Barnett, Norman, Okla.; step-mother, Alice Jones, Lamar, Colo.; four grandchildren, Quinton Kemph, Plano, Texas, Melissa Hightower, Misty Towns and Hailey Towns, all of Liberal; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Opal.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kitch Funeral Home Chapel in Liberal, with the Rev. Keith Bryant presiding.
Burial will be at the Tyrone Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Kitch Funeral Home in Liberal.
Memorials are suggested to Liberal Good Samaritan Center, in care of the funeral home.
LEE A. LITZENBERGER
HARPER -- Lee A. Litzenberger, 76, died Friday, March 31, 2000, in Harper.
He was born Nov. 10, 1923, to Alex and Elizabeth (Wilhelm) Litzenberger at LaCrosse.
He married Isabelle M. Peach April 1, 1947, in Wichita. She died Feb. 28, 1996.
He married Moette (Brooks) Smith Dec. 14, 1996 in Argonia. She survives.
He was a retired insurance agent.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Argonia, and Anthony Golf Club.
Other survivors include a son, Brian Litzenberger, Garden City, a daughter, Jan Kindel, Carthage, Mo.; two sisters, Leila Snyder, Albert, and Lois Stull, Hutchinson; four grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Argonia, with the Rev. Daryl Bahn presiding.
Burial will be at the Harper Cemetery.

AUDINE GRAY
WINFIELD -- Audine Gray, 93, Winfield, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000.
Survivors include two Liberal residents, daughters Betty Jo Callahan and Rosemary Floyd.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Burial was at the Maple City Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to a memorial established in Mrs. Gray's name for Hospice, Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
WAYNE CLODFELTER
LIBERAL -- Wayne W. Clodfelter, 88, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born August 13, 1911, to I.R. and Katie E. (Martin) Clodfelter in Belle Plaine.
He married Evalyn D. Smith Jan. 23, 1932, in Beaver, Okla. She died Oct. 24, 1994.
He lived in Liberal all his life and was a graduate of Liberal High School. He farmed in the area until he retired in 1983 and then moved to town in 1990.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Building Committee of First Baptist Church. He was also a member of Progressive Grange.
Survivors include one son, Ronald Wayne Clodfelter and wife, Morena, Liberal; one daughter, Glenna Myrick and husband, Gene, Liberal; two brothers, Cline Clodfelter, Liberal, and J.R. Clodfelter, Tuscon, Ariz.; one sister, Katy Lu Brant, Haysville; six grandchildren, Robert Clodfelter, Dumas, Texas, Rodney Clodfelter, Kansas City, Steve Myrick, Lawrence, Jeff Myrick, Baldwin, Tim Myrick, Powell, Tenn; and Julie Michel, Colorado Springs, Colo; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, Reva Casebeer and Bonita Leaming, and an infant brother, Ralph.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, at First Baptist Church in Liberal, with the Rev. David Bagwell presiding.
Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery

BARBARA DUFIELD
PLAINS -- Barbara Dufield, 61, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Ft. Smith, Ark.
She was born July 22, 1938, in Goodland to John Thomas and Meta Schwanbeck Matheson. She graduated from Goodland High School with the class of 1956. She was a homemaker and a long time resident of Plains.
She married Jack M. Dufield Feb. 20, 1960, in Plains. He survives.
She was a member of United Methodist Church, a 35-year member of Laureate Beta Eta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Kimball Club, Pleasant Home Extention Unit, Unit ed Methodist Women, and a 4-H Club volunteer, all of Plains.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Plains United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vernon Maelzer presiding.
Burial will be at Plains Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade.

IRMA LOWRY
HOOKER -- Irma Lowry, 87, Hooker, died April 4, 2000, at her home in Hooker.
Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker.
OPAL PAINTER
MEADE -- Opal Irene Painter, 87, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Meade District Hospital in Meade.
She was born Oct. 29, 1912 to W.J. and Maude (Holbert) Hoskins.
She married Fred John Painter in Meade. He died July 7, 1990.
She was a former Meade County Treasurer serving from 1945-1949 and was a farmer and homemaker.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Meade, the Sunny Dale Extension Unit of Meade County, and the Englewood Hobby Club of Englewood.
Survivors include one sister, Helen Loutham, Borger, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Meade with the Rev. Harry Fink presiding.
Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery
in Meade.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary.
