Venita June Pennington-Burge, 74, of Atchison, passed away Sunday December 21, 2008 at the Atchison Medicalodge.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the First Baptist Church, with Pastor Steve Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will follow in the Sumner Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, December 26, 2008 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. June was born October 3, 1934 in Willow Springs, MO, the daughter of James and Clara Edna Mae (Bowen) Goodman. She was a graduate of Atchison High School. June was a housewife and homemaker; she also worked at Atchison Leather products, the mop factory and the Atchison Hospital. She was an active member of the First Baptist church in Atchison, a youth group leader and a Girl Scout leader. June enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning and spending time with her family.

June was married to Donald L. Burge Sr. in 1951 in Troy, KS they were later divorced in 1979. She later married Howard G. Pennington. He preceded her in death in1989. Survivors include a daughter Becky and Ken Jones, Atchison, KS, four sons; Donald and Marilyn Burge Jr., Perry, KS, Arthur Wayne and Mary Lou Burge Sr., Atchison, KS, Richard Dean and Victoria Burge Sr. Atchison, KS, Wesley Alan Burge, Atchison, KS, sixteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

Her parents, a son Kurtiss Dale Burge, two brothers and two sisters all preceded her in death.

John R. Seetin, 59, of Rushville, MO, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Rushville, MO.

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the Lewis & Clark Baptist Church on South Old Highway, next to the Pink Barn, Rushville, MO. Family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lewis & Clark Baptist Church, Atchison Hospital Auxiliary, or to the funeral expenses. Online condolences to the family may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.

John was born on January 6, 1949 in Kansas City, KS, the son of Durel Reeve and Mary Jane (Harry) Seetin. John attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School, Atchison High School and had received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Benedictine College in Business Administration. John served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. John was a general contractor in the Atchison, KS area. He had been a Karate instructor at the Atchison YMCA for 20 years and at the age of 44, John played for the Benedictine College Ravens Football team.

John wrote and believed his ‘Life’s Personal Mission’ was to ‘Live unrestricted – Happily give from what I have – Die worn out.’

Survivors include his children, Johni G. Mak of Knopp, Germany, Sherriene Oliva of Bonner Springs, KS, and Jason Seetin of South Daytona Beach, FL; three grandchildren; his best friend and companion, Linda Jones, of Rushville, MO; a brother, Rev. Lee Seetin; one sister, Mildred Seetin-Arroya.

David Eugene Turpin, 56, of Rushville, MO passed away Saturday, December 20, 2008 at his home.

Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Turpin has been cremated. Private family burial will be at a later date in the Sugar Creek Cemetery. Memorial contributions in honor of Mr. Turpin are suggested to the Children's Education Fund and may be left in care of the funeral home. David was born December 8, 1952 in Atchison, KS the son of Gerald and Donna (Church) Turpin. He graduated from DeKalb High School in 1971 and was in the Army Reserves for six years. He had worked at Lansing Correctional Facility as a Correction Officer for over 20 years. Mr. Turpin enjoyed computers and collecting guns. His passion for toy trains led him to join the Northeast Kansas Railroaders organization.

David is survived by his parents, Atchison, ex-wife; Shoney Garcia, Leavenworth, children; David Jr., DeeAnn, and Vanessa Turpin, all of Leavenworth, sisters; Marla (Tim) Housh, Atchison, Rhonda Turpin, Atchison, and Lisa Boldridge, Topeka, several nieces and nephews and a great nephew.

A brother, Howard Turpin, preceded him in death.

Diana S. Steele, 62 years of age, of Atchison, KS died Tuesday, December 09, 2008 at the Atchison Senior Village.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, December 13th, 2008 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Chaplain Jack Albright officiating. The body will be cremated following the services and private family burial will be at a later date in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm on Friday, Dec. 12th, 2008 at the Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Achievement Services Northeast Kansas and may be left in care of the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Diana was born on August 16, 1946 in Horton, KS, the loving handicapped daughter of William Ralph and Lillian Mae (Nickels) Steele. She is survived by four sisters; Anita Woodside, Portland, OR, Merry Charlsen, Atchison, KS, Wilma Perrin, Independence, MO, and Laura Morrow, Portland, OR. Her parents, and one sister; Emily Park preceded her in death.

Della M. Antes, 94, Atchison, formerly of Effingham, KS passed away Monday December 8, 2008 at the Atchison Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday, December 13, 2008 at St. Ann’s Parish Center in Effingham, KS, with Fr. Benjamin Tremmel, OSB as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Benedict’s Cemetery, Bendena, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:30PM to 8:30PM Friday, December 12, 2008 at St. Ann’s Parish Center, with Parish Rosary starting at 6:30PM. Memorial Contributions are suggested to St. Ann’s or Effingham Senior Center and maybe left in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton funeral home. Della May (Longberg) Antes, the daughter of Clinton A. and Lena B. (Hanna) Longberg was born October 20th, 1914 near Goff, KS. She graduated from Soldier High School and worked several years before marriage by providing in-home healthcare and teaching needs to area families near the Holton and Soldier communities. Della worked as a farm wife and mother along side of her husband in raising their family. She was a member of the Farmington Unit, the Nortonville St. Joseph’s Alter Society, and the St. Ann’s Church congregation in Effingham. Della enjoyed sewing, flowers, vegetable gardening, raising her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Della was married to John E. Antes on August 17, 1939 in Holton, KS. He preceded her in death on May 22nd, 1994. She was preceded in death by two daughters Helen Kempin of Atchison, on Nov 16, 1992, and Teresa Antes on August 23, 1971, a great-grand-daughter, Kylie Elizabeth Antes on February 1, 2008, her parents, four brothers and a sister.

Survivors include seven sons; Robert and Sharon Antes, Grain Valley, MO, Paul Antes, Overland Park, KS, Carl and Shirley Antes, Emporia, KS, Bernard and Deborah Antes, McLouth, KS, Raymond and LeeAnn Antes, Olathe, KS, Leroy and Sheila Antes, Atchison, KS, Leo and Sharon Antes, Olathe, KS, two daughters; Katherine and Bob McLoughlin, Lenexa, KS, Ann and David Boles, Madison, KS, a son-in-law, Don Kempin, Atchison, KS, a brother Richard (Ben), Wichita, two sisters, Gladys Mary Renyer, Auburn, KS and Mildred Bauman, Seneca, KS, twenty-nine grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and two expected great grandchildren in 2009.

Veronica F. Johns, 62, Atchison, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2008 at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Gerard Senecal, OSB, as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM on Monday, December 8, 2008 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home followed by a rosary. Veronica was born June 29, 1946 to the late Clifford and Sophie (Federowicz) Eccles in Providence, RI. She was a seamstress for a number of years in Oceanside, CA and had most recently worked at Golden Star. Veronica was married to Gregory Johns who preceded her in death. She enjoyed babysitting her great-great nephews, Tucker and Trevor.

Survivors include 3 sisters; Elizabeth (Betty) Enzbrenner, Topeka, KS, Ruth DeAngelo, East Haven, CT, Maureen Eccles, Vista, CA, a brother; Richard Eccles, Vista, CA, 4 nieces, 4 nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews and 4 great-great nieces and nephews.

Dennis Warren Pike, of Lancaster, KS, died Wednesday, November 26, 2008 in Kansas City, Kansas.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 30th, 2008 at the Becker Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Rev. Eduardo Bousson, Pastor of the United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM on Saturday, November 29th, 2008 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Mr. Pike was born on January 19th, 1951 in Atchison, KS, the son of Warren and Merle Maxine (Molden) Pike. Following the death of his mother, Dennis was adopted by his step mother, Shirley Ann (Benshoof) Pike. He attended grade school in Farmington, Kansas and graduated from Atchison County Community High School, Effingham, KS, in 1969. Mr. Pike was a United States Air Force veteran. He received his associate degree in marketing and business. Dennis worked as a partner and vice president of sales for the Surface Finishing Company, Kansas City, Kansas. He was a member of the Atchison United Methodist Church, the Lake Perry Golf Club, a member of the Southwest Regional Central Division Ski Patrol, and was a Southwest Regional Ski School Instructor/Advisor. Mr. Pike was a past president of Kerhonkson Accord First Aid Squad, a past vice-president of Accord Fire District, Rochester, Co.#2, and a former Accord Fire District Commissioner. He was passionate about his family and friends and enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, golfing, boating, and motorcycle riding.

Dennis was married to LeFern “Lea” Jacobs on September 1, 1979. Mrs. Pike survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons; Bryon D. & (Leah) Pike, Creston, CO., Terry Steven “Turtle” Craig, Birmingham, MO., two daughters; Deni Marie Gardner, Latham, NY., and Donette Michelle Stukes, Birmingham, MO., his parents; Warren and Shirley Pike, Lancaster, KS., a sister; Carole Wood, Liberty, MO., and five grandchildren; Danny Warren Stukes, Thomas Cody Stukes, and Andrea R. Stukes, Cairn B. Pike, and Olivia LeAnn Gardner, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. His birth mother, one brother, and one sister, preceded him in death.
