HENRY SCHAEFFER
LIBERAL -- Henry Schaeffer, 94, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at the Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born Jan. 29, 1905, to Carl and Anna Marie (Eckert) Schaeffer in Niedermunjau, Russia.
He married Elfreda Miller April 24, 1924, in Barton County. She died April 27, 1993.
He came to America in 1910, and lived in Chicago for one year before moving to Barton County. He moved to Crook, Colo. in 1930 and returned to Barton County in 1945. He moved to Liberal in 1986.
He was a farmer. He worked as a carpenter and plasterer in construction.
He was a member of the Grace Evangical Lutheran Church in Liberal and the Concordia Lutheran Church in Hoisington.
Survivors include three sons, Harold C. Schaeffer and wife, Willa Jean, Othello, Wash., Marvin L. Schaeffer and wife, Dorlene, Loveland, Colo., and Henry Schaeffer Jr. and wife, Mary, Shelton, Wash.; two daughters, Alice M. Keil and husband, Leon, Independence, Mo., and Darlene Mein and husband, Bill, Liberal; one brother, Carl Schaeffer, Fort Morgan, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, Carla Jean Hampton, James Schaeffer, Ivan Schaeffer, Karen Sturges, Rita Phillips, George Keil, Marcie Mein, Megan Mein, Amanda Schaeffer and Jennifer Jones; 10 great-grandchildren and four step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
Graveside funeral services will be a 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hoisington Cemetery
in Hoisington, with the Rev. Gary Dassow presiding.
Friends may call Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington until 9 p.m. today.

CLEO C. CUMMINGS
SUBLETTE -- Cleo Carlene Cummings, 81, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at her home in Sublette.
She was born Sept. 15, 1918, in Maude, Okla.
She married Jess Richard Cummings Oct. 28, 1944, in Healton, Okla. He survives.
She lived in Tulsa, Okla. for 40 years before moving to Sublette in August of 1984. She graduated from the Classen High School in Oklahoma City.
She was named Little Miss Texas earlier in her life. She was a member of the Oakridge Baptist Church in Tulsa. She was a homemaker and worked as the manager of the Ladies Ready to Wear store in Ardmore, Okla.
Other survivors include one daughter, Jeannie Orth and husband, Bob, Sublette; two grandchildren, Michelle Juel, Sublette, and Richard Orth and wife, Amy, Sublette; five great-grandchildren, Jared Juel, Megan Orth, Remington Orth, Rhett Orth and Jess Orth.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Sublette Southern Baptist Church in Sublette, with the Rev. Dan Pearce presiding. Burial will follow at the Haskell County Cemetery
in Sublette.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.
IVAN DICKEY
ULYSSES -- Ivan Dickey, 67, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Nov. 25, 1932, to Roy and Elva (Shetler) Dickey in Hemingford, Neb.
He married Jean Colburn Feb. 1, 1954, in Alliance, Neb. She survives.
He had been involved in the fertilizer business and was the owner/operator of Dickey Trucking in Ulysses.
Other survivors include five daughters, Linda Kinnison, and husband, Jim, Yuma, Colo., Barbara Wacker and husband, Ed, Fort Morgan, Colo., Debbie Ashida and husband, Bruce, Kingman, Colleen Dahle and husband, Bill, Ulysses, and Colette Rheinheimer and husband, Lonnie, Ulysses; one son, Duane Dickey and wife, Tammy, Ulysses; one brother, Ivor Dickey, Pueblo, Colo.; mother-in-law, Ann Colburn, Garland, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Brian, Amy and Lori Kinnison, Roger and Robin Dickey, Rita and Rhonda Dunker, Sara and Traci Ashida and Monica Dahle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Cody Dahle.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses, with the Rev. Delbert Whaley presiding. A private family burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery
in Ulysses.
Friends may call at the Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses until 8 p.m. today.

ALINE POWELL
HUGOTON -- Aline Powell, 87, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at the Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.
She was born Aug. 31, 1912, to Christopher Columbus and Mary Louisa (Hurt) Lewellen in Coleman County, Texas.
She married Ralph O. Powell Aug. 12, 1933, in Perry, Okla. He died July 15, 1994.
She moved to Hugoton 51 years ago from Enid, Okla.
She was a homemaker and a certified teacher of porcelain art. She was an international porcelain artist.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, both in Hugoton. She had founded and was a member of the Panhandle China Palettes and a recreational ceramic program, both in Hugoton. She was a member of Teacher's Inc.
Survivors include two daughters, Jill Schechter, Hugoton, and Frankie Jean Stringer, Bay Town, Texas; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 10 brothers, one sister and one grandson.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Paul's Memorial Chapel in Hugoton, with the Rev. Max Johnson presiding. Burial will follow at the Hugoton Cemetery
in Hugoton.
The family suggests memorials to the United Methodist Church Building Fund or the First Christian Church, both of Hugoton.
Funeral services are under the direction of Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.
MARY OLETIA CAMPBELL
HUGOTON -- Mary Oletia Campbell, 73, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at the Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.
She was born Dec. 24, 1926, to Edward T. and Mary O. (Turbeville) Riggs in Locust Bayou, Ark.
She married John Monroe Campbell Oct. 1, 1945, in Liberal. He died Dec. 1, 1981.
She moved to Hugoton in 1945 from San Antonio, Texas.
She was a housewife. She worked as a nurse at the Hugoton Hospital, a waitress at the Daylight Donut Shop and at the TLC Fitness Center, all in Hugoton.
She was a member of the Hugoton Baptist Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include three sons, Ed Campbell, Hooker, Okla., Bill Campbell, Liberal, and Steve Campbell, Hugoton; one daughter, Kristi Kuehn, Moscow; three sisters, Kathleen Erck, Monett, Ark., Ima Jean Gerrond, Hugoton, and Bernice Cook, Smackover, Ark.; her stepmother, Helen Nash, Norphlet, Ark.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hugoton Baptist Church in Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding. Burial will follow at the Hugoton Cemetery
in Hugoton.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral services are under the direction of Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.
ETHEL KIDDOO
MESA, Ariz. -- Ethel Kiddoo, 88, a former Kismet resident, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in Mesa.
She was born July 30, 1911, to John H. and Erma (Barnes) Schaller in Waterville, Ohio.
She married Alva R. Kiddoo April 21, 1933. He survives.
She visited relatives in Kismet in 1931 and became a resident after her marriage in 1933. She and her husband moved to Arizona in 1987 from Kismet. She was living in Apache, Ariz. at the time of her death.
She was a homemaker. She graduated from high school in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended business college in Toledo, Ohio.
She was a member of the Liberal Chapter No. 104, Order of the Eastern Star.
Other survivors include two sons, Gordon Kiddoo and wife, Diane, Dallas, and Charles Norman Kiddoo and wife, Winnie, Henderson, Nev.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Kitch Funeral Home Chapel in Liberal, with the Rev. Walter Brant presiding. Burial will follow at the Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.
Friends may call at Kitch Funeral Home from 4 until 9 p.m. Wednesday. The family will receive visitors from 7 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorials be to the National Arthritis Foundation in care of Kitch Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd St., Liberal, KS 67901.
VIOLA ANNA BAUGH
Johnson -- Viola Anna Baugh, 93, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at the Stanton County Long Term Care in Johnson.
She was born Aug. 16, 1906, to Joseph and Marie (Wurm) Hirsh in Rice County.
She married Jay B. Baugh May 28, 1927, in Larned. He died Jan. 29, 1973.
She owned and operated Viola's Laundry and was co-owner of Johnson Pioneer.
She was a member of the Helluo Liborum Club, the Mother's and Jolly Dozen Club and the BPW organization.
Survivors include two daughters, Judith Raney and husband, Charles, Sharon Springs, and Janet Martin and husband, Bob, Johnson; two stepsons, Jay Gordon Baugh, Okmulgee, Okla. and Marion A. Baugh and wife, Dorothy, Springfield, Mo.; five sisters, Leona Werner, Ellinwood, Delora Gall, Dodge City, Magdalene Rief, Claflin, Lela Blakely, Tuskahoma, Okla., and Mary Jane Gibson, Wichita; 20 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, one great-grandson, two sisters and four brothers.
Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Stanton County Cemetery
in Johnson, with the Rev. Glenn Fogo presiding. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 9 until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
